Rembering the good times
Thursday, May 31st, 2007Rosie O’Donnell, perhaps trying to reassure herself and others that there were some happy moments during her time on The View, posted an entry on her blog entitled “My Favorite View Segment.” The segment, shown below courtesy of YouTube, was where she surprised a 12-year-old girl with Cystic Fibrosis with a visit from the cast of Rent. It is a very touching moment and I would encourage you to watch if you didn’t see it the first time that it aired in December.
May 31 Recap: Whoopi’s back and Debra Messing
Thursday, May 31st, 2007
Whoopi Goldberg was back as guest host, this time taking the helm as moderator. They started the hot topics segment talking about Yankees player Alex Rodriguez being spotted with a blonde woman who is not his wife going out at night to bars. Barbara Walters wonders if his behavior is hurting the team. Both Elisabeth and Whoopi wondered what if it is just a friend and everyone is speculating that there is something more. Elisabeth said that as a professional athlete he should not be putting himself in a position to be photographed with another woman like this. She also said it really bothered her that Alex and the “other woman” had matching jeans on.
Paris Hilton is going to jail next week. Should she be in the general population? Joy joked, “No, she should be alone with her thought.” Barbara says that she has been to lots of prisons in the past and maybe Paris needs to be in with the general population so she can get the full experience and maybe learn something. Elisabeth thinks she should be with the general population because Paris claims that she wants to be treated like everyone else. Whoopi said that she had a chance to avoid all this but snubbed her nose at the court order not to drive.
Lindsay Lohan was supposed to begin work on a new movie, but the production company has agreed to halt production until she gets out of rehab. Barbara questioned whether they should have made an example of her and not done that. Whoopi said that they should have said that they will let her come back only if they are sure she could handle the job.

They Knew Something was Brewing
Thursday, May 31st, 2007According to People magazine, the guests on The View on the Wednesday of the big fight between Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Rosie O’Donnell were warned ahead of time that it could get “intense” that day during the hot topics.
The guests were all watching the segment in the green room and one of the guests, Maksim Chmerkovskiy of Dancing with the Stars, said that it was “uncomfortable” and “a little embarrassing” to watch and was like seeing relatives fighting. According to Chmerkovskiy, Alicia Silverstone was really nervous about being the first guest following the argument.
In response to the report, Rosie said on her blog that “feelings were raw/there were warning signs.”
For the complete story, you can read the article here.
What do you think? Did the staff just sense that a big blow-up was coming or was the argument set-up ahead of time by the producers, perhaps by telling Elisabeth not to back down from Rosie?

May 30th Recap: Making Women Rich
Wednesday, May 30th, 2007
Suze Orman appeared as a guest host on this special episode about women and money. She said that it is important to know how much money other people make, even though many people think it is rude to ask. She said that until you know how much other people make, you don’t know if you are getting paid what you should be. She said that it is important to remember that “you aren’t what you make.” Joy Behar said that three things that she will never talk about are age, weight, and salary. Barbara Walters said that it is rude to talk about salaries and would not want to tell anyone else her salary. She said that she does not even know how much money Joy and Elisabeth make. Elisabeth said it’s “not that impressive.”
Suze said that it is our fault as women that we don’t make as much as men, because we accept less. Women should not be afraid to negotiate their salaries and ask for raises and should not feel guilty for asking.
Suze also said that women should have separate accounts from their husbands and each couple should also have a joint account for bills. Elisabeth said that she has a joint account with Tim and doesn’t feel like she needs a back-up plan. Suze said that she is sure that Elisabeth is in love and happy, but she needs to be prepared in case something happens. Suze said that having our own accounts makes women feel like adults and women should be given money from their husbands if they work at home and raise the children. She said that it is not an allowance, but rather what women are owed for taking care of the house and children.

The View is Cookin’
Wednesday, May 30th, 2007Last week, The View had an entire episode all about cooking for the summer, which included recipes for drinks, salads, grilling, and desserts. Although I tried to incude as much detail in my recap as was presented, if you actually want to try to make one of the concoctions, you should check out the complete recipes at The View website.

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007Much like the earlier attempts to get Rosie O’Donnell fired, there is now an online movement to get Elisabeth Hasselbeck removed from the The View. The website Fire Elisabeth Hasselbeck asserts that Elisabeth should be fired because of “her blind defense of this administration” and her use of The View “as a platform to perpetuate inaccuracies about the Iraq War.”
Although there are plenty of people who dislike Elisabeth, wouldn’t her departure effectively grind the show to a screeching halt? Could you imagine a show with only Joy Behar and Barbara Walters? Nonetheless, for those of you interested, visit Fire Elisabeth Hasselbeck to sign the petition.

May 29th Recap: Jimmy Fallon gives Elisabeth a Sharpie
Tuesday, May 29th, 2007
Whoopi Goldberg sat in as guest host. For a recap of what the hosts said today about Rosie’s departure, check out my previous entry.
Lisa Ling was married over the weekend to a doctor. For her birthday, Elisabeth Hasselbeck painted in Central Park with Grace and Tim.
Lindsay Lohan was arrested for DUI and Joy Behar joked that she was so drunk that she was wearing underwear. Elisabeth wondered at what point do the clubs take responsibility for using her to promote themselves when she is underage. Whoopi asked, “Where are the adults?” She suggested that maybe the people making the films should tell her that she can’t be in their films if she acting that way.
There is a new documentary about Princess Diana which aims to exonerate the paparazzi. Whoopi said that you cannot exonerate the paparazzi where they everywhere. Joy said that Diana also courted the press when she was alive. Whoopi said the paparazzi shouldn’t be following people in their car with their children trying to get away.

May 28th Recap: The last day of Rosie
Monday, May 28th, 2007
Today’s episode was new, but previously recorded two weeks ago. As a result, Rosie O’Donnell appeared in this episode, which will be her last new episode of The View. There was a “previously recorded” icon in the corner for most of the day, so all the viewers would understand that there had not been some miraculous reunion.
They celebrated Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s 30th birthday. They showed photos of each of the hosts at age 30. For her gift, Rosie told Elisabeth that she and her family could have Rosie’s house in Miami to themselves for a week. I doubt that the offer is still valid after the fight and I doubt that Elisabeth would take her up that offer anyway.

Rosie’s first video blog since announcing her departure
Sunday, May 27th, 2007Rosie O’Donnell has posted her first Jahero video blog since her announcement that she will not return to The View. Absent was Janette, the “Ja,” of Jahero, because she is in the “naughty corner” after drawing a mustache on a magazine cut-out of Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Rosie said that it was a frustrating year for Janette, who did a “spur of the moment thing” and that she will be back on the blog soon, after a “time out.”
Rosie said that it is funny that the gossip columnists said that she trashed the dressing room. She joked that she is too lazy to do something like that.
Regarding Elisabeth:
I never tried harder to be friends with anyone. We never ended up anywhere close.
She called and Kelli talked to her for a really long time.
I haven’t spoken to her. I probably never will.
On her time at The View:
I was like the foster kid for a year.
We considered adoption, but I didn’t really fit into the family.
When I saw the split screen, I knew it was over.

Rosie discusses photo defacing and talking to Elisabeth
Saturday, May 26th, 2007On her blog today, in response to several questions on the topic, Rosie O’Donnell confirmed the rumors that her friend and writer Janette Barber drew a mustache on a photo of Elisabeth Hasselbeck at ABC studio. She said it was only one photo that was defaced.
one picture
which i think showed great restraint
she did
but only one
and heyi love janette

Rosie also revealed that she still has not spoken with Elisabeth Hasselbeck since the argument, but did a “small e-mail thing.” Rosie added, in response to a question about why she left early:

It’s Official: Rosie will not return to The View
Friday, May 25th, 2007ABC made the official announcement today that Rosie O’Donnell will not be returning to The View.
From Brian Frons, the president of Disney-ABC’s Daytime Television Group:
We had hoped that Rosie would be with us until the end of her contract three weeks from now, but Rosie has informed us that she would like an early leave. Therefore, we part ways, thank her for her tremendous contribution to ‘The View’ and wish her well.
From Barbara Walters:
I brought Rosie to the show. Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at ‘The View.’ I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change.
From Rosie:
I’m extremely grateful. It’s been an amazing year and I love all three women.
My analysis:
Very disappointed, but not surprised. She made it very clear on her blog that she had no intention of going back.
