The View September 28th Recap: Jason Lee, Diane Sawyer, and Ashley Qualls

Friday, September 28th, 2007

diane-sawyer.jpgThe first topic on The View today was why children aren’t afraid of their parents anymore. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that now with cell phone and texting, people don’t have to go through the parent to talk to the child on the phone. They all expressed how they could not talk back to their parents. Whoopi Goldberg demonstrated “the look” that her mom had that prevented wrong-doing. Sherri Shepherd said that her mom would clench up her two front teeth and call her by her full name and she knew to get inline. Joy Behar joked that parents today need their kids for tech support so they aren’t as strict.

Whoopi said that spanking a child “is sometimes okay.” Joy said that she had the fight over corporal punishment with Star Jones for ten years. Sherri said that sometimes kids need to have a fear of you like if he is running into the street. Elisabeth said that the hand hurts a lot less than getting hurt by the car and the kid will remember it. Whoopi clarified that she was not talking about beating a child, but spanking them.

Joy wants to know whatever happened to good old-fashioned guilt. She said it worked for her and Elisabeth said that it did for her, too. Elisabeth said that Grace hasn’t done anything for her to have to consider whether to give her a little pinch or something. Joy said, “Gracie? Don’t you dare!” Elisabeth said that what is difficult for parents is to remove themselves from their anger when they discipline their child.

Sherri said that she spanks her son, Jeffrey. She was going to spank him when they were out to a store when a woman came up and told Sherri how great she is on The View. She said that Jeffrey got lucky.

The View September 27th Recap: All Hot Topics

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

the-view-cast-photo-season-11.jpg

Due to the last-minute cancellation by Barack Obama, today’s episode of The View was all hot topics. They said that Barack is the deciding vote on a crime bill in the Senate and he had to go to Washington, DC to vote.

The first topic up was last night’s Democratic debate. Barbara Walters said that the other candidates are all ganging up on Hillary Clinton. She said that the four leading candidates said that they did not know if all the troops could be out of Iraq by 2013.

During the debate, Hillary Clinton answered a question saying that it should not be American policy to torture, even if there is a man who knows where a bomb is that is going to go off in three days. The moderator then revealed that Bill Clinton answered the opposite last year. Hillary said “He is not standing here right now.” Sherri said that she loves that Hillary is unflappable.

Rosie O’Donnell at Joni Mitchell Celebration

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Here are a couple of photos from when Rosie O’Donnell attended an album release celebration for Joni Mitchell on Tuesday. If you have been reading Rosie’s blog lately, she has talked frequently about the album.

The second photo was captioned (by wire image) as Rosie “and her brother.” Not sure which brother it is, though.

Forbes
magazine has released their “TV’s Top Earners” list and The View’s Barbara Walters has made the list.

It is no surprise that Oprah Winfrey tops the list, making $260 million from June 2006-July 2007.

Barbara Walters comes it at number 18, making $12 million during that same period.

Barack Obama will not be on today’s View

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

barack-obama.jpg

Presidential candidate Barack Obama will not be on today’s episode of The View, as previously scheduled. I do not know the reason for the cancellation, but he is expected to reschedule at a later date. Today’s show instead will feature a full hour of “Real Life Hot Topics.”

This is quite a disappointment for me, as I have been looking forward to seeing him on the show since I first heard that he had been booked. Being from Illinois, I have been an admirer of Barack’s since his Illinois Senate days.

The View September 26th Recap: Kate Walsh and Christopher Titus

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

kate-walsh.jpg Whoopi Goldberg started today’s View by talking about Bill O’Reilly. He will be coming on the show on Whoopi’s birthday, November 13th. Bill recently went to dinner with Al Sharpton in Harlem. They played an audio clip from Bill’s show in which he said that Blacks are thinking for themselves now and not following Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson into a “race-based culture.” He also expressed surprise that the restaurant that they went to, Sylvia’s was not different than any other restaurant, despite the fact that it is run by Black people and most of the patrons are Black. He said that there were no people shouting “(M-Fer), I want another ice tea” and said it was like going into an Italian restaurant in a white suburb in that people were sitting and eating their food and enjoying themselves.

Sherri Shepherd wants to know if he has not been around any Black people and that is why he thinks they don’t know how to eat. Whoopi said that what gets her is the idea that it “just dawned on him that we are thinking for ourselves. This I find shocking. Didn’t he ever see The Cosby Show?”

The View September 26th and What Sherri’s Reading

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Today’s recap won’t be up until later tonight, but feel free to leave comments here about what you thought about today’s episode.

Also, I posted last week about how Whoopi Goldberg told Star Jones that Sherri Shepherd is trying to learn more about politics and current events so that she can pariticpate more fully in the hot topics discussions. There was some conversation in the comments about where she would get her information from (i.e. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Fox News).

On her MySpace page, Sherri said that she reads both the New York Times and The Washington Post each day, so that is at least part of where she is getting her information.

The View September 25th Recap: Jenny McCarthy and Joey Fatone

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

jenny-mccarthy.jpgThe View began by wishing Barbara Walters a happy birthday. She said that truck drivers were yelling “Happy Birthday” to her this morning.

They next moved on to the topic of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaking at Columbia University. Whoopi Goldberg said that the comments he made were not that surprising, as he has said them before, such as denying the Holocaust and saying that Israel should be taken off the map. Something that he had not talked about before is how he “does not have homosexuals” in his country. The ladies agreed that he was in deep denial and Joy Behar added that maybe we will find him tap-tapping in the bathroom like Larry Craig.

Elisabeth Hassebeck said that she thought that Columbia University president Lee Bollinger was grandstanding too much and making it about it him. Sherri Shepherd said that it looked like Lee wanted to beat him up back stage. Whoopi said that with Bollinger speaking negatively about Ahmadinejad during his introduction, it made it look Ahmadinejad “got jacked” and they should have saved the negative comments until after he spoke.

Rudy Giuliani was making a speech to the NRA and his cell phone rang. It was his wife, Judith. He spoke with her in front of the crowd. During the call, he said “I love you” to her twice.

Barbara asked whether the other ladies said “I love you” to loved ones after every conversation. Joy said that she lives with Steve and her daughter lives in her building so she would have to say it 25 times a day. Elisabeth said that she thinks that you should say it as often as you can because you never know when it will be the last time. Sherri said that she did not used to say “I love you” to her husband and that they just “talked nasty” to each other.
