The View December 21st Recap: Hilary Swank and The Lion King

Friday, December 21st, 2007

hilary-swank.jpgToday on The View, Barbara wore a bright red Christmas sweatshirt that said “Cheer” and big green ornament like earrings. She had a sweater that had Santa on it and the word “Joy,” which she gave to Joy Behar as a gift, even though it was her favorite. Joy said that she doesn’t know where it is.

Barbara said that she is going to visit some friends for vacation and then will back for New Year’s, which she hates. When she was younger she had a New Year’s Eve date and she kissed him at midnight and he said that she kissed too hard. Joy and Steve are going to France for vacation. Whoopi doesn’t know what she will doing, but should probably rest. She will probably spend time with her better half in New York and Vermont. Barbara said that sounds nice and Joy said, “Not as nice as mine.” Whoopi said that if she wets her bed, then it is her bed, not a hotel’s bed. Sherri does not have plans for New Year’s Eve and might do stand-up at a comedy club. She is used to being with her ex Jeffrey. They were together 10-11 years. Whoopi said that she used to have chronic pain and when it left, she only missed if for five minutes and then she was happy.

Barbara was sad before because she had only two friends on her MySpace page, the two owners of the company. Someone on her radio show told her it was because she is too old. Now she has approximately 12,000 friends. Whoopi told her not to post any pictures of herself without clothes on.

Whoopi said that people don’t seem to realize the consequences of putting inappropriate pictures on the internet. Whoopi said that her “girls” have been on the floor for so long that she doesn’t think she ever took nude pictures. Sherri said that Kim Kardashian made a sex tape and it was huge and now she has a reality show. Whoopi said, “What, he was huge?” (or something to that effect).

The View December 20th Recap: Mary J Blige and Perez Hilton

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

whoopi-goldberg-apple-store-mary-j-blige.jpgToday on The View, Whoopi Goldberg came out wearing a blue feather boa. She was also wearing a white top and pants because she wanted to dress up for Christmas.

Barbara said that President just got finished giving a press conference and she hesitates to read what he said, because she doesn’t “know what the redhead will say.” President Bush said that he thinks a presidential candidate should have fair principles and should not rely on opinion polls or focus groups to decide how to lead the country. Joy said that she is laying off Bush for Christmas.

The next topic was the pregnancy of Jamie Lynn Spears. Barbara said that raising a child is difficult and you cannot totally blame the mother. Joy asked why they don’t blame father? Sherri said that she had great parents, but she was “girls gone wild.” Joy said that it is not 100% the parent’s fault, but she is involved in a psychodrama group and a lot of stuff goes back to the way that we were treated as children. She said that maybe they were not being parented properly. Whoopi said that her daughter had a child very young and you can teach your child, but at some point they have to make their own decisions. Sherri pointed out that the father of the child is 18 or 19 and it might be statutory rape. Barbara said that it might not be in Louisiana.

The View December 19th Recap: Alicia Keys and Danny Glover

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

alica-keys.jpgAlicia Keys appeared as guest host today on The View. Her new album, As I Am is in stores now. She has one day off coming soon, Christmas Eve, then it is back to work.

Whoopi Goldberg mentioned Amy Winehouse and other people in the music business acting crazy and wondered if it was the business in general that causes it. Alicia said that different people have different lives , but that the music business is an intense business and you are exposed to so much so quickly. Whatever anyone asks for, they get. Alicia was raised in New York City and can handle any tough situations now.

Whoopi said that kids are rebellious anyway and if they are thrust into that business where they can get anything, they might say that the adult doesn’t know what is best for them.

That segued into a discussion of Jamie Lynn Spears, sister to Britney Spears, being pregnant at 16 years old. Joy joked, “We can’t blame that on Britney.” Their mother was planning coming out with a book on parenting before this happened, but now the publisher has delayed it. Joy said that it was like “Jeffrey Dahmer writing a book about food.”

The View December 18th Recap: Denis Leary and Mike Greenberg

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

denis-leary.jpgToday on The View, Barbara Walters wore another festive outfit, this time a bright red suit jacket. Joy Behar said that she looked like Liberace. She joked that Barbara is on all the best-dressed lists all year and then at Christmas dresses gaudily.

Barbara shared more holiday cards that she received from Liz Taylor, Joan London (who had her children, including two sets of young twins, in a Brady Bunch themed photo), Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Billy Graham (with a giant family, to which Sherri said “He’s still alive?” and Whoopi said something about there not being any Black people in the photo), and Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes (suede card with satin ribbon; Joy got one too).

Whoopi said that she doesn’t like the long letters that come with Christmas cards. She wonders whether she really needs to know all the details about people’s families? Sherri sends those letters out because we don’t communicate enough these days. Joy said that we are in constant contact now with e-mail and cell phones. Sherri said that it is not a deep communication that way. Whoopi said that she likes people to call her, but doesn’t have an answering machine and doesn’t use e-mail.

Barbara said that when gets pictures of babies in Christmas cards, they all look the same and she doesn’t know who the cards are from. Sherri said that she sends a photo of her with Jeffrey so that people will know who it is from. Whoopi was surprised that Barbara used the word “tykes” when talking about children, because no one uses that word very often.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck has own crying child story

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

You still have a few hours left to vote for me in this week’s Project Blog competition!

In her latest blog entry on Dreft, Elisabeth Hasselbeck writes that she tried to take baby Taylor to the mall and had to leave hurriedly as he started “wailing.” Of course co-host Sherri Shepherd just talked about a similar screaming-in-store story yesterday on The View, in regard to her two year old son. Maybe that is why it seems like these two get along well; they have the mom to a little one connection.

Here’s an excerpt of what Elisabeth had to say:

With hands filled with items that I desperately needed to buy - Taylor begins to WAIL. I am not sure that there is a good place to ever hear your baby cry…but the Men’s Department is DEFINTELY not the best. SO I began speed walking to the car…map out in front of me like a tourist, sweating like crazy, Taylor alarming everyone we passed. WE made it to the car, and I sat in the backseat nursing him for a bit, followed by a HUGE DIAPER. No problem: or so I thought. I am scrunched between 2 carseats, with Taylor on my lap…undo his explosive “present” only to reach for the wipes- and realize that I forgot them. Nice work mommy. In a total MacGyver move, I whisked out a bottle of water, and pour it over an extra diaper. Well, I MISS the diaper, in a moment of haste, and spilled it all over Taylor’s belly. SUPERMOM! AHHHH. He was screaming, I was hating myself. And most moms know how much babies lllllove to get a onesie pulled over their head…I thought it could not get worse. Five minutes later, he was happy as a clam, chugging away, and I was ready to call it a day.

There is also a story about her getting injured with a shopping cart at the grocery store. You can read the entire entry here.

Perez Hilton to return to the View

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Perez Hilton just announced on his blog that he will being making another appearance on The View, this Thursday.

I wonder if the ladies will be friendlier toward him than they were the last time?

The View December 17th Recap: Margaret Hoover and OneRepublic

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Don’t forget, there is still time to vote for me in this week’s Project Blog competition. Just go here to vote.

margaret-hoover.jpgToday on The View, it was another “Day of Hot Topics,” although I am not sure why they called it that since they had a musical guest also. Republican strategist Margaret Hoover appeared on the show. She is the great granddaughter of Herbert Hoover. Joy Behar joked that the female conservatives that come on the show are always dressed like hooches (she had on a silver sparkly minidress).

Joy said that she heard that conservatives have more orgasms than liberals. Margaret said that she wouldn’t know, having never been a liberal but that, unlike Joy, she did not miss the sexual revolution. Joy said that she did not miss it, she was just married. Margaret asked Whoopi if she missed the sexual revolution and Whoopi said “I am the sexual revolution.”

Sherri Shepherd’s son in New York City

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

sherri-shepherd-jeffrey-giggles.jpgSherri Shepherd has talked on The View and in People magazine about her difficulty being apart from her young son Jeffrey who lives in Los Angeles with his father. This weekend, however, Jeffrey was spotted with his mom in New York City. Celebrity Baby Blog has a photo of Jeffrey and Sherri at a toy store called “Giggle” in the SoHo portion of the city, which they visited together last Friday.

There are a few possible explanations for why Jeffrey is in town. Maybe Sherri could not stand being away from Jeffrey for so long and had him flown out to New York City, despite her worries about the cold possibly affecting his health? Or perhaps it was always the plan to have him move here, but she just needed time to get more settled? It could also just be a temporary visit, with Jeffrey still spending the majority of the time in California.

Whatever the case, I am happy that she is getting to spend more time with him. Hopefully his health concerns are not too serious to prevent him from living in New York City with her because that is probably the best situation for the both of them.

There are more photos of Sherri and Jeffrey at Giggle available at Getty Images and she looks very happy to be spending time with little Jeffrey.

In case you were wondering, Giggle is a store that sells children’s clothing, bedding, and toys. No word on what items, if any, Sherri picked up for her son.

ABC Q&A with Joy Behar

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

joy-behar-friars-club.jpg

Over at the official View site, they have an interview with Joy Behar. In the interview she states that she likes sharing the hosting duties with two other comedians because it is “bubbly.” She also said that she did not give Sherri Shepherd any advice when she started out because Sherri “knows what she’s doing.”

Here are some other highlights:

What’s your favorite topic to discuss on the show?
Sex! [laughing] I don’t have one, I have three—relationships, politics and sex. Relationships and politics are basically my two interest areas.

What do you think about the new era of the show? How have Sherri and Whoopi changed the dynamic of the show?
I like the way it’s evolving into a show with mature conversations and intelligent women, fun conversations. I’m very happy this year with this group.

The full interview is here.

The View December 14th Recap: Sean “Diddy” Combs, Chris Botti, and Sara Evans

Friday, December 14th, 2007

sean-diddy-combs.jpgSara Evans returned to co-host today on The View. Whoopi Goldberg said that she would love to have a country song written about her and her dread locks. Sara tried to come up with a song, but it didn’t really work.

Sherri Shepherd said that she had a bad habit of eating fast food and she only stopped when she learned she had diabetes. Diddy asked her backstage what diet she was on and she called her it was the “You get your foot cut off if you don’t lose 20 pounds diet.” Sara agreed that people have to get scared in order to quit a bad habit. Joy said that she has a friend who gets sick when she overeats and she wished that she had that. Joy used to smoke but quit when she “got smart” and also because it made her voice sound like she had Jimmy Hoffa in the back of her throat.

Whoopi used to have an addiction where she would buy 20 books at a time and she never read any of them. She added that she is down to two cigarettes a day. She (again) talked about the commercial that encouraged her to quit smoking. Joy would love to get addicted to exercise. Sherri said that sex burns 500 calories and Joy said “Not the way I do it,” adding that she only burns about 100 calories at most.

The View December 13th Recap: Megan Mullally and Greta van Susteren

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

megan-mullally.jpgToday on The View, Barbara Walters revealed that after her “rant” about the Jamaican embassy, she heard from everyone there that she had left messages for at the embassy. Barbara said that everyone needs their own show to solve their problems.

Barbara showed off some Christmas cards that she has received, including one from the White House. It is a religious card, which included a quote from the Bible, Nehemiah 9:6. She wondered if they sent the same card to everyone, even if they are atheists or non-Christian? Whoopi said that maybe the quote “You are the Lord” was meant only for Barbara. Joy said that maybe he is just telling everyone that he is religious and because it is the last Christmas, it doesn’t matter anymore.

She also received a card from Prince Charles and Camilla. Joy said that she read in the Enquirer that they were getting a divorce. Barbara also got a card from Elton John and Whoopi said that she got one, too. Barbara also received a card from the king and queen of Jordan. It showed a picture of them and their children, dressed casually in blue jeans. Finally she showed a card from Elisabeth which had pictures of her two children. Whoopi said that she got the card, but didn’t get a chance to look inside and she wondered, “Who are these white kids?”

I can almost picture it now…

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

I am not one to do New Year’s resolutions. When I was in the seventh grade, we had to do resolutions as a writing assignment. All I remember including is “Not worry so much.” Honestly I could put that same “resolution” every year and it will not do much good. I am a worrier; that’s just who I am.

While I am not a fan of once-a-year resolutions, I am a goal-oriented person. I often need goals to keep me motivated. For example, if I don’t have a particular event I am training for, I find myself running a lot less. Give me a training schedule, though, and I am out on the path every day.

With that in mind, spurred on by this week’s Project Blog, I decided to think of what my ultimate goal should be for 2008. Since I want to dream big, my goal for 2008 is…to be a guest host on The View!

my-2008-goal-be-view-guest-host.jpg

Yes, I realize that it will most likely never happen, but please indulge me this fantasy of how the day would go:

*********
Whoopi Goldberg will be in her moderator spot, then Joy Behar, then me. Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck will be to my left. We will start the hot topics segment with me explaining about my website and that not all blogging is mean and snarky. (I get the impression that Joy and Whoopi only think of gossip type sites when they mention blogging).

We will then have a wonderful hot topics segment where I am insightful, intelligent and poised. (Ha! Who am I kidding? Just imagining it in my head is making me nervous. I will be lucky if I don’t clam up completely!). I may go toe-to-toe with Elisabeth about a political issue or maybe debate religion with Sherri. Oh, and I will be funny! Can’t forget that. I won’t be slinging one-liners, but my wit will be obvious to all within earshot.
