Here is a video of Cindy McCain on The View this morning, April 21st. It is only a partial video of approximately eight minutes. For my full recap of the episode, head here: April 21st View Recap.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck has signed a deal to release a book about gluten free living. According to Publisher’s Weekly, the book is based upon her own experiences living with Celiac disease, as well as her own research. The book, titled The G-Free Diet is expected to be published in May 2009.

Today on The View Cindy McCain sat in as guest host. She walked out linking arms with Barbara Walters. Sherri Shepherd was not on the show today, with no explanation, only an assurance that she would be back tomorrow.
Cindy calls her husband “Johnny Boy.” Joy said that she wished she knew that when he was on the show so she could have sung that song to him. Cindy said that John is funny, a great cook, and into horticulture. She said that is why global warming is “one of the mainstays” of his campaign. She says that we have not done enough for the environment in this country.
Barbara asked her if she was wearing a flag pin and she said it was a pin of mothers of military. Her son, a Marine, recently returned from Iraq.
Cindy watched part of the last Democratic debate. She said that debates are very stressful on the family and it is hard to watch the bickering. She hopes, however, that the Democratic race goes on until the convention. Joy said that even the media is bored with the back and forth, adding that the ABC moderators were criticized for their handling of the last debate. Elisabeth said that they did a fantastic job by asking questions that Americans want to know. Barbara asked Cindy which Democratic candidate she thought was more formidable and Cindy said that both candidates are formidable and it makes it great for the voters.

The Boston Globe has an article today about Joy Behar, ahead of her April 26th stand-up performance at Boston’s Berklee Performance Center. While many of the personal information about Joy is familiar (i.e. how she got the role on The View and her relatively late-in-life journey to comedy), the author did present some new information about some behind-the-scenes at The View, which may be worth a read.
The article has as its focus the day that Barack Obama appeared on The View. When Joy arrived at the set, after missing the morning taping due to illness, she said, “Barack cannot go on without me.” Ahead of his visit, when Joy was under the weather, Elisabeth Hasselbeck apparently sent Joy and e-mail telling her to rest up for her “beau Barack.” The author noted that Joy has since framed the photo of her and Barack Obama taken the day he visited the show.

I have decided to get back into recording podcasts. I did several last year around this time and really enjoyed them. Let me know if you like the idea and whether I should keep them up. You can e-mail me here. (The sound quality is not the best, but I will try to improve).
If you missed all the previous episodes from 2007, you can listen to them here or download them at iTunes (link will open iTunes).
Today’s episode:
*A note about a change in commenting procedures.
*My assessment of Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd and their time on The View.
*Speculation on the future of The View.

As I wrote in my recap this morning, Sherri Shepherd was very emotional when Laurence Fishburne was on, as Sherri said that he is one of her idols. Video below of her excitement when he said that he remembered meeting her on an airplane, which quickly dissolved to tears as she was overwhelmed in the moment.
Today on The View Whoopi Goldberg started the show saying that she wanted to talk about a “very serious issue”: how we look. She said that she wears the one piece flexees shapewear instead of a bra and panties and loves them. Elisabeth joked that there are two kids in her house in onesies, she doesn’t need to be in one too.
The next topic was a man who sent them a “desperate letter” saying that he came into money and now family is hitting them up for money. Sherri gives money to her family because she feels guilty. Joy pulled a hair out of Sherri’s head because it was bothering her. Joy added that yesterday she was told that she had a long chin hair and she didn’t like that no one else told her. Whoopi said that she would kiss her on her lips and tell her if she had a panty line, but won’t tell her if she has a chin hair.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck and her husband Tim Hasselbeck attended the Conde Nast Traveler Hot List Party tonight in New York City. The first two photos are from the red carpet and the second two are from the “VIP Area” inside the event.

All of the ladies on The View had on red shoes because the Pope has been wearing red shoes. Joy put her foot up on the table to show hers and Elisabeth just held her shoe up in her hand. Joy asked her if she was pregnant again when she didn’t put her leg up on the table and she said that she is not.
They talked about the Democratic debate. Barbara Walters said that the questions were very strong (and not just because it was ABC) and good material no one heard before. She said that Hillary came across as more experienced and Barack Obama was on the defensive. Elisabeth thought that the follow-up questions were good and Hillary answered questions with specifics, while Obama was too general. Joy said that McCain admitted he doesn’t know anything about the economy. Elisabeth said that was a lie and to show her where he said that he didn’t know anything about the economy. Sherri said that when you say that the economy is fundamentally sound, you don’t know a lot about the economy.

Cindy McCain, wife of Presidential candidate John McCain will be co-hosting on The View on Monday April 21st.
From ABC:
This appearance will be Mrs. McCain’s first as a guest co-host, she previously joined her husband as a featured guest on Sept. 1, 2004, the day after the Senator spoke at the Republican National Convention.
The recap of The View for April 16th will be late. Feel free to comment here about today’s episode.
Today’s scheduled guest is Kelsey Grammer.
Today on The View was another day of hot topics and Barbara Walters was absent for the second day in a row. It is tax day. Elisabeth filed for an extension. Joy said that usually that means you are less likely to get audited. Sherri, who files taxes as a corporation, was audited last year. Whoopi is “over this” tax stuff. She makes a lot and understands she has to give some, but she is sick of being taxed for doing well for herself. She read all the different taxes on her phone bill and her electric bill and they showed them up on the screen. She said that it isn’t right when the government is bailing out banks and she has to pay more and more to heat her house. She said that in the last 23 years that she has been paying her “famous person taxes,” she hasn’t gotten any money back and wants to get some back.
Sherri said that when people make more money, they can have more write-offs. Whoopi said that she doesn’t have nearly any write-offs. Joy said that they can write off their make-up costs, etc. Whoopi said that she can’t because she doesn’t wear make-up. Joy talked about the Danish system, where the taxes provide free health care and free school up through graduate school, as well as heavily-subsidized childcare and other programs. Elisabeth said that maybe people should move to Denmark. Joy said that she heard that in the 60s, that if people don’t like the country they should “get their ass out.” She said that she doesn’t appreciate that argument. Whoopi said that she doesn’t mind the taxes if the money was going somewhere good. She added that Oprah and Bill Gates’ tax money could “float an entire nation.”

As I stated in my recap, the hot topics in the April 14th episode of The View were more contentious than they have been in awhile and Joy Behar really didn’t hesitate to express her feelings to Elisabeth Hasselbeck about John McCain, Roe v. Wade, and the Bush administration.
Below is a recap of a large portion of the hot topics segment. For the full recap head here: April 14th View recap.
