The View May 19th: Day of Hot Topics
Monday, May 19th, 2008
Today on The View, the aforementioned “big announcement” was that The View will be heading to Las Vegas June 23-27, which I wrote about this morning.
The first topic was a new Republican campaign ad that targets a comment made by Michelle Obama. Barack said that his wife is not fair game. Elisabeth said that they went after Teresa Hines-Kerry too. She said that if you are giving campaign speeches, you are fair game. Sherri said that they don’t have anything against Obama except Jeremiah Wright and the comment by Michelle. Elisabeth said that they have more policy based things that they just have not focused on yet. Elisabeth said that he is the most liberal senator there is.
Joy said that Obama has been in the Senate two years without any blunders and Bush had a lot of blunders over the last 8 years. She said that McBush is running now. Elisabeth said that Bush and McCain are very different. Whoopi said that they never put Hines-Kerry in an ad, so this is a different. She worries that it is the wrong path to go down and where do you draw the line, the children? She said that Betty Ford came out and admitted that she had a drug problem. (She couldn’t remember her name at first and Joy offered Cindy McCain).

The first topic on The View today was (another) poll, this one about “what people want.” For example, 44% of people want a limit on how many times a person can re-marry. Sherri Shepherd said that if someone gets married seven times, maybe it is not working out. Whoopi said that just because they were married that many times, doesn’t mean than the marriages were not good throughout. Also 41% of people want a renewable contract for marriage after five years. Whoopi said that can help people work on things and move on if they want to. She also added that if a couple doesn’t have kids, a divorce is not a big deal. Elisabeth said that marriage should be more of an investment than five years. The poll said that 29% of people want to be President. Barbara was surprised that it is not more.
