The View June 30th Recap: Re-run

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Today’s episode of The View is a re-run, as today’s episode starts a week-long hiatus from the show. This episode originally aired on May 26th, 2008, and featured Ali and Dina Lohan and Ryan Cabrera. It is the episode that they used to conduct the “behind-the scenes” show which will re-air this Friday.

At first I thought that the producers should have taken some time and gone back and selected those particular episodes that were quite good and re-air those, rather than just picking a few episodes from the last month. I tried to think about what episodes I would choose if it were up to me and nothing stood out. Then I realized that maybe they did take time in their selection and these are the best episodes that they could come up with.

If you want to read my recap of this episode from when it first aired on May 26th click here.

In other news, Whoopi Goldberg went with her grandchildren to Disneyland. Photo below from ETOnline.

Finally, since we all need something to talk about, I thought that I would offer my own “hot topic” question. Feel free to answer in the comments.

What effect will China’s political landscape have on your watching of this year’s Olympic games in Beijing?

I’ll go first. Earlier this year, I told my husband that we should not watch the games because I do not agree with many of the things that China does, like censorship and its financial dealings with the Sudan. However, as I have been watching the Olympic trials a bit lately, I really can’t see myself not watching the Games. I then told him that we would boycott the Olympics in the sense that we would only watch the swimming, gymnastics, and track and field (which are my favorite events). I am a little disappointed that I am not more stronger in my resolve.

Okay, your turn! And in Barbara’s words, “No crosstalk!!” :)

The View June 27th Recap: Bette Midler, The Kardashian Sisters, and Lance Burton

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Today was thankfully the last day in Las Vegas for The View. I found the whole week to be rather boring, with the near-elimination of hot topics and the less than stellar guest line-up. Here is a very general recap, without going into detail, because it is not really worth it. Video clips of the Bette Midler interview and performance and the interview with the Kardashian sisters are below.

They talked about how much they lost/won at gambling. Whoopi could not understand why people read fitness magazines while working out. Elisabeth demonstrated doing lunges while reading and Whoopi had to hold her dress down to keep the wind from blowing it up.

Bette Midler talked about her new Vegas show called “The Showgirl Must Go On” which is at Caesar’s Palace. The show replaced Celine Dion’s show. Bette then performed the opening number of the show from the theater.

The Kardashian sisters were and talked about the traits of each sister. They think people watch the show because there are so many different characters and they are real and don’t hold back. Kim Kardashian is happy with boyfriend Reggie Bush and it is not true that she took out an insurance policy on her butt.

Magician Lance Burton came on and performed a trick where he sawed Barbara Walters in half. She pretended to be reluctant to do it, but you could tell it was pre-planned.

In the final moments of the show, Sherri was talking about how it was the last day and they were leaving Vegas and Whoopi corrected her and said that they have another show tomorrow. Whoopi obviously has not gotten the hang of the “pretend it is live on Friday when it is not” thing.

Here is video of Bette Midler’s interview:

The View June 26th Recap: Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, and Wayne Brady

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

heidi-montag-the-view.jpgToday is The View’s second-to-last episode in Las Vegas. (By the way, next week is a week of re-runs on The View and includes the infamous behind-the-scenes episode if any of you missed it the first time around).

The episode started with a dance by some showgirls from Jubilee. Barbara Walters said that the showgirls were like “mother’s milk” to her because (guess what!?) her father ran nightclubs. (Really!?! I had no idea). One of the showgirls has been performing 11 years.

Whoopi Goldberg’s brother Claude was married in Whoopi’s Vegas hotel room. He was in the audience with his new bride. Barbara said that they look a lot alike and she could tell that is her brother. He is older than her, but Whoopi said she looks older than him. Barbara asked Clyde to tell her something they don’t know about Whoopi, but he declined. Joy said, “We weren’t invited” to the wedding and Whoopi said it was small.

The View June 24th Recap: David Cook, David Archuleta, and Danny Gans

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

david-cook-david-archuleta-the-view.jpgToday’s episode of The View was the second day in Las Vegas. The show started with a dance routine from the Chippendale dancers. No, I am not kidding. Then they all stood behind the table and two of them massaged Joy and Sherri’s shoulders.

Sherri Shepherd spent last night at the Chippendale show. She said that at first she didn’t want to go, but then she got into the fantasy that they all loved her. She went on stage and enjoyed it because she has not been groped in a few months. She joked she wanted one guy, but didn’t get him because she ran out of money. Elisabeth Hasselbeck went to the Venus Club, which was a pool/spa. She said that everyone was topless except for her. Elisabeth joked that she went around and placed a copy of Barbara’s book on their chests. Joy Behar won $200 at craps last night. She got mistaken for Bette Midler yesterday. Whoopi said “I hate to say it, but you people all look alike.”

The View June 23rd Recap: Rihanna, Penn and Teller, Jerry Ferrara, Debi Mazur, and Kevin Dillon

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

rihanna-the-view.jpgToday was the first day of The View in Las Vegas, being recorded live at Caesar’s Palace. They ladies were all escorted out onto the stage by Roman soldiers. Then Barbara Walters was carried out being carried on a bed thing by some other Roman soldiers. Whoopi threw flower petals. Since they were shooting outdoors, all the ladies had headset microphones and the sound was weird. They all, with the exception of Sherri, wore sunglasses. Whoopi wanted to know why all the “brother” soldiers were by Barbara and Sherri said that they read her book.

Whoopi said that Sherri Shepherd did a fantastic job at the Daytime Emmy awards. Barbara said that she was funny and looked divine. She also commented on Sherri’s Audition handbag. Whoopi said that she got a voicemail on her hotel phone that Barbara will be signing her book tomorrow. Joy thought it was a joke at first. Barbara said that she did not do it and she got the same message. Sherri said that she was loaned over $1 million in jewelry for the Emmys, so they sent a bodyguard with her. She requested a “fine man.” He even was in her dressing room to make sure she didn’t steal anything. They talked about Barbara’s fake smile when they lost the Emmy Awards. Joy wanted to know why Tyra Banks was in the informational talk show category and The View was not, asking “How does Tyra Banks have more information than we do?”
