Photos of Sherri Shepherd Hosting The Daytime Emmy Awards

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Sherri Shepherd hosted the Daytime Emmy Awards last night. I thought that she did a great job with what she was given. I thought that the writing of the whole show was pretty bad. The introductions to the nominees for each award were dull and uninspired. The writers were taking the whole thing a little too seriously I thought. I also that that many of the actors and actresses looked like they did not want to be there. I also don’t watch any soap operas, so I was pretty bored most of the time. I did watch Days of Our Lives a couple of years in college, but that is pretty much the extent of my soap opera history.

I was surprised to see The Rachael Ray Show win (because I thought that Ellen would win that one too) and not surprised at all to see The View lose. Did you all see Barbara Walters doing the fake smile and clap like they all rehearsed when they lost? I thought the intro skit featuring the various View hosts was cute and I will post video of it so you all can see it, as well as video of the moment when Cameron Mathison and Sherri had a “love scene.” (Click here for videos). In the meantime, here are some photos of Sherri Shepherd in two of her dresses. She also wore a pretty purple dress at one point, but I think that was only when she was sitting and interviewing some soap stars and I haven’t been able to find a photo of it.

Sherri Shepherd at Daytime Emmy Awards Gift Lounge

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Like Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Joy Behar, and Barbara Walters did last year, Sherri Shepherd spent some time in the Emmy Awards Gift Lounge yesterday. Here are some photos, including her posing with a blanket that features a picture of her and her son Jeffrey, as well as a man who I think is her ex-husband Jeff Tarpley. Why the company that made the blanket would use a photo that includes him, though, I have no idea.

The View June 20th Recap: Mike Myers, Verne Troyer, and Romany Malco

Friday, June 20th, 2008

mike-myers-the-view.jpg Today on this new, but pre-recorded episode of The View, all five ladies were at the table. Next week the show will be in Las Vegas and they read the names of the guests. Whoopi said, “Ooh,” when Sherri read “Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt,” although I am sure that she has no clue who they are. Elisabeth and Barbara are looking forward to the heat and Sherri is looking forward to the buffets. Whoopi told her that she cannot eat all that bad food. Sherri said that they have grilled chicken. They talked about gambling again.

Sherri is co-hosting the Daytime Emmy Awards tonight. She is nervous because she has only hosted her grandma’s bingo nights in the past. Joy said that stand-up is harder than hosting and Whoopi said that it is not. They talked about making nice faces if you lose an award. Barbara and Bill Geddie will be there in case the show wins.

Last night, Sherri ran into a man who used to be engaged to her good friend who broke up with him because of alleged cheating. They all thought that karma would get to him and bad things would happen to him. However, when she saw him he was gorgeous, has a great business, and a beautiful family. She doesn’t know what to tell her friend when she asks how he was doing. Whoopi said you have to tell her the truth. Sherri wants to lie and say he looked homeless to protect her friend. Joy joked to tell her that the children had tattoos. Barbara said to tell the friend the truth but tell her that she looks divine, it has been three years and to get over it.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck joked that she tries to real hard to annoy everybody. Sherri Shepherd said that she knows she annoys everyone when she yells to the crowd during the commercial break. Whoopi Goldberg said it is not how loud it is, but the high pitch that annoys her. Elisabeth said that she would never critique her boss because people these days are trying to keep their job. Whoopi said that she respects her boss, but if something happens she will speak up. Elisabeth said that if it is sexual harassment, though you should speak up. Joy said that she was sexual harrassed when she a teacher by a man who was observing her teaching. He told her that he wanted to “do” her on the chalkboard, although he did not use the word “do.” She didn’t know what to do with it and just thought he was a jerk.

Whoopi asked if you should tell people if they have something in their teeth. Elisabeth said there should be full disclosure of boogers, food in teeth, etc. Sherri said that she was grateful when a woman told her that she tucked her skirt in when she came out of the bathroom. Whoopi once told Sherri not to wear a clothing item because it was unflattering and made her look pregnant. Elisabeth said not to tell someone that when they are walking out the door but at a time that they can change it. Joy asked if you would tell a friend that you don’t like the man she is with. Whoopi said that if she has to spend time with them as a couple she will tell the friend she has a problem with the guy. Elisabeth told her friend not to marry someone. She broke off the engagement, but did eventually get married a few years later.

The View June 18th Recap: Michelle Obama and Matthew Broderick

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

michelle-obama-the-view.jpg

When The View began Michelle Obama came out onto the stage, her arm linked with Barbara Walters. After her introduction by Whoopi, Michelle said that she wanted to be greeted properly and gave each co-host a fist-bump. Whoopi joked, using her Valley Girl voice, “Should I be worried about doing that with you?” Michelle said she got it from the young staff and she is not that cool. Whoopi said she is glad it is not the chest bump.

Barbara Walters showed the NY Times article about Michelle which said that she in on The View to soften her image. She also showed a headline from Time about Michelle. Michelle said that her answer to the attacks is to take it in stride. She loves America and is proud of her country. She says that no where else is her story possible. Her father was a working class guy who worked hard to send her and her brother to Princeton. Her parents did not go to college and they had tremendous pride to see their children graduate college. When she made the comment, she meant that she did not have a pride in the political process like she has now. Michelle thinks that in part the attacks are part of the process. She thinks that people are tired of the tit-for-tat.

The View June 18th: Michelle Obama guest hosts (Video)

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

michelle-obama-the-view.jpg

UPDATE: Video clips added below. There are four altogether. I haven’t even gotten a chance to watch them myself, but I wanted to post them for all of you.

Today is one of the biggest days on The View in awhile because Michelle Obama, potentially the next first lady of the United States, will be guest hosting on The View. I am sure that you will understand how thoroughly annoyed I am by the fact that I won’t be able to watch the show live today because of work commitments. That being said, I am sure that a lot of media outlets will be covering today’s episode, so check back to this space for links to transcripts and video clips if you can’t see the show either. I will try to post them when they become available in between my work meetings.

If you are able to see the show, please comment away on this post about how you think Michelle did, whether you think the hosts asked good questions, and what you think of Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s treatment of Michelle Obama versus how she interacted with Cindy McCain. (I bet they are quite different).

I will be able to watch the show tonight and will provide my usual recap (I mean it this time!), even if it will seem old news by then.

The View June 17th Recap: Lance Armstrong, Robert Verdi, and Bill Engvall

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

lance-armstrong-the-view.jpg Today on The View, it was all five women again. On the way out, Sherri Shepherd’s necklace got stuck in her hair and Elisabeth Hasselbeck spent several moments trying to help her get untangled while Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar remarked on the new View mugs.

The first topic was a report that your shoes are dirtier than your toilet. Whoopi said that people will be taking their shoes off at her house. She said that you should not go barefoot, either, and should wear little booties. Sherri said that Martha Stewart said that she has a basket of booties at her front door. (this is scintillating stuff here, people). Elisabeth then pointed out the fact that an audience member had a copy of Barbara’s book in her lap. Then they talked about how long food can be on the floor and still eat it. Elisabeth said that a cracker can last 32 seconds on the floor and still be okay. Joy said that people get sick at the hospital because it is germ free and we need germs. Elisabeth said that you should take your clothes off when you go into someone’s house because they are dirty too.
