The View October 31st Recap: A Presidential Halloween

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Today on The View was the annual Halloween special. All the hosts dressed up as former Presidents of the United States. Elisabeth Hasselbeck was Ronald Reagan, Sherri Shepherd was Abraham Lincoln (on a penny), Barbara Walters was George Washington, Whoopi Goldberg was FDR, and Joy Behar was Teddy Roosevelt (complete with a live horse). (Photo above). Bill Geddie was Bill Clinton (not pictured).

Barbara gave some historical/biographical information about George Washington, trying to, I presume, talk like George, but it just sounded weird. Elisabeth ate jelly beans and talked a little about Reagan. Sherri really looked uncomfortable in her penny costume and gave some facts about Lincoln. Joy talked about Teddy Roosevelt and managed to work in a Viagra joke. Whoopi pointed out that FDR’s mom was the first mother who could vote for her son for president and gave some other facts. Bill Geddie did not want to come out on the stage for some reason.

The View October 30th Recap: Michael Phelps, Jeremy Piven, Cloris Leachman and Corky Ballas

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Today on The View, all five hosts were present. The first topic was the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s Thriller album.

Tomorrow on The View, all the hosts will be in costume. There is a link to a photo of their costumes on this post.

Mayor of NYC Michael Bloomberg will be on The View on November 5th. Barbara said that she and the mayor are “more than good friends” because they got “married” on a previous episode of the show.

The next topic was Barack Obama’s half-hour commercial last night. Whoopi did not watch it. Joy said that she is a decided voter and did not need to see it because she knows what she thinks, but she watched it. Sherri said that she is still undecided because she is still looking at the health plans and the military spending. Elisabeth joked that Sherri will be sleeping over at her house until the election so she can brainwash her. Elisabeth said that the commercial was boring and was hoping for something more exciting. She said that we cannot expect him to be frugal with our economy when he spent so much on a commercial. Barbara thought it was clever that he showed struggling families who lived in swing states and did not mention McCain or Palin. Whoopi said that if she had the dough and she was running, she would do it.

Watching the View News

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

First and foremost, I want to thank all of you who have come to Watching the View this month, as October 2008, has recorded the most visits and page views of any month since the blog began in January 2007.

Due to the extremely heated and off-topic nature of the commenting lately as a result of the upcoming election, I have decided to take the advice of several readers and make a separate post area where you all can come to comment on things that don’t pertain to The View. That way those people who come here to actually talk about The View and what they discussed on the show will not have to wade through hundreds of comments of talking points, links, and rumors. The comment section on my View recaps and articles will be more strictly enforced, without me worrying about stifling anyone’s right to speak their mind. Today’s off-topic thread is here: Watching the View Off-Topic Thread October 30th.

As most of you know, since this blog’s inception I have been able to post recaps for The View on a daily basis as soon as the show ends, usually with the exception of one day a week. This has been due to my very liberal work schedule. Unfortunately, through no fault of my own, that schedule will soon be changing. As a result, the way that the recaps are handled is going to have to change as well. Some days I may be able to get a recap of the hot topics section up in the morning, sometimes the entire episode, and sometimes nothing at all. I will do my best to keep up with the site because I appreciate all of my loyal readers and want to keep this site at its current level of participation.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me.

Watching the View Off-Topic Thread October 30th

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

It has become nearly impossible to moderate all of the comments, especially when I get home from work and there are over 250 comments on a post. I recognize that many readers come to this site to discuss the The View and they do not want to sift through hundreds of unrelated comments, either. Therefore, what I am going to do is, at least through the election, is offer a daily off-topic thread. This thread will be the place to argue about the election, post links, and rumors. Anyone who continues to post these kind of unrelated things on the View recaps and View-related posts will have their posts deleted. I have plenty of time in the next few days to stay on top of it and this will be strictly enforced.

That being said, this is where you can post off-topic things for today. The commenting on this post will be closed tomorrow morning and a new thread opened. Although you can be off-topic, please be respectful.

The View October 29th and View-related links

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

The October 29th, 2008, recap of The View will not be up. Feel free to comment here about today’s episode.

Today’s scheduled guests are: Blair Underwood and Natalie Zea (ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money); Pink performs; Joy Behar in the fifth anniversary celebration of Broadway’s Wicked.

Also, here are some View-related links for today:
The UK’s Guardian writes “How the View Got into Politics.”

Jezebel has their take on Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s latest interview with Sean Hannity (complete with very unflattering still frame shot). Thanks to berndoubt for the link.

Time has a summary of an interview of Elisabeth Hasselbeck that Barbara Walters did on her SIRIUS radio show. In the interview, she talks more about Sarah Palin’s clothing and calls Barack Obama’s 30-minute special to air on Wednesday “repulsive.” Thanks to susieq for the link.

Watching the View Petition: Rachel Maddow As Guest

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

If you have read the comments on today’s recap, the topic of Rachel Maddow came up. That led to discussion of how she would be a great guest on The View. I could not agree more, so I have created an online petition to attempt to convince ABC to have Rachel Maddow as a guest on the show. Who knows if it will work, but I figured it was worth a shot.

You can sign the petition yourself here: Get Rachel Maddow on The View Petition.

Please note, although the website will ask for a donation, you do NOT have to give money for your name to appear on the petition.

If you are not familiar with her, you can watch her show on MSNBC at 9pm eastern time or online at MSNBC, or listen to her on Air America radio.

The View October 28th Recap: Richard Dreyfuss, Duffy, and Bridget Regan

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Today on The View, Sherri Shepherd was back from Los Angeles, but Barbara Walters was absent. Sherri brought something for Grace from the Madagascar 2 premiere. While she was gone, Sherri went to Las Vegas because her best friend got married. Sherri stepped in as a bridesmaid and it was not fun. Whoopi Goldberg said that she would never wear a bridesmaid dress and tells people just to go to City Hall.

Someone in West Hollywood hung an effigy of Sarah Palin in his yard. Whoopi said you just don’t do that and this is a real person. Elisabeth added “with a family.” Sherri says you know exactly what they are trying to convey. Joy said that it had been Obama there would be a big hoopla about it. Whoopi said that she hopes that there is a big hoopla about this. Joy said that as much as she disagrees with her politics, this is outrageous. Joy said that it is not in the spirit of Halloween, which is supposed to be fun. Whoopi said that it was not clever. Elisabeth said “poo poo” on them.
