Barbara Walters Barack Obama Special (Video)

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

The Barbara Walters special featuring Barack Obama and Michelle Obama garnered high ratings last week, although I think that has little to do with the one asking the questions and everything do with the couple answering them.

If you missed it, or want to watch it again, here are video clips, courtesy of YouTube user lester94111.

Poor Ratings, Bad Reviews Doom Future Rosie Live Shows

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Rosie O’Donnell announced on her blog that any hopes that her variety special Rosie Live would be turned into a series have been dashed. The show, which just did not work, had poor reviews and low ratings.

Rosie wrote last night:

there will b no more

no ratings
bad reviews

yet still - a thrill 4 me

I, of all people, wanted this show to work, as it is no secret that I have been a big Rosie fan for many years. I was disappointed more than anything else, because I know she is capable of producing a better show than this. It looked just sort of thrown together and unrehearsed and I am not quite sure how that happened, as she had been preparing for some time, as I understood, and had been essentially planning a show like this her whole life.

In my opinion it was not just the odd comedy bits that did not work (did she really have to mention Donald?), even the guest performances seemed strange. Alanis Morissette, of who I am a fan, seemed strange looking and stood awkwardly the whole song like she could not move. Add to that the strange lighting and camera angles and the show never had a chance, even aside from the content.

I also found it strange that in the short stand-up portion that Rosie did herself, she used recycled material. She told that same joke about Chelsea and moms with no high-heeled shoes at the autism awareness special last April. She is a capable and funny comedian and should have come up with some new material considering the scope of the show.

I hope that Rosie did enjoy herself as much as she has asserted over the last couple of days because I doubt she will get a second bite at the variety show apple.

The View November 26th Recap: Teri Hatcher and Dancing with the Stars winners

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Today on The View, there was no Whoopi Goldberg because she has the day off. When the audience said, “Aww,” Joy Behar said she will be back Monday. Then she said, no, tomorrow, which Barbara echoed. Of course tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Which is a re-run. And we all know that Friday’s are pre-taped. So I have no idea who they are trying to fool.

The first topic was, of course, Barbara Walters’ interview with Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. She said that they invited them all to the White House. Barbara said that she thinks Obama wishes he could start on things now, rather than having to wait until January. She did not ask him about the sign reportedly at the White House that says “Please, don’t walk on the water.” She said it would be awkward to ask him about people calling him the Messiah.

Barbara said that the Obamas were cute together and at one point Barack wiped something off of Michelle’s face. Barbara left that part in the interview. She asked him if he was worried about his safety given that he is the first Black president. He said that he trusts the secret service and cannot really worry about that.

As I feared, Barbara did bring up her dog Cha-Cha in her interview. They showed a clip of it. Barack asked her if it was a “little yappy dog,” saying it sounded like a “girly dog.” He said he wanted a big rambunctious dog. Barack said that they are getting more advice about the dog than about his economic policy.

The View November 25th Recap: Faith Hill

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Today on The View, it was the four main hosts. The first topic was Barbara Walters and her interview with Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. She is in Chicago for the interview today. I love how they made it like a big breaking news announcement, even though the news came out last night and I posted it this morning.

Joy will be on Larry King Live tomorrow, where she will interview Alec Baldwin. She said that she was glad that she won’t be on opposite of Barbara’s interview.

Whoopi asked the panel what job in the new cabinet they would want. Sherri would want to be in charge of hospitality, be the “secretary of festivities,” as well as prayer. Joy would want to be Director of Communications, as John McCain joked she should be when he was on The View. Sherri joked Homeland Securty would be good for Joy because she calls the police on people. Then Joy meant to say something about Osama Bin Ladin, but said “Obama.” She said that she knew that was going to happen.

Elisabeth said that she would not be qualified to be the cabinet, but maybe could have been in John McCain’s administration. She would like to do something that would focus on child education or health. She said that the invitation from the Obama camp is not coming. Joy said that if Obama can forgive Lieberman, he can forgive Elisabeth. Whoopi said that they are just pretending and Obama will not be calling any of them. Whoopi would like to be an ambassador, noting she is currently a UN Ambassador to help children. She would like to be the ambassador to Hungary or Germany.
