Barbara Walters will have an exclusive interview with Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. It will air November 26th at 10:00 p.m. eastern time on ABC. (Source). I really hope that she does not ask them if they got her letter about her dog Cha-Cha. I don’t know if I would be able to handle the embarrassment I would feel for her. The cynical part of me wonders if she tried to get the interview to air opposite of Rosie O’Donnell’s special? Luckily for those of us who want to watch both, there is no conflict. Rosie’s special airs earlier in the night on NBC.

Defamer Australia thinks that Simon Baker is now at the top of Barbara Walters’s “To-Do List.” (Includes partial video of his interview)

The View November 24th Recap: Tony Bennett and Simon Baker

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Today on The View, all five hosts were present. The first topic was whether President Bush should step down and let Barack Obama take over now. Barbara Walters said that you cannot do that. Joy Behar said that then he would be stuck with Cheney. Barbara said that the new treasury secretary is talking with the current one to start implementing plans now. Barbara hopes that Obama can restore confidence. Elisabeth pointed out that the electoral college has not technically elected Obama yet, adding that Michelle Obama has probably not picked her inauguration dress and they don’t have a dog yet, so it is too soon. Joy said that the country is in a state of emergency and in limbo. Barbara said not to make people panicked and we are not in a state of emergency. Sherri Shepherd said that a lot of people are getting scared. Elisabeth said that so many small businesses in the area are closed now. Joy said that the rent rates are so high in NYC for small businesses. Whoopi said that the idea of Bush stepping down so Obama can start now is being suggested tongue in cheek because he needs time to get things together. Joy said that people are concerned that Obama will be blamed for all the problems that are being caused by Bush now. Elisabeth said that the new president will absorb whatever he walks into and Bush did that. Joy said, though, that Bill Clinton got blamed for much of what happened during the Bush administration.

New Rosie O’Donnell Video (Bet This Won’t Make Access Hollywood)

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Rosie O’Donnell posted a great video on her website, which describes what Rosie’s For All Kids Foundation has done in the past few years, including giving grants to early childhood education providers, as well as her successful Rosie’s Broadway Kids program.

Although it seems like many of her other blog entries immediately show up on Access Hollywood or Extra, I doubt they will deem such a positive story “newsworthy.” Perhaps during this Thanksgiving week, however, they could find it in their hearts (if they have one?) to post this positive video about the ability to overcome obstacles and reach your dreams.

The View Recap November 21st: Rachael Ray and “Bank on The View.”

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Today on a special “Bank on The View” edition of The View, Rachael Ray sat in as guest-host. Both Sherri Shepherd and Barbara Walters were absent, so there were four hosts. Rachael send she would be sending chicken soup over to Sherri, who is under the weather.

I missed a bit in between, but then they were talking about how you have to make healthier food taste good so kids will want to eat it. She suggested turkey burgers with turkey bacon. Elisabeth told her that she should open up her own fast food restaurant. Rachael suggested that you should take your spare change and use that to buy healthier food. Elisabeth said that her friend saves money buy shopping by the circular. Joy said that you can eat less, too. Elisabeth said that anorexics are doing well these days. Whoopi said that you need to check the ingredients in food. Joy said that there used to be one chubby kid in class and now the whole class is overweight. Elisabeth noted that they have gotten rid of recess and kids exercise less. Then they talked about how fun dodge ball is.

The View November 20th Recap: Barbara Walters Responds to Rosie O’Donnell’s Comments About The View

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Today on The View, all five hosts were present. Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, and Bill Geddie went out to dinner last night. Joy said that Barbara is an alcohol pusher and kept trying to get her and Bill to drink more. Joy said that Barbara knocked back a couple of martinis, but Barbara said she only had one and that was enough. Joy said that is because she weighs 10 pounds. Barbara regrets having chocolate souffle.

Barbara said that she is proud of the staff and crew because of the high ratings and many have been there for 12 years. Barbara said that some people who were on the show go on to great things like Lisa Ling and Meredith Vieira. She said that other people who have been on the show leave and feel they need to “dump on” the show, perhaps for their own publicity. Barbara said that if the shoe fits, those people need to “get on with your lives.” She added that “We are not perfect,” but things are good. Joy said that they are a dysfunctional family and they do get along pretty well. Elisabeth said that there have been difficult years, one more difficult than others, but that they have to have respect for each other to do what they do.

Rosie O’Donnell Talks About Lack of View Camaraderie

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

According to LA Times blog, while publicizing her upcoming (Wednesday, November 26th) variety special, Rosie O’Donnell was asked about her time on The View. Rosie stated that Barbara Walters, “wanted everyone to believe and think and act as if [the hosts] get along and are really good friends and happy and hang out together, and, you know, that’s just not the reality. I’m not saying they loathe each other, but the fact of the matter is, there was not a lot of camaraderie off camera.”

Rosie also stated that arguing about politics is not the best use of her talent and her variety show will be “an hour of fun, laughter, singing and dancing. No politics. No arguing. No talking about controversial things. That, to me, is what is needed now.” Scheduled guests on the show include Liza Minnelli, Alec Baldwin, Ne-Yo, Alanis Morissette, Gloria Estefan, Kathy Griffin (Yay!) and Jane Krakowski.

You can read the entire article, which also addresses Proposition 8 at LA Times Blog.
