The View Recap November 18th, 2008: Jessica Lange and Mike Huckabee

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Today on The View, it was the four main hosts. The first topic was Sherri Shepherd’s weekend in Orlando for Super Soap Weekend. She has lost her voice a bit and Joy Behar said it was sexy and she was strangely attracted to her. Joy had lunch with Dustin Hoffman yesterday, but had to turn down a movie invitation with him because she had other commitments. Joy will be interviewing Alec Baldwin on Larry King Live on Monday. Elisabeth said that they are getting jealous of her relationship with Larry King.

The cover of The Advocate says “Gay is the new Black.” Whoopi said that some people are complaining about the comparison between gay rights and Black suffrage. Whoopi did not know what “suffrage” meant. {Whoopi: It means the right to vote.} Sherri said that Black people had to go through a lot with Jim Crow and lynching and risking death. Whoopi said that gay people were harmed, too, although not as many as Black people. Elisabeth said that they should be fighting for the rights and not the word “marriage.” She repeated her point that the people voted for this and not judges. Sherri repeated about churches not wanted to marry gay people and getting sued and Whoopi repeated that law prohibits that in California. (I really wish they would just stop repeating themselves.)

Sherri Shepherd attended Super Soap Weekend again this year in Orlando, Florida. There are a couple of photos of Sherri at the event, at blog at Orlando Attractions Magazine.

Whoopi Goldberg recorded an audio message for all the people who sent her Happy Birthday wishes at her WoW blog. The highlight is when she said that she was surprised that she meant so much to people when, as she put it, “I’m just sort of here scratching my butt and hoping to help the world somehow.”

The View November 17th Recap: Day of Hot Topics and David Frost

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Today on The View, Barbara Walters was present, but Sherri Shepherd was absent. She spent the weekend in Florida for “Super Soap” weekend. Whoopi Goldberg made that announcement using another weird accent.

Barack Obama had his first post-election interview last night on 60 Minutes. They played clips of the interview where he talked about his mother-in-law possibly moving into the White House. Barbara said that watching the interview was reassuring because Obama had so much knowledge about all the topics covered in the interview, like the auto industry and the economy. Barbara talked about other first families that had in-laws in the White House.

Barbara sent a picture of Cha-Cha to the Obama family as a suggestion of breed of dog, because she is hypo-allergenic. Whoopi talked about her cat again being angry about the Obamas getting a dog and not a cat.

The View November 14th Recap: Michael Easton, Gloria Estefan, Emilio Estefan

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Today on this pre-taped, but new, episode of The View, all five hosts were present. The first topic was whether we are entering a new era of political correctness. Barbara Walters said we have been in that era for years and Whoopi Goldberg agreed. Joy Behar said it came up when the Italian prime minister referred to Barack Obama as “sun-tanned.” Barbara said that he has said much worse things. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that it extends to the schools during the holidays where there is no celebration at all because of the risk of offending anyone. Whoopi said that because we are a melting pot you have to celebrate everything. Elisabeth wrote a paper in the third grade about not liking the phrase “melting pot” because it takes away everyone’s background and we should celebrate differences. She thinks it should be a tossed salad instead.
