Reminder: Rosie O’Donnell’s Movie Airs Saturday

Friday, February 27th, 2009

rosieorange.jpgJust a reminder that Rosie O’Donnell’s new Lifetime movie America airs Saturday, February 28th at 9:00pm eastern time.

Rosie has been on television the past week promoting the show. I just watched her on The Bonnie Hunt Show and I thought it was a great interview. It lasted several segments and included conversations about her family, the movie, as well as her new crafting obsession: Munny.

During the interview she said that she discovered the young actor who plays America in the film when she saw him eating a diner with his family. He had no previous acting experience, but she convinced him to audition and he nailed the part.

She also talked about how her daughter Vivi apparently has a great gift for gymnastics.

Rosie was also on The Tyra Banks Show, but for some reason my DVR taped different episodes of Tyra and I am confused how that happened. Instead of Rosie, I got some sort of dating episode. I have found some clips of it online, but not the whole interview.

Feel free to comment here about any interviews you have seen with Rosie or about what you think of the movie after it airs tomorrow!

The View February 27th Recap: Rob Lowe and “The Bachelor” Jason Mesnick

Friday, February 27th, 2009

rob-lowe Today on this prerecorded episode of The View, the four main hosts were present. (Ever notice how Barbara Walters is a lot more scarce when she doesn’t have a special to promote?) The first topic was the fact Clint Eastwood said in a recent interview that he missed the days that he could make jokes based on ethnicity. Joy Behar said that he said that he gave the interview to a German newspaper and talked about Jews. Sherri Shepherd said that she would like to know what the minority feels about the jokes as a measure of whether it appropriate. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that causally tossing around racial terms or sexist terms, there is not a place for that. Whoopi asked what about comedy, saying Don Rickles does it well. Sherri said that the person at butt of the joke might not think he does it well. Elisabeth said at least you know where people stand as opposed to when people are PC and hiding what they really feel. Whoopi said that do we all have certain feelings like that, noting that she was driving in her car and screamed at an old person who was driving too slow. Sherri said that no one can say they have not said something bad when they are alone. Joy said it is okay for her to joke about Italians because she is one, but it is not okay for others to do so.

The View February 26th Recap: Day of Hot Topics and Mutt Dog Show

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

day-of-hot-topics Today was another “day of hot topics,” on The View with the four main hosts present. The first topic was American Idol and they played a clip of a guy singing silly. Sherri Shepherd was “offended” at first because he was “making a mockery of American Idol,” but then realized he could sing. Is she serious? A mockery? It is a television show. Whoopi Goldberg thinks that they all tend to sound the same, which she doesn’t like. Then they showed another clip. Jeez. They need to rename the show American Idol Rewind or something. I. don’t. care.

The next topic was about Paula Abdul not liking there being four judges. Good Lord.

The View February 25th Recap: Jeff Foxworthy and Labelle

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

labelleToday on The View, Whoopi Goldberg returned from her trip to Los Angeles where she attended the Academy Awards. Barbara Walters was not present. They came out onto the stage to “Lady Marmalade” and Whoopi had to sing some of it. Sherri Shepherd tried to sing it, too, but she did not know the words.

Whoopi slept a lot on the bus ride home and is very refreshed, saying that is why she looks so good. She had a great trip and went to parties and saw fabulous men. She said (again) that she was very attracted to Daniel Craig. Then talked (again) about what it was like being on the stage. Did she forget that she called in on Monday and said all this already?

The View February 24th Recap: Tom Jones

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

tom-jonesToday on The View it was Barbara Walters as moderator again, as Whoopi Goldberg is still in the process of driving home from Los Angeles on her bus. Barbara made sure to point out that the song they walked out to was Tom Jones. Whoopi e-mailed the hosts a photo of a dog saying that she still looks good despite the partying and travel.

The first topic was the Octo-mom and the fact that she got into a videotaped argument with her mother about whether she should have used all the embryos to make 14 children. Her mother questions how she will be able to raise them. Sherri said she can’t get over how much she looks like Angelina Jolie. Joy thinks she should be called “Octo-lips.” Elisabeth said that she is just a few weeks post-birth and is likely far from rational and exhausted. She thinks that all the attention on her right now will affect her emotional state.

The View February 23rd Recap: Jane Fonda

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

jane-fonda Today on The View, Barbara Walters acted as moderator because Whoopi Goldberg is on her way back (via bus) from Los Angeles, where she participated in the Academy Awards. They all thought she looked great last night. (I disagree. You can see pictures in a post I did last night). They all complained how about long the Oscar ceremony was on. Joy Behar liked Tina Fey and Steve Martin. Elisabeth Hasselbeck thought Hugh Jackman did a great job. Barbara thinks that Joy and Sherri should do the show. Sherri said that the show had the “Obama effect“ because there were a lot of Black people participating in the show. Barbara said that is because there are so many more than there were before. (Black people?) Joy said that she did not notice. Sherri said that she noticed because she is used to seeing the lack of Black people.

The View February 20th Recap: Tyler Perry and Keshia Knight Pulliam

Friday, February 20th, 2009

keshia-knight-pulliamToday on The View, which was pre-taped, all five hosts were present. The first topic was how excited Whoopi Goldberg is because Tyler Perry is on the show today. Sherri Shepherd said that she went to the premiere yesterday of Madea Goes to Jail and it was so funny that people probably wanted to tell her to stop laughing. (Pictures of her at the premiere are here).

Barbara Walters showed more clips of her Oscar special. Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked if Anne Hathaway is still with her crook boyfriend and Barbara said no, he is in jail. Elisabeth said she meant emotionally, not physically living together. Joy said that plenty of people get married in prison.

Whoopi still does not know what they are planning to with her at the Oscars. Barbara thinks that they are going to have all the past winners there. Whoopi said that is a lot of people. Whoopi is wearing a Christian Dior dress and will not be wearing sneakers. She said that she asked them if Mr. Dior is going to be upset with her wearing it. Barbara said that he is dead. Whoopi said she knew that. Barbara wants her to wear the dress on the show next week. Whoopi said that if they let her have it, she will. Her jewelry is coming from Fred Leighton. Whoopi will not be on the first couple episodes of next week because she will be taking her bus to and from Los Angeles.

There is an ABC news report that 20 million couples have sex less than 10 times a year. Barbara said to some people that sounds like a lot. Joy said that you don’t start that way, but you work toward sexlessness. Barbara asked them how long the hot sex lasts in a relationship. Joy joked, “with your husband or someone else?” Sherri said it is a commitment you have to make. Barbara said that you have to be more romantic and do other things. Elisabeth said, “Not wear fleece to bed.” Barbara said that is fine for 5-7 years, but knows lots of women who were married many years were upset that Viagra came out. Sherri was married six years and wonders what interferes with having sex later in a marriage. Whoopi said, “life” and that priorities shift around. Elisabeth said it is not just later in marriage, but all the way along that things change. Elisabeth said that women like intimacy before sex and then after sex men feel more intimate. Sherri said that men can compartmentalize and have sex when the baby is crying. Whoopi said that is because have external parts and need to get things taken care of quickly. Barbara said that women can fake it. Joy said that the woman with the chimp was intimacy and she was sleeping with the chimp.

The View February 19th Recap: Laurence Fishburne and Make-up under $10

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

laurence-fishburneToday scheduled guests on Today on The View, all five hosts were present. The first topic was the controversial comic in the New York Post that shows police shooting a chimpanzee with the caption that they will have to find someone else to sign the next stimulus bill. Whoopi said that the paper is getting a lot of controversy because of the racist connotations in the cartoon. Barbara Walters said, “Because it’s a black monkey.” (What the??) Elisabeth Hasselbeck said it was like when Lebron James was on Vogue cover looking like King Kong. She said that she does not understand why it is so hard to be mindful of things that are offensive and stereotypes. Barbara said even portraying the president as a wild animal is offensive. Whoopi said it was the caption that made it connect to the president and without the caption no one would have a problem with it. (Thank you, Ms. Obvious).
