And the “pick a guest host” contest winner is…
Stephen Colbert was first mentioned in the comments by Peaches, so she is the winner of The View mug. I have also chosen two random winners, so check your e-mail to see if you have won!
I chose Stephen Colbert because I think that it would be really funny, for many of the reasons Peaches mentioned in her well reasoned entry. I am sure that Barbara Walters would be mystified by him. I can just imagine Whoopi reading from her card, saying something like, “So, you believe in, uh, truthiness?” I think that Joy would “get” him and it would be interesting to see if Sherri would play along, agreeing with any of his ideals.
Thanks to all who entered! This was definitely my most successful contest in terms of reader response! It was a difficult decision, as many of the other entries were very clever as well. I could many of the people mentioned working out well at the table with the current ladies. I really wish that the folks at ABC were as clever as all of you are in terms of creativity in choosing hosts. I do feel like they are scared at this point and trying to be safe, so as not to offend. Of course, as many of you have also pointed out, that can make for really dull television.
Unfortunately, of course, I have no pull with ABC and they probably would not do anything this interesting anyway, so we will instead be forced to watch more soap stars and tabloid show hosts guest hosting.

Congratulations Peaches!
It would be great if Colbert could guest host one day.

Hmm. That’s weird. I tried to post I “heart” Stephen Colbert (using the less than sign and a 3), but it didn’t come through.
Also wanted to say that Barbara would never get Stephen’s character. She’s way too literal for that kind of humor!

Congrats, Peaches! Good choice. I would like to see a humorous man on the show…someone with an ironic twist to stuff..maybe get some of the panel to do a double take. Joy would be good with him on the show..lot of laughs.

For all of you who read and enjoy this show like I do: I was out tonight in NYC at a gay bar called Marie’s Crisis and Sherry Shepard who I have always been on the fence about was out singing show tunes at the piano. It’s a sing along place. She wasn’t on stage. I wasn’t quite sure if it was her at first but even without makeup, she’s easy to spot. I didn’t want to bother her but I went out to have a smoke and she was leaving and I told her she was doing a great job on the show. We didn’t talk much, I told her that I watch the show every day and her face actually lit up, she’s enjoying living in NYC, blah, blah, blah. The minor vibe that I got from Sherry was that she’s a sweet lady. If she can hang with the gays singing show tunes, I think she’s a good host for the view! Somehow I don’t think this will be a hot topic on Monday….

I definitely concur.

“I think she’s a good host for the view! Somehow I don’t think this will be a hot topic on Monday.”
That would make a great hot topic on Monday’s show. Anything is better than talking about sex and Britney Spears.

Thanks for the congrats! I was so excited when Winnie told me the news that I kinda sorta convinced myself that, in addition to the mug, it meant that Stephen actually would be on The View….
I saw him tonight at a book signing. He was flanked by all his writers, so it was mildly chaotic, verbally, and I was too distracted, I’m sorry to say, to mention Winnie’s contest. I so want him, his “people,” whoever, to book him on the show! I think he’d especially like to now that Babs is saying out loud that they only want to do light and fluffy topics…..

The picture you put up of him is perfect, Winnie. That cocked eyebrow always makes me laugh…

Peaches,
I know you too must be Jonesing for some Colbert and Stewart. Well I found this little fix for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIKH7bq6exw

Thank you, Rainlillie! Ain’t you sweet! Yes, it has been very rough lately not having my Stephen nightcap. Especially since Rosie isn’t around much, either.
I hope you saw the cartoon in this week’s Village Voice lampooning O’Reilly — and, as icing on the cake, Keith reading the whole thing aloud on Countdown.

“I hope you saw the cartoon in this week’s Village Voice lampooning O’Reilly — and, as icing on the cake, Keith reading the whole thing aloud on Countdown.”
You’re welcome! Yes I did see the cartoon on Countdown last night. I agree, the “icing on the cake” was Keith reading it. Lets hope this strike comes to an end soon, and Jon and Stephen will be back on doing what they do best.
