April 13th Recap: Halle Berry and Mat Kearney
Barbara Walters talked about a lecture she went to on longevity that her “friend” gave. Joy Behar gave a knowing look to Rosie O’Donnell and mouthed “friend” in a way that indicated it was not that innocent. The Rosie mouthed “it’s her boyfriend.” As I posted previously, Barbara has been romantically linked to Dr. Robert Butler.
Some of the things that she learned from the lecture are:
There are 78,000 people in the United States who are at least 100 years old. There have been more advances in the last 30 years for increasing longevity than in previous 300 years. Some tips for longevity that she learned:
Exercise is helpful for not only the heart, but the brain. You should do squats from a standing position to a sitting position (which all the ladies then demonstrated), because if your thigh muscles are strong it prevents falls and helps you to get up easier from a sitting position. If you eat a balanced diet, you don’t need to take extra vitamins. Pinot Noir is the best red wine for your health.
Joy mentioned that a woman that she saw on television who was 100 years old and had gotten breast implants when she was 85 years old. Joy said that, at that age, she should have told the doctor she wanted “new hips, not new tits.” (Of course that last word was bleeped out by the censors).
Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that she had read about “purity balls,” which are taking place in Colorado. The ball is like a cotillion or a big father-daughter dance, where the father gives the daughter a promise ring to wear and she vows to keep her virginity until she is married. Joy asked if the dances were at “Woody Allen High School” and said the name itself “purity balls” sounds bad. Barbara said it is very creepy that you are promising your father that you will remain a virgin until you give it up to your husband. She asked if whether the boys would also get rings from their mothers. Joy also asked why the mothers can’t give the ring to their daughters and make it less patriarchal.
Elisabeth said it is a good idea because the girls are doing it with a group and will have friends to help support them to keep their promise. Joy joked “so there is group sex involved now?”
Halle Berry appeared on the show to promote her new movie Perfect Secret, which co-stars Bruce Willis. She plays another “troubled” character and she loves those types of roles because they are more like real people. She was neighbors with Bruce Willis and walked over to his house and gave him the script; he agreed to do it the next day. She said the film is “twisted” and the ending is “mind-blowing.”
Halle will also be starring in an upcoming movie called Nappily Ever After, which is based on a book of the same title. Halle said there is nothing wrong with the word nappy per se, it is the way that Don Imus used the word that made it derogatory.
Halle went to an interview with Esquire magazine and she was sick of the same questions. The interviewer agreed to let her write the article herself and she asked the interviewer the questions that she gets asked all the time. For example, she asked him about his failed marriage and whether his wife’s career impacted the marriage. She said that she likes to make fun of herself, which is why she went to the Razzie Awards to accept her award for Catwoman. She found the experience to be very empowering.
Barbara started to ask her about her current relationship and Halle said “why don’t we talk about your boyfriend??” She then said that is was great that he taught Barbara how to do the exercises, but joked “I wonder why he wants her going like this all day” as she squatted up and down. Halle said that her current relationship is going well and that it helps “that he has a job” unlike her “last experience.”
Singer Mat Kearney appeared on show to perform the song “Nothing Left to Lose.” His music has appeared on various television shows, such as Grey’s Anatomy and Laguna Beach
