Barbara Walters Lunches with Star Jones?

by Winnie McCarthy

According to TMZ, Barbara Walters had lunch with former View co-host Star Jones Reynolds at the Carlyle Hotel yesterday. Star has previously said on her show that she hoped to meet up with Barbara at some point and maybe have her as a guest on her new show one day.

I wonder if their lunch date was as awkward as this good-bye?

Can anyone remind me of the way in which Star talked about political topics when she was on the show? I didn’t see it much back then, and remember her more for her bridezilla and “I’m so fabulous” talk than anything else. I think I remember she had conservative and/or right-wing views on some topics, but I don’t remember her being knee-jerk partisan on either side. Who can refresh my memory and fill in the gaps?

Perhaps Babs is talking to her about coming on the show as a guest?

    Star is left leaning.

Do you think they knew the cameras were watching?

I have the feeling that most “stars” know that someone is always around with a camera (a la Spears). Does anyone know what happened to the Oct 10th recap? I can’t find it and I left a reply and don’t see it either…not that my replies are that important..just like to read what others think about stuff.

    May,

My guess is Star will be back on the View during sweeps. I still don’t think Joy is that fond of her. She seemed a little cold when she was asked about Star during her LOGO interview.

  7. May Says:

Winnie, Thanx for the recap on the 10th. Guess my remark was taken off for some reason..
Rainlillie, I hope Star does come back on for sweeps. It would be good if they all made nice again. I agree about Joy/Star not being great pals. Joy remarked on one interview with Larry King that she has not seen Star since she left the show and she tried once to watch Star’s show but couldn’t find it.

May: Your recap was on the Oct 10th placeholder entry (before I got the full recap up)

I’d like to see Star come back on as well. I liked her, but did not get to watch the View during the last year or so that Star was on. So i don’t know much about the “bridezilla” era.(but did read things)
If my memory serves me right(and lately that’s debatable..LOL) Star did seem to lean somewhat to the right, but not on all issues. However that is going back a few years. People do and can change their opinions.
I’m sure that her and BW knew there were cameras around.

  10. Peaches Says:

I’ve had the idea Joy doesn’t like Star, either. Two things I remember are: Joy being bitchy to her when she phoned in to The View after having some type of cosmetic surgery on her breasts; when Meredith planned a wedding for someone, which Joy I guess attended, Joy made a big point of saying how understated & classy it was, unlike some people’s over-the-top spectacles.

I just didn’t remember Star being predictably knee-jerk partisan like EH is & was curious if anyone else could recall how she was with politics.

If forced to choose, I’d rather have her than EH on the panel.

    star the lawyer, was genius….. star the bide, d i s a s t e r !

  12. Mandee Says:

I’m sure it was awkward, whenever you fight and make up it feels weird, especially when everyone is watching. They are two intelligent woman, I am glad they decided to call it truse, they may not have lunch ever again, but at least they are not at odds.

  13. Elsie Says:

Yes, they are two intelligent women. And it seems like a truce. If Star appears on “The View”, it would be good for both parties. Joy might be surprised how understated and classier Star is these days.

  14. rainlillie Says:

“Star Jones has been notoriously silent about her gastric bypass surgery — for years she denied it, and she only recently admitted that she had the surgery in a September 2007 article for Glamour. But her show today was the first time we have heard her speak publicly about the surgery and its impact on her life. Star (who was a size 24/26 and had to lose 160 pounds!) mostly wanted to react to the backlash she got from jealous, angry friends and urged her guest, a fellow gastric bypass patient, to seek counseling. Two choice quotes:

“It hurts my feelings to think that people never came up to me and said, ‘You don’t need to gain any more weight’ but they sure as heck will say, ‘You don’t need to lose any more.’”

“Let the haters hate, girl, that’s what they do. If you wake up and you got 20 haters, be mad because you need 20 more.”
