I could see why BW would be annoyed. Some people have a thicker skin than others. I think TMZ was trying to be funny, IMO they failed!

What a stupid ’story’. And the way the narrarator was speaking was incredibly annoying. Personally I thught BW handled that gracefully. Guess since they were unable to get a rise out of her, they had to resort to child-like beavior in sugesting BW was being difficult.
TMZ has unk to a new low.

I personally think BW overreacted. Yes, it was stupid and immature, but it really wasn’t that bad. Her job puts her in the spotlight, and if she can’t handle a stupid piece like that from a tabloid, she’s in the wrong business. I think the way to handle would have been to just not acknowledge it at all, act as if things like that are beneath her. Just one person’s opinion…

I missed approx. the first 8 minutes of the show today. Maybe if I had watched/heard BW discusing this, I’d feel differently. As it stands I’m just going by what’s shown here, on the video. It strikes me as a bit juvenile and a dumb stunt overall.
I do agree this pales in comparison to what Rosie experiences.
October 29th, 2007 at 5:35 pm
I don’t disagree that it’s juvenile and stupid, I just think she should have ignored it. Who cares what TMZ says? It’s the worst kind of tabloid show out there; why dignify it with a response at all? And, if this is the worst that is said about her, then she should count her blessings, given the field of work she’s in.

Now TMZ has a video of BW complaining today on the View about them.
October 29th, 2007 at 5:41 pm
I think BW gave TMZ exactly what they wanted. I’m sure they did the story about her in the hopes that she would mention it on the air and they would get more attention and publicity. I would think that BW would have realized that and just ignored them.
As for the segment itself, I didn’t find it funny or mature. But I didn’t think it was as mean as BW was making it out to be. They’ve done so much worse to so many celebrities. Perhaps this experience will make her have a little more empathy for Rosie, but I doubt it.

I see and understand both of your points Sasha and Sarah.
And you are right, she played right into their hands. I don’t understand these shows. It’s like someone poking and prodding a dog over and over using a stick. When the dog gets mad and growls and attacks back, they say ‘oh no!, look the dog is vicious and mean. He’s dangerous!”
And the person with the stick its back with a ‘what?, I didn’t do anything… ” attitude.
They create stories. Just lie with the BillO people showing up at book signings with leading questions and a camera. The run back to the studio to spin the encounter.
I think its sick behavior.

Stacee, what you said:
“It’s like someone poking and prodding a dog over and over using a stick. When the dog gets mad and growls and attacks back, they say ‘oh no!, look the dog is vicious and mean. He’s dangerous!”

Ditto. These shows aren’t witty, they don’t make me laugh … their humor isn’t even smart, or subversive. It’s frat-boy humor. Pseudo-tough guys. Piss-ants, actually (those two at Rosie’s signing).
I thought Babs handled herself well. Too bad she had to bring it up on The View … She really dragged out the story, as well. And didn’t get much indignance ir sympathy from her cohosts.
However, it’s nothing like the hatred toward Rosie; I feel like there’s a vendetta out against Rosie … almost as if they don’t even want her to breathe, to live. They seem angry that she has a book published, a book signing. “How dare she!”
Babs *should* be able to “handle” these jerks, but a part of me wonders why an 80-year-old almost-has-been should be targeted like this. Kinda sad. But I hope it makes her sympathetic toward Rosie.

Whoop dee ding. Big deal.
October 29th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
An obvious ploy to promote their tv show and website. BW gave them free advertising too.
It was a silly piece, but not as awful as she made it sound.

“Perhaps this experience will make her have a little more empathy for Rosie, but I doubt it.”
Amen. That was nothing compared to what Rosie continues to go through on a daily basis.

It’s really bizarre the way the right has so much animosity towards Rosie. It’s not as if she has power to make or shape policy. My husband said it’s because she is everything that they despise; a woman, a lesbian and anti-Bush.

Maybe now BW will think twice before having people like perez on her show. Also, “entertainment” shows are becoming more tabloid-ish and remember that week when they had everyone they could find from those dumb shows? Of course it was fine then when they were only attacking rosie.
Its so funny to me to hear whoopi and now barbara say ‘oh the media is so mean’ or ‘they completed changed what I said’, yes ladies thats how it works.

Don’t like the TMZ crowd. Levin looks like a fool. But if you want to avoid the pap, u must avoid Robertson Blvd. especially, The Ivy and Kitson. BW handled herself well.
