Barbara Walters Time Capsule
I found this great picture of Barbara Walters from 1980. Pictured with her are Henry Kissinger and Mike Wallace. They were attending a Friars Club event honoring Kissinger. Elisabeth Hasselbeck was three years old at the time (as was I).

Thank you for posting this, Winnie. It made me want to look up Babs’s broadcasting background because I’d forgotten all she had accomplished. I found an interesting piece about her on

This line in particular jumped out at me:
“According to Walters, she was not allowed to write [while she was on the Today Show] for the male correspondents or to ask questions in “male-dominated” areas such as economics or politics, and she was forbidden to interview guests on-camera until all of the men on Today had finished asking questions. Thanks in part to Walters’s contributions, these commandments no longer apply.
Unbelievable.
