The View February 25th Recap: Jeff Foxworthy and Labelle

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

labelleToday on The View, Whoopi Goldberg returned from her trip to Los Angeles where she attended the Academy Awards. Barbara Walters was not present. They came out onto the stage to “Lady Marmalade” and Whoopi had to sing some of it. Sherri Shepherd tried to sing it, too, but she did not know the words.

Whoopi slept a lot on the bus ride home and is very refreshed, saying that is why she looks so good. She had a great trip and went to parties and saw fabulous men. She said (again) that she was very attracted to Daniel Craig. Then talked (again) about what it was like being on the stage. Did she forget that she called in on Monday and said all this already?

The View February 24th Recap: Tom Jones

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

tom-jonesToday on The View it was Barbara Walters as moderator again, as Whoopi Goldberg is still in the process of driving home from Los Angeles on her bus. Barbara made sure to point out that the song they walked out to was Tom Jones. Whoopi e-mailed the hosts a photo of a dog saying that she still looks good despite the partying and travel.

The first topic was the Octo-mom and the fact that she got into a videotaped argument with her mother about whether she should have used all the embryos to make 14 children. Her mother questions how she will be able to raise them. Sherri said she can’t get over how much she looks like Angelina Jolie. Joy thinks she should be called “Octo-lips.” Elisabeth said that she is just a few weeks post-birth and is likely far from rational and exhausted. She thinks that all the attention on her right now will affect her emotional state.

The View February 23rd Recap: Jane Fonda

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

jane-fonda Today on The View, Barbara Walters acted as moderator because Whoopi Goldberg is on her way back (via bus) from Los Angeles, where she participated in the Academy Awards. They all thought she looked great last night. (I disagree. You can see pictures in a post I did last night). They all complained how about long the Oscar ceremony was on. Joy Behar liked Tina Fey and Steve Martin. Elisabeth Hasselbeck thought Hugh Jackman did a great job. Barbara thinks that Joy and Sherri should do the show. Sherri said that the show had the “Obama effect“ because there were a lot of Black people participating in the show. Barbara said that is because there are so many more than there were before. (Black people?) Joy said that she did not notice. Sherri said that she noticed because she is used to seeing the lack of Black people.

The View February 20th Recap: Tyler Perry and Keshia Knight Pulliam

Friday, February 20th, 2009

keshia-knight-pulliamToday on The View, which was pre-taped, all five hosts were present. The first topic was how excited Whoopi Goldberg is because Tyler Perry is on the show today. Sherri Shepherd said that she went to the premiere yesterday of Madea Goes to Jail and it was so funny that people probably wanted to tell her to stop laughing. (Pictures of her at the premiere are here).

Barbara Walters showed more clips of her Oscar special. Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked if Anne Hathaway is still with her crook boyfriend and Barbara said no, he is in jail. Elisabeth said she meant emotionally, not physically living together. Joy said that plenty of people get married in prison.

Whoopi still does not know what they are planning to with her at the Oscars. Barbara thinks that they are going to have all the past winners there. Whoopi said that is a lot of people. Whoopi is wearing a Christian Dior dress and will not be wearing sneakers. She said that she asked them if Mr. Dior is going to be upset with her wearing it. Barbara said that he is dead. Whoopi said she knew that. Barbara wants her to wear the dress on the show next week. Whoopi said that if they let her have it, she will. Her jewelry is coming from Fred Leighton. Whoopi will not be on the first couple episodes of next week because she will be taking her bus to and from Los Angeles.

There is an ABC news report that 20 million couples have sex less than 10 times a year. Barbara said to some people that sounds like a lot. Joy said that you don’t start that way, but you work toward sexlessness. Barbara asked them how long the hot sex lasts in a relationship. Joy joked, “with your husband or someone else?” Sherri said it is a commitment you have to make. Barbara said that you have to be more romantic and do other things. Elisabeth said, “Not wear fleece to bed.” Barbara said that is fine for 5-7 years, but knows lots of women who were married many years were upset that Viagra came out. Sherri was married six years and wonders what interferes with having sex later in a marriage. Whoopi said, “life” and that priorities shift around. Elisabeth said it is not just later in marriage, but all the way along that things change. Elisabeth said that women like intimacy before sex and then after sex men feel more intimate. Sherri said that men can compartmentalize and have sex when the baby is crying. Whoopi said that is because have external parts and need to get things taken care of quickly. Barbara said that women can fake it. Joy said that the woman with the chimp was intimacy and she was sleeping with the chimp.

The View February 19th Recap: Laurence Fishburne and Make-up under $10

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

laurence-fishburneToday scheduled guests on Today on The View, all five hosts were present. The first topic was the controversial comic in the New York Post that shows police shooting a chimpanzee with the caption that they will have to find someone else to sign the next stimulus bill. Whoopi said that the paper is getting a lot of controversy because of the racist connotations in the cartoon. Barbara Walters said, “Because it’s a black monkey.” (What the??) Elisabeth Hasselbeck said it was like when Lebron James was on Vogue cover looking like King Kong. She said that she does not understand why it is so hard to be mindful of things that are offensive and stereotypes. Barbara said even portraying the president as a wild animal is offensive. Whoopi said it was the caption that made it connect to the president and without the caption no one would have a problem with it. (Thank you, Ms. Obvious).

The View February 18th Recap: Bonnie Hunt, Ben Lyons, and Ben Mankiewicz

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

bonnie-huntToday on The View, all five hosts were present. The first topic was that Facebook backed off from their new terms of service due to the big backlash. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that they got a lot of complaints and maybe they were watching the show when they talked about it yesterday. Barbara Walters joked, “It was all us.” Elisabeth said it is “exceptional” that Facebook is listening to the people. Joy Behar said that they are policing themselves and that is good.

Barbara was on Regis this morning and mentioned it because she was wearing the same outfit.

The View February 17th Recap: Day of Hot Topics

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

day-of-hot-topicsToday on The View was another “day of hot topics,” with the four main hosts. The first topic was, no kidding, The Bachelor and how “steamy” it got on last night‘s episode. Joy asked if the couples have sex on the show. Elisabeth made Tim watch it and he translated what they said to one another that really meant that they were going to have sex that night. Joy joked that Elisabeth and Tim will have another baby soon if they keep watching together. Whoopi said that the contestants barely know each other and she would laugh if someone said they were falling in love with her after such a short amount of time. Elisabeth said that they have not seen another man in a month, so of course they are falling for the guy. Joy said that the CDC needs to check out the show.

The View February 13th Recap: Clive Owen and Melissa Leo

Friday, February 13th, 2009

clive-owenToday’s guests on The View are Clive Owen (The International) and Academy Award nominee Melissa Leo (Frozen River). Feel free to comment here during the episode and I will post my recap when I have finished it. (I predict the first “hot” topic will be whether the hosts are superstitious. Then they will pretend it is Friday the 13th, even though the show was taped on a different day).

The View February 12th Recap: Special “Love Theme” Episode

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

miss-piggy-kermit Today’s episode is a special “love theme” episode, featuring Miss Piggy, Patti Stanger (Millionaire Matchmaker), and Helen Fisher (author, Why Him Why Her).

I think that this show is a bit too much of a snoozer for a full recap. Here are some “high”lights:

* Barbara Walters has an upstairs neighbor whose dachshund won best of its breed at the Westminster dog show and she was in the audience. Then they inexplicably showed a picture of Barbara’s dog Cha Cha holding Barbara’s book. Not funny in the least.

* They talked about American Idol and whether they need to look a certain way. Whoopi Goldberg said that people don’t buy music based on how someone looks. I said out loud “If you are a teenager you do.” Then Whoopi said the same thing. Weird.

* As several of you pointed out in the comments, the Kimberly-Clark giveaway was proven to not be so “random,” although I always kinda knew that. Sherri had not yet pushed the button to stop the rotating photos when it froze on the face of the winner. I loved how could you hear Whoopi and Joy asking her if she had pushed it yet. I guess they thought that the button really did something.

* Miss Piggy looked adorable. I loved her zebra print gloves.

* I have watched the Millionaire Matchmaker a few times. I find her to be pretty annoying, but watch the show anyway. (The same goes for those young guys on Million Dollar Listing. Is that show coming back?) I can’t believe Barbara asked her if she has sex with her boyfriend.

* Although the book may be interesting (I have no idea), the segment with Helen Fisher was really boring.

The View February 11th Recap: Kate Winslet and Jane Krakowski

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

janekrakowski.jpgToday on The View, it was the four main hosts again. There were two women in the crowd screaming and waving a yellow flag. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said she is still mad about the Super Bowl and then something about the Seahawks. Didn’t she mean the Cardinals? I thought the fans in the crowd were Steelers fans, but maybe I am the confused one. Whoopi Goldberg said that Brett Favre is retiring again.

A 10-year-old dog won the Westminster Dog Show last night. Joy thinks he is cute, but Sherri thinks he is ugly. Whoopi said that she is a cat person and still thinks he is cute. Whoopi now wants a Puli, who she said looks like her, but doesn’t want to have to groom it. Sherri said that the winning dog was not a mutt. Joy pointed out that they don’t allow mutts at the dog show. Joy said that was the plot of her book that her dog would not be allowed into the dog show because he was a mixed breed. Whoopi said that they should do a mutt dog show on The View.

The View February 10th Recap: Daniel Dae Kim and Joan Rivers

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

daniel-dae-kimToday on The View, it was the four main hosts. The first topic was how Sherri Shepherd went to see the Dancing with the Stars tour in Atlantic City. She showed a picture of her with Derek Hough and Mark Ballas and the men were both topless. Sherri said that she is officially a cougar. She said that the fantasy of them kept her awake for the drive home. Either would be her ideal partner on the show because they are short like her. Joy Behar suggested Danny DeVito would be good.

President Obama’s first prime time press conference was on last night. Joy thought he was very good and it was a pleasure to have a “president who speaks English.” Elisabeth said it was good to hear some things that he had to say, but noted his first answer to a question was longer than his introduction. She said there was a funny moment when he was asked about something Joe Biden said and Obama said that he doesn’t remember what Biden was referring to, “not surprisingly.” Sherri said that she appreciated that Obama went to Indiana to speak to the people and answered questions.

The View February 9th Recap: Day of Hot Topics with Diane Sawyer and Mario Cantone

Monday, February 9th, 2009

diane-sawyer.jpg EDITOR’S NOTE: I apologize for the site being down for most of the day. Unfortunately my blog network had a server issue and the site went down without warning.

Today on The View was another “day of hot topics,” all five hosts were present. The first topic was last night’s Grammy Awards. Whoopi Goldberg “actually watched” some of it. Elisabeth Hasselbeck thought it was very entertaining and loved the pairing up of different artists. Barbara Walters loves the Jonas Brothers because they are on her Oscar special. Sherri Shepherd said that she was glad that Jennifer Hudson won best R&B album. Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus performed together and Whoopi said about Miley “that little girl can sing.” Barbara talked about the Jonas Brothers again. Whoopi said that the Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder “knocked me out.“

Joy joked that she though that the artist dancing pregnant was the octo-mom. It was M.I.A. and her due date was yesterday, but she performed anyway. Joy wants to know why Gene Autry got an award because he died along time ago. Sherri asked if that was the guy with Trigger. Whoopi said it was an award for his contributions to music. They talked more about other performances and I wondered if this topic was going to on as long as the award show itself.

The View February 6th Recap: Teen Theme Episode

Friday, February 6th, 2009

molly-ringwaldToday’s episode was a special episode of The View about teenagers. The four main hosts were present. For some reason, Whoopi Goldberg had her hair styled strangely and used an Irish (Scottish?) accent. Then she explained because it went to see Shrek the musical with Sherri Shepherd last night. Whoopi related a lot to Shrek and that is why she was compelled to impersonate him.

Whoopi asked if the hosts would want to be teenagers again. Joy said that she would if she had a good hair conditioner and she would love her old body back. She would also like mace because there were perverts in the neighborhood. Sherri would like to be a teenager again, just to talk to some of her classmates that were so mean to her. She lacked the confidence then that she has now. Joy said that a lot of people in show business are motivated by revenge. Joy asked Elisabeth if she was and Elisabeth said “sure” and that everybody has people who gave you trouble. Whoopi said that she doesn’t think about the people who were nasty to her because she is having a pretty good life. Elisabeth said you have to be careful to say you got the better of others because it might go away.
