The View May 8th, 2009 recap: John Stossel, Kenneth Branagh, Leonard Nimoy, and Alyse Myers

Friday, May 8th, 2009

leonard-nimoyToday on May 8th, 2009 episode of The View, the four main hosts were present. The first topic was about how Tom the Warm-Up guy has been a Trekkie since age 12. He used to dress up as Spock for Star Trek conventions. He showed off some of his Star Trek knowledge, which is quite detailed. He said that the only people that make him star struck are Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner, the Pope, and Whoopi Goldberg (which he has had to get over since she has been on the show).

The next topic was about how kids can get birds and the bees through text messages, which I fast-forwarded through because it was boring me.

The View May 6th, 2009 Recap: Judy Scheindlin, Justin Chambers, Biz Stone and Evan Williams

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

justinchambers.jpgToday on the May 6, 2009 episode of The View, all five hosts were on the show. The first topic was how they went to the Time 100 dinner last night. I posted pictures of the event last night, so scroll down for last night’s post to see the photos. Michelle Obama spoke at the event. Bill Geddie was Barbara’s date. They showed photos of Elisabeth and Barbara shaking Michelle Obama’s hand. There was one mention of Michelle’s great speech and four to five mentions of how great she looked (including her arms, her waist, her back, etc). Elisabeth said that she and Michelle had stress between each other during the election time and although she had a private conversation with her on the phone after the election, it was great to see her and shake her hand. She said that it was a great moment to be able to do that post-election after all that has gone on. Oprah Winfrey toasted Barbara Walters as one of the most influential people in her life.

Sherri Shepherd was the only person dancing at the event during John Legend’s singing, even though John said “get up and dance.” Sherri grabbed some man and danced with him. Joy joked that she sat next to one of the Twitter guys and he was very brief, just like tweets. She also sat by the EP of Morning Joe. Barbara was sitting next to another Twitter guy. He doesn’t have a TV set or a car. She said that he is “not very advanced” and only likes to read and not watch TV. Sherri said that Jimmy Fallon made a joke about Michelle Obama that they are making a comic book where she is a superhero and is battling her arch enemy sleeves. She said that not every laughed at it. Barbara was sitting with a young woman who is the press secretary for Michelle Obama. Barbara wonders if comics are afraid of making jokes about the President and First Lady because they are afraid of being racist. Whoopi said that people aren’t sure how to make jokes about race. Joy said that the liberal comedians had a field day with how stupid President Bush was and the right wing comics need to come up with something. She said that Chris Rock should do some jokes about the Obamas.

The View April 29th, 2009 Recap: Marlee Matlin

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

harold-perrineau-daughterToday on The View the scheduled guest was supposed to be Harold Perrineau (ABC’s The Unusuals). However, I just checked the schedule and it now says: Marlee Matlin (author, I’ll Scream Later); How to lose 5 pounds on fast food with Keri Glassman. I love this picture I found of Harold and his daughter, though, so I am leaving it up.
***
Today on the April 29, 2009, episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg was “off” again today. Joy Behar said that everyone needs a day off once in awhile.

Sherri Shepherd went to the WWE last night and hung out with MVP and “got to know each other a little bit better.” He is single and has a good job, which makes her not worry about his credit score. I saw pictures of her online that I will post a little bit later today where she was in the ring and smacking MVP’s opponent. I am not sure if that was a rehearsal or if the Friday WWE show is taped? Sorry I know nothing about WWE and how that works.

The View April 23, 2009 Recap: Meghan McCain guest hosts and Jim Parsons

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

meghan-mccainToday on the April 23, 2009 episode of The View, , Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Barbara Walters were both absent. Meghan McCain, daughter of John McCain, sat in as guest host. Elisabeth is in Florida on “family business” and Barbara is in Argentina.

Meghan is being followed on Twitter by Karl Rove, which she thinks is creepy. She said the blog post she wrote about that tried to make the point that Rove on Twitter is a metaphor for the Republican party trying to woo young Republicans. They are using Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich, and Dick Cheney as the face of the party to do that. Meghan said that Rove twittering will not bring more young people the party. Whoopi asked who she thought should be the face of the party. Meghan mentioned Congressman Aaron Schock and a quote by Christy Todd Whitman about the need for a place for moderates in the party. Sherri about her the lack of diversity in the party. Meghan agreed, saying they need to branch out, noting that she recently spoke at an event for gay and lesbian Republicans. Meghan is pro-life and pro gay marriage. She wants the party to be more open to moderate ideas.

Whoopi asked her about her thoughts on the prosecution for torture. Meghan said her father, who was tortured for five years, is anti-torture and she is anti-torture because of that. She said that he is the best person to ask about the issue because he experienced it. Meghan said we can’t act like animals and it is what separates us from the terrorists. She does not know what the answer is, but thinks her father knows better than anyone that it is not the answer. Joy joked that having to still watch Rove and Cheney is “real torture.” Meghan wants the party to become more of an umbrella party like it was during the Reagan time. She thinks that the entertainment value of politics has led to the change of the party.

The View April 20th-24th, 2009 Schedule: Meghan McCain guest hosts

Friday, April 17th, 2009

meghan-mccain
UPDATE: Now ABC is only listing Meghan McCain as guest host on Thursday, rather than both Thursday and Friday.

Here is the schedule for The View for April 20th-27th, subject to change. Highlighting the list are two guest-host appearances by Meghan McCain. I know several of you previously commented that you thought she would make a great co-host, so now is your chance to see her in action. I wonder if one of the regular hosts will be gone those two days or if she will just be taking the Barbara Walters spot and we will have five days of five hosts?

Additionally, I am bit unsure about Tuesday “exceptional women” episode. Candy Spelling? Exceptional?

Monday April 20th: “Day of Hot Topics,” Dr. Steven Lamm reports the latest medical news

Tuesday April 21st: The View Special Edition: Exceptional Women with guests Sally Quinn and Quinn Bradlee (author, A Different Life); Candy Spelling (Stories from Candyland); Susan Welch (author, 10-10-10 A Life Transforming Idea) and music from Lily Allen

Wednesday April 22nd: Jeremy Irons (Impressionism); music from the Clark Sisters; co-host Sherri Shepherd’s birthday cake challenge with Food Network

Thursday April 23rd: Guest co-host Meghan McCain; Beyoncé (Obsessed); Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory)

Friday April 24th: Guest co-host Meghan McCain; Jamie Luner (ABC’s All My Children); music from Lil Wayne; Self magazine’s “Best Products of the Year”

The View April 16th, 2009 Recap: Tom Bergeron and Kristin Chenoweth

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

kristinchenoweth.jpgToday on The View for April 16th, 2009, the guests are Tom Bergeron (host, ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and author, I’m Hosting as Fast as I Can) and Kristin Chenoweth (author, A Little Bit Wicked). I love Kristin Chenoweth, so I will be watching today, even if I cannot recap. Don’t worry, the mystery will all be over tomorrow, one way or another, and I will clue you all in on the reasons for my lack of recapping.

The View March 20th, 2009 Recap: Regis Philbin and Christian the Lion Tale

Friday, March 20th, 2009

dennis-haysbertToday on the taped episode of The View, the main four hosts were present. Although the original listing said Dennis Haysbert was going to be on, he wasn’t.

Sherri Shepherd said her girlfriend is interested in a guy who has spent nine years in a relationship and nine years in another relationship. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said it says something that it might take him a decade to just commit to someone.

Joy Behar said that is a great track record and elephants gestate for that long. Whoopi Goldberg suggested that maybe he doesn’t want to get married. Whoopi wondered why they have to go looking for a husband.

Whoopi brought out an old lady sounding voice and said in the old days, they just dated people to date them and not to get married. She said that she is not the marrying kind anymore and used to like it just for the party.

There is a new book about how to break up with people, including friends and hairdressers. Elisabeth said that now people are breaking up on texts on Facebook. Joy likes the idea of just texting someone instead of having a long conversation about it. Whoopi would rather do it face to face so you can see the person out and not have to duck them.

Joy said that she had a girlfriend who was dating a guy who looking like Jim Perdue, the chicken guy. To break up with him, she sent him an e-mail that said, “Adieu Purdue.” Whoopi said that she would have written, “Bawk Bawk Bawk.” Joy joked, “or bawk you.” (Which they inexplicably bleeped.)

The View February 23rd Recap: Jane Fonda

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

jane-fonda Today on The View, Barbara Walters acted as moderator because Whoopi Goldberg is on her way back (via bus) from Los Angeles, where she participated in the Academy Awards. They all thought she looked great last night. (I disagree. You can see pictures in a post I did last night). They all complained how about long the Oscar ceremony was on. Joy Behar liked Tina Fey and Steve Martin. Elisabeth Hasselbeck thought Hugh Jackman did a great job. Barbara thinks that Joy and Sherri should do the show. Sherri said that the show had the “Obama effect“ because there were a lot of Black people participating in the show. Barbara said that is because there are so many more than there were before. (Black people?) Joy said that she did not notice. Sherri said that she noticed because she is used to seeing the lack of Black people.

The View February 2nd Recap: A Day of Hot Topics

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

day-of-hot-topicsToday on The View, all five hosts were present. The first topic was the Super Bowl. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that she was really watching because Tim was with the Cardinals last year. She loved it and thought it was a good time. Sherri Shepherd thought Larry Fitzgerald run was amazing. Barbara Walters said it was the kind of game you see in the movies, even if you don’t like sports. Joy Behar went to a Super Bowl party and gained five pounds.

Then they talked about the commercials. Whoopi liked the E-trade commercial with the babies, which they played a clip from. She also liked the cash for gold commercial with MC Hammer and Ed McMahon, which they also played. Her favorite was the Career Builder commercial.

Barbara liked the one where the guy threw the ball and hit his boss in the crotch.

The View January 23rd Recap: Mickey Rourke, Nathan Lane, Mike Birbiglia

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

83632578RL005_OPENING_NIGHTToday on this pre-taped episode of The View, it was four hosts again, with Sherri Shepherd being absent. She will be back on Monday.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck had a “major problem” with The Bachelor this week, which she just watched on TiVo. She is pulling for one woman who lost her husband and is a single mom. However, the woman’s little girl, who appeared in the episode, was not in a car seat or even buckled in the back of a car leaving their date with the bachelor. Barbara Walters thought maybe she was in the car for a moment for the shot only. Elisabeth said that there is a higher risk of death for toddlers not in car seats or booster seats. Joy said she wondered what the truth of all of it is, because women used to drink while pregnant, and smoke, and didn’t buckle seat belts.

The View December 11th Recap: Dr. Oz and Ming Tsai

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Today on The View, it was the four main hosts, with Joy Behar returning from her absence yesterday. No specific explanation of her absence was given.

The first topic was the announcement of the Golden Globes nominees. Joy’s favorite movie was Slumdog Millionaire. Sherri Shepherd was happy to see Tom Cruise and Robert Downey, Jr. were nominated for Tropic Thunder. Heath Ledger was nominated posthumously for The Dark Knight. Joy thinks the best performance was Sean Penn in Milk. Whoopi liked Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler. Elisabeth said she needs to catch up on all the movies because she hasn’t seen many of them and wants to go to Whoopi’s house because she gets all the screeners.

The show was then interrupted because Barack Obama was holding a press conference. The purpose of the press conference was to announce the nomination of Tom Daschle to head the Department of Health and Human Services. Most of the questions at the press conference were about the Illinois governor, Rod Blagojevich, however. When they said “one last question” and the reporter said that she wanted to actually talk about healthcare, ABC cut-away from the press conference in favor of talking more among themselves about the governor. Anyone else annoyed by that?

The View Recap November 21st: Rachael Ray and “Bank on The View.”

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Today on a special “Bank on The View” edition of The View, Rachael Ray sat in as guest-host. Both Sherri Shepherd and Barbara Walters were absent, so there were four hosts. Rachael send she would be sending chicken soup over to Sherri, who is under the weather.

I missed a bit in between, but then they were talking about how you have to make healthier food taste good so kids will want to eat it. She suggested turkey burgers with turkey bacon. Elisabeth told her that she should open up her own fast food restaurant. Rachael suggested that you should take your spare change and use that to buy healthier food. Elisabeth said that her friend saves money buy shopping by the circular. Joy said that you can eat less, too. Elisabeth said that anorexics are doing well these days. Whoopi said that you need to check the ingredients in food. Joy said that there used to be one chubby kid in class and now the whole class is overweight. Elisabeth noted that they have gotten rid of recess and kids exercise less. Then they talked about how fun dodge ball is.

The View November 10th Recap: Hot Topics and Keith Olbermann

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Today on The View, all five hosts were present for the “Day of Hot Topics.” The first topic was the death of South African singer Miriam Makeba. She died following a performance last night. Whoopi Goldberg knew her and said that she was one of the first to bring attention to the issues in South Africa

Joy went to Vancouver to give a speech last week. At the airport, there was a guy with shifty eyes, who was sweating. The man came over to her and asked her if she was Bette Midler. Then she knew that he was not a terrorist. Then they played a clip of Joy’s appearance on Jay Leno, in which she said she doesn’t fight with Elisabeth off-stage. (It was the same clip I posted earlier)

Elisabeth’s son Taylor turned 1 year old this weekend. Grace helped her make a “dirt” cake. They had a construction theme and Joy asked if it was a dedication to Joe the Plumber. Elisabeth said that Taylor loves Chris Brown and danced to his music. She said it was the first day since his birth that was only about him because of older sister Grace.
