The View May 13, 2009 Recap: Michael Emerson, Jorge Garcia, and Cheryl Saban

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

michael-emersonToday on the May 13, 2009 episode of The View, the four main hosts were present. There was no comment on where Elisabeth Hasselbeck was yesterday. The first topic was about the Buffalo commuter plane that crashed earlier this year. There are reports that one pilot failed certification, the other was possibly too sleepy, and they were chatting about all kinds of things, per the cockpit tape. Joy Behar said that is why she asks the pilot if they are drunk and have slept and they say yes. Sherri Shepherd joked what are going to say besides that? Apparently the two pilots were talking in a flirtatious way. Sherri said that you would think their moral compass would have stopped them from flying when they were not capable. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that some of the onus needs to fall on the company and letting them fly when they are tired, etc. She said that they are going to need to make sure they don’t overextend the hours as they are cutting the budget. Whoopi said that for people like her who don’t like to fly, this is not the story you want to hear. Elisabeth said that the specific training that they would have needed would have told them how to put the nose of the plane to prevent the crash.

The View May 12, 2009 Recap: Melina Kanakaredes and Maya Rudolph

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

melina-kanakaredes.jpgToday on the May 12, 2009 version of The View, it was just four hosts, with Elisabeth Hasselbeck absent because she “has the day off.” The teaser they showed prior to the episode makes it sound like it will be a dull day. Barbara Walters was criticized on TMZ because she wore the same dress to the Time 100 Dinner that she wore to the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. Whoopi Goldberg said that she did the same thing. Barbara wore the same dress again last night to a charity event. Joy said “who cares so what,” noting she has wore the same bra for 40 years. Whoopi said that people bitch if you wear the different things every night, so you can’t win.

The View May 11th, 2009 Recap: Hot Topics with Steve Harvey and En Vogue

Monday, May 11th, 2009

day-of-hot-topicsToday on the May 11, 2009 episode of The View, the four main hosts were present. The first topic was how Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, and Sherri Shepherd went to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington DC. Whoopi said “Barack was funny” and retold one of the jokes about his daughters flying Air Force One in NYC. Elisabeth said that they are still looking for a scapegoat for that. Then they retold some other jokes. Elisabeth said his speech was funny on paper (so I guess she didn’t watch it?) Whoopi said that Wanda Sykes may have gone a step too far in telling a Rush Limbaugh joke, which they then played the clip of. Wanda joked that he was the 20th hijacker, but missed his flight because he was on oxycotin, said that because he wants the country to fail she hopes his kidneys fail and added that he needs to be water boarded. Elisabeth said that when the president laughs at a joke like that it is heading into the new McCarthyism because you cannot dissent from the government. Whoopi said that was taking it a bit too far and it was a joke. Elisabeth said that no one uses the word terrorism except to refer to conservatives. Joy wants to know what was so wrong with the joke. Elisabeth said that her job as a comedian is too make people laugh, but when the president laughs it is an endorsement. Whoopi said that he was not guffawing, but smiling. Elisabeth said that she “heard that he enjoyed the joke.” Joy joked that we should have him impeached for laughing. Elisabeth said that she is not speaking in a partisan way and had George Bush laughed at a conservative joke in the past, there would have been anger over that.

The View May 8th, 2009 recap: John Stossel, Kenneth Branagh, Leonard Nimoy, and Alyse Myers

Friday, May 8th, 2009

leonard-nimoyToday on May 8th, 2009 episode of The View, the four main hosts were present. The first topic was about how Tom the Warm-Up guy has been a Trekkie since age 12. He used to dress up as Spock for Star Trek conventions. He showed off some of his Star Trek knowledge, which is quite detailed. He said that the only people that make him star struck are Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner, the Pope, and Whoopi Goldberg (which he has had to get over since she has been on the show).

The next topic was about how kids can get birds and the bees through text messages, which I fast-forwarded through because it was boring me.

The View May 7th, 2009 Recap: Michael J. Fox and Dr. Nancy Snyderman

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

michael-j-foxToday on the May 7, 2009 episode of The View, all five hosts were present. The first topic was how a cow broke out of a slaughter house and roamed the streets of Queens. They have named her Molly and she will find a home. Barbara Walters was upset by it all and is “more and more becoming a vegetarian.” She said that she was going to take veggie burgers to Washington DC for trip for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that she and Whoopi are going to. Joy Behar pointed out that Sherri Shepherd is going too. Whoopi said that she is going to have a hamburger. Sherri said that Barbara showed her the article about the cow and then she ordered bacon and eggs for breakfast. Whoopi said that she is going to keep wearing leather, too. Sherri asked about the other cows that did not escape. Elisabeth said that they didn’t run fast enough and earn their freedom. Joy said that the cow is the Arlen Spector of the breed after running away from the party, people like him better now. Barbara said if she had a big back yard, she would let Molly live there. Whoopi said that she would have a BBQ with Molly–not as a guest.

The View May 6th, 2009 Recap: Judy Scheindlin, Justin Chambers, Biz Stone and Evan Williams

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

justinchambers.jpgToday on the May 6, 2009 episode of The View, all five hosts were on the show. The first topic was how they went to the Time 100 dinner last night. I posted pictures of the event last night, so scroll down for last night’s post to see the photos. Michelle Obama spoke at the event. Bill Geddie was Barbara’s date. They showed photos of Elisabeth and Barbara shaking Michelle Obama’s hand. There was one mention of Michelle’s great speech and four to five mentions of how great she looked (including her arms, her waist, her back, etc). Elisabeth said that she and Michelle had stress between each other during the election time and although she had a private conversation with her on the phone after the election, it was great to see her and shake her hand. She said that it was a great moment to be able to do that post-election after all that has gone on. Oprah Winfrey toasted Barbara Walters as one of the most influential people in her life.

Sherri Shepherd was the only person dancing at the event during John Legend’s singing, even though John said “get up and dance.” Sherri grabbed some man and danced with him. Joy joked that she sat next to one of the Twitter guys and he was very brief, just like tweets. She also sat by the EP of Morning Joe. Barbara was sitting next to another Twitter guy. He doesn’t have a TV set or a car. She said that he is “not very advanced” and only likes to read and not watch TV. Sherri said that Jimmy Fallon made a joke about Michelle Obama that they are making a comic book where she is a superhero and is battling her arch enemy sleeves. She said that not every laughed at it. Barbara was sitting with a young woman who is the press secretary for Michelle Obama. Barbara wonders if comics are afraid of making jokes about the President and First Lady because they are afraid of being racist. Whoopi said that people aren’t sure how to make jokes about race. Joy said that the liberal comedians had a field day with how stupid President Bush was and the right wing comics need to come up with something. She said that Chris Rock should do some jokes about the Obamas.

The View May 5th, 2009 Recap: Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump, and MVP

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

sherri-shepherd-mvpTToday on the May 5, 2009, episode of The View, all five hosts were present. The first topic was that a high school teacher taught that the bible’s version of creation was superstitious nonsense. Sherri Shepherd said that it is a respect thing and no question by a child should be stupid. Barbara Walters said that we don’t know that a child raised his hand here. Sherri said it doesn’t matter because a child may have felt stupid based on what the teacher said. Barbara said that teachers give their opinions all the time, but this is a hot button issue. Whoopi said the issue is whether the teacher has the right to give his or her opinion. Joy said that the answer to bad speech is more speech, but is not an equal relationship in a classroom, so it is not really a first amendment right. Barbara said that teachers give opinions on lots of things, but when it comes to religion it is a hot subject. (She just said the exact thing two minutes ago). Joy got fired for telling her students not to report to Vietnam.

Sherri said that if they teach Darwinism, they need to respect those who believe otherwise. Elisabeth said that religion is an important freedom that needs to be protected. Joy said that Darwinism is proven science and you should teach your children that or it is child abuse. Elisabeth said that is ridiculous and a parent is not wrong for not teaching your way. Joy said it is not her way, it is all of science’s way. Sherri will teach Jeffrey about Darwinism so he can have a conversation about it, but will tell him that she believes in creationism. Joy said that creationism should be taught in religious schools and Darwinism in public schools. Whoopi said that you should be able to learn both at once. Elisabeth said that she grew up learning both. Joy said that you cannot mix it up because it will confuse people, like teaching Swahili in a Spanish class. Barbara said it is a very hot subject. (again). She said that when astronauts go into space, they are men of science, but being in space made them believe more in their faith. Joy asked, “all of them?” Whoopi said, segueing to a commercial said that if you believe in the astronauts or space or Darwinism (sherri piped in “or child abuse!), come back after the break.

The View May 4th, 2009 Recap: James Carville, Paul Potts, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s book

Monday, May 4th, 2009

g-free-diet-elisabeth-hasselbeckToday on the May 4th, 2009 episode of The View, the four main hosts were present. Whoopi started the show saying “welcome to the damn View.” Joy Behar was very busy this weekend. She tweeted and went to a movie and a Broadway show starring Nathan Lane. Sherri Shepherd’s appearance on Smackdown aired on Friday. WWE star MVP will be on the show tomorrow. Elisabeth Hasselbeck did nothing this weekend because they were rained in. They did a lot of projects with the kids.

Kirstie Alley said on Oprah that she feels that she let people down because she gained back all the weight she lost on Jenny Craig. Sherri said that when you go public with struggles like that, it puts a lot of pressure on you. Joy said that she lost 30 when she was on Jenny Craig and gained about 15 back over 4 years. Elisabeth said that there is a huge social scale and people are waiting to take a picture to put next to another one. Sherri said that Kirstie is in a vicious circle because she wants to lose all the weight again by November. Whoopi lost 46 pounds and gained 22 pounds back. Joy said that if you have gained 70 pounds, you have to ask yourself what hole you are trying to feel emotionally. Sherri said that even at 20 pounds overweight you have to ask yourself why you do that and why you are digging that potato chip bag out of the trash. Whoopi then said, very oddly, that Sherri is not serious and that is just one of those things that she says that is a joke, because she has kids in the house and would not do that. Joy asked her if she is saying that to all the kids watching? Whoopi said, “She’s knows who I am talking to.” Sherri had a sheepish look on her face, but did not say anything.

The View April 30th, 2009 Recap: Real Life Hot Topics

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

day-of-hot-topicsToday on the April 30, 2009 episode of The View, it a “day of real life hot topics.” The teaser at the beginning of the show promises a man who helps people cheat on their spouses and a man who was cleared of a crime by DNA after many years in prison. I wonder which will go first and which will get more airtime?

Whoopi Goldberg was back on the show, but Sherri Shepherd was absent. I don’t think they even mentioned she was gone, unless I missed it. Whoopi thought she had the swine flu, but she didn’t have it. She had a bad cold. Barbara Walters said that they deliberately did not mention where Whoopi was because they did not want people to freak out. Elisabeth Hasselbeck thanked her because part of the reason she stayed away was because she was worried about Elisabeth’s unborn baby, according to Whoopi‘s friend Tommy who Elisabeth talked to.

Whoopi asked whether we (as a nation) are overreacting about the swine flu. Barbara said that so far in this country the cases are mild. Elisabeth said that like any flu certain people are more susceptible. Barbara thought that Vice President’s Biden’s comments this morning were irresponsible where he said he would tell his family not to fly or ride the subway. Joy said that he doesn’t remember that he is the VP sometimes and doesn’t realize the weight to his statements. Elisabeth said that he has made mistakes again and again and Biden’s comments can cause nothing but panic. Barbara pointed out that President Obama was very calm about it when he spoke about it last night at the press conference. Elisabeth agreed that President Obama’s comments were much better and gave good advice.

The View April 29th, 2009 Recap: Marlee Matlin

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

harold-perrineau-daughterToday on The View the scheduled guest was supposed to be Harold Perrineau (ABC’s The Unusuals). However, I just checked the schedule and it now says: Marlee Matlin (author, I’ll Scream Later); How to lose 5 pounds on fast food with Keri Glassman. I love this picture I found of Harold and his daughter, though, so I am leaving it up.
***
Today on the April 29, 2009, episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg was “off” again today. Joy Behar said that everyone needs a day off once in awhile.

Sherri Shepherd went to the WWE last night and hung out with MVP and “got to know each other a little bit better.” He is single and has a good job, which makes her not worry about his credit score. I saw pictures of her online that I will post a little bit later today where she was in the ring and smacking MVP’s opponent. I am not sure if that was a rehearsal or if the Friday WWE show is taped? Sorry I know nothing about WWE and how that works.

The View April 28th, 2009 Recap: Emily Deschanel and Kim Kardashian

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

emilydeschanel.jpgToday on the April 28, 2009, episode of The View, Barbara Walters had returned, but Whoopi Goldberg was absent because she has “the day off.” Yet, Barbara did not know that she would be on today. (?) Barbara just got in from Argentina at 8:30 a.m. this morning and her phone was ringing while she was in customs to tell her she had to come on the show. Sherri Shepherd liked her shirt that she got in Argentina and called her a “sexy house peasant.” Barbara is so tired that she tried to talk into the phone in her dressing room and then realized that it was her coffee cup. Then Barbara showed some photos from her trip, including Barbara doing the tango. At the Peru airport the attendants were all wearing masks.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck wanted to “rant” about a woman who was in an Australian beauty contestant who people want disqualified because she is too thin, but says that she is not anorexic. Elisabeth said that people have hatred for her based on envy and people should have sympathy for her if she is anorexic. Sherri said that is a cultural thing. Barbara said that people are worried to praise her, because what affect would that have on the young girls. Joy said that people are jealous of thin girls, because that is the cultural ideal. She said that in another culture where they are starving, they would praise a larger woman. Sherri said that then when there is a curvaceous woman like Kim Kardashian she is criticized for being too curvy.

The View April 27th, 2009 Recap: Day of Hot Topics

Monday, April 27th, 2009

day-of-hot-topicsToday on April 27, 2009 on The View, it is another day of hot topics with the four main hosts. Sherri Shepherd came out wearing a face mask. Dr. Mehmet Oz will be on the show later to talk about swine flu. Then Sherri took her mask off. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that schools are telling parents to keep kids home if they are showing symptoms. Joy said Dr. Ruth said that that sneezing is an orgasm. Sherri said that at some point sneezing become accidentally peeing a little. Elisabeth said that she is at that point now.

Elisabeth went to a wedding over the weekend and the plane ride home was very turbulent and Grace got motion sickness. Some nice teenagers in front of them gave them extra barf bags and were very helpful.
