Barbara Walters on The Oprah Winfrey Show

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

barbara-walters-oprah-winfrey.jpg

Barbara Walters appeared in a taped broadcast on The Oprah Winfrey Show today. She talked a lot about The View, as well as her affair with Senator Brooke, and her family. I will also post video of the interview if it becomes available.

* Barbara named her book Audition because she feels that she has been auditioning her whole life. She feel that she didn’t belong as a child and has been auditioning throughout her professional life.

* The View is a “very happy place” and she looks forward to doing it. The first 9 years were also happy. Then Meredith Viera announced that she was leaving and then Star Jones started to change.

* Star Jones decided not to tell people about her gastric bypass surgery and they had to sit on the show as she lied and said it was portion control and pilates. Barbara went along with the lies because Star was her colleague and she honored her wish.

* Star wanted the most extravagant wedding and so she promoted the items on the show to get them free. Barbara said “we made a big mistake” by allowing her to do the promotion. She and Bill Geddie put a stop to it, so Star went on other shows.

Video of Rosie O’Donnell on The Today Show

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Somehow I completely forgot to watch Rosie O’Donnell on The Today Show today. I was able to find a couple clips of her appearance, although I don’t think this is all of it. There is also an additional video of the craft segment here. In the interview segment she talks about Reverend Wright and responds to Barbara Walters’ comment that she has a lot of rage.

Rosie O’Donnell’s Crafty U: A Review

Monday, May 5th, 2008

cimg1348.JPG

Rosie O’Donnell’s new craft book Crafty U was designed as a way for children and their parents to work on something fun and creative together, as an alternative to watching television or playing video games. At first glance, the book is a visual stunner, with beautiful photographs of the crafts that are art themselves. Initially I was a little intimidated by the crafts because they looked so perfect. However, I heard Rosie say in an interview that the crafts in the photographs were done by professionals and that, in the end, it is the process of having fun and not how the crafts that is important.

With that in mind, I decided to tackle three crafts from the book. Although the idea of the book is to craft with your children, I didn’t have any available. I tried to talk my cats into crafting with me, but they wanted to sleep in the sun instead. As a result, I made my attempts on my own, with varying success. The most important thing, though, is even the crafts that did not come out as well were still a lot of fun to make.

Video of Rosie O’Donnell on Comedy Central

Monday, April 14th, 2008

UPDATE: I found the whole routine (in two parts). It appears below.

I found this video clip which is only part of Rosie O’Donnell’s stand-up routine from last night’s Comedy Central autism benefit “Night of Too Many Stars.” If I find the full routine elsewhere, I will post it.

Rosie O’Donnell to appear on Comedy Central Sunday

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

autism-speaks1.jpgRosie O’Donnell will appear on Comedy Central’s “Night of Too Many Stars,” a live broadcast on Sunday April 13th at 8:00pm central on Comedy Central. The special, hosted by The Daily Show host Jon Stewart, is a benefit for autism awareness. The special jokingly bills itself as “an overbooked concert for autism awareness.” Viewers are encouraged to donate and money raised goes to the New York Center for Autism, as well as Autism Speaks which is an organization “dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention and treatments for autism.” The organization raises awareness for autism and urges private and government action to address the issue.

Rosie has revealed several times in the past that autism awareness is an issue very close to her, even lobbying to get an entire episode of The View designated to the topic of autism. On her blog she has mentioned that she has friends whose children have autism, which in addition to her overall desire to help the causes of children, fuels her fight for this cause. At one point she also expressed an interest in doing a week-long set of specials on autism with Jenny McCarthy, but so far this has not come into fruition.

In addition to Rosie O’Donnell, other performers scheduled to appear are Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Susie Essman, Will Ferrell, Conan O’Brien, and Tina Fey. For the full list of scheduled performers or to donate to this worthy cause visit the Night of Too Many Stars website.

Thanks to Stacee for the heads up about this event!

Rosie O’Donnell on Martha Stewart Show

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

rosie-shoes.jpgRosie O’Donnell continued her publicity campaign for her book Crafty U on The Martha Stewart Show today. They talked about a wide variety of topics from the wonderful grilled cheese Rosie was given to eat backstage, their experiences on Celebrity Jeopardy! (they both won in the past), and, of course, crafts.

They did two crafts from Rosie’s new book. First they decorated sneakers and then they made artwork out of beans. On display were some bean art pictures of donkeys and they talked about how Martha now has three donkeys.

It got a little uncomfortable at one point when Martha obviously wanted Rosie to stop talking about her time “in the clink.” Martha did bring it up referring to “when I was in Alderson,” making it sound like a place she had visited, but I don’t think she wanted an extended chat on her time in prison. Rosie said on her video blog this morning that Martha responds better when people treat her like a regular person, which was clearly what Rosie was trying to do.

Martha mentioned a few things that Rosie should try, like going to Maine to see Beluga whales. Rosie said that she should call her because she isn’t busy and “hasn’t worked since 2002 except for The View, tick a lock, let’s not talk about that.” She echoed her sentiments from this morning on Good Morning America that she does better when she is the boss. She also added that at The View “there was a little Republican who scared me.”

I will post a video if one become available.

Video of Rosie O’Donnell on Good Morning America

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Rosie O’Donnell on Good Morning America

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

rosie-odonnell-kelli-odonnell-little-mermaid.jpgRosie O’Donnell appeared on Good Morning America this morning in support of her new book Crafty U, which is a book of crafts for families to do together.

Diane Sawyer asked her about The View and whether she has any regrets. Rosie said that it was a trial period, to see if she could back in the big wave of fame and she almost made it to the end. Diane asked if her if she is more in control now, which I thought was a strange question, as though she is so volatile all the time. Rosie said that things might get heated if they talk about the current political situation. She said that things were different when she had her own show because she had no one to give a countering viewpoint and she was the boss of everyone. She joked, “which, frankly, for me works well.”

Rosie said that she occasionally watches The View, and will watch the clips on YouTube when something big happens. She e-mailed Elisabeth Hasselbeck after she had her baby, but Elisabeth doesn’t email back often, but does so occasionally. Rosie said that Elisabeth is young and her world is much more black and white. Rosie said that things will be different when she, like Rosie, has gray hair all over.

View hosts past and present out on the town

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

I haven’t been checking the celebrity photo site lately to keep track of what public events The View hosts have been attending. A quick look today and I found several new photos of past and present hosts to share with all you. Sherri Shepherd is the only current host who didn’t have any events photos available, most likely because she has been too sick to be going out lately.

Rosie O’Donnell and wife Kelli attended Spamalot, which features Clay Aiken. On her blog, Rosie said that she loved the show and thought that Clay did a great job.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck and husband Tim attended the JCPennys American Living Launch Party last month.
