Elisabeth Hasselbeck introduced Todd Palin at luncheon

by Winnie McCarthy

As I wrote previously, Elisabeth Hasselbeck is at the Republican National Convention today to host a luncheon for Cindy McCain, which was called “A Tribute to Cindy McCain.” According to ABC News, Todd Palin, husband of VP candidate Sarah Palin, spoke briefly at the luncheon.

Elisabeth introduced Cindy McCain and Todd Palin as “the next First Lady and future first Second Man.” She also reportedly told Todd Palin, “You better get your game face on because America fell in love with your wife last night.”

More information on his remarks here. I will post pictures of Elisabeth at the event if any become available. (Be sure to let me know if you see photos or video of her at the event anywhere!) EDITED TO ADD: I found video of the event on the C-SPAN website. I have posted it here: Video of Elisabeth Hasselbeck MC’s Cindy McCain Luncheon.

I really, really wish that Elisabeth would stop being so arrogant as to assume that she speaks for America. She does not know what all of America is thinking. In fact America’s reaction seems to be rather split on Palin, some thinking she was great and other’s who are disgusting by Palin.

I could even overlook this if it was a one time occurence, but she tries to speak for America - and particularly middle America - a lot. Get it through your thick head Elisabeth: You do not speak for me. And you do not speak for America. Stick to speaking about your own opinions please, and stop trying to lay claim to what America thinks and feels.

  3. maryn48 Says:

    Sarah,
Do you really think that EH is the only one of the women on The View who is “trying to lay claim to what America thinks and feels”? Apparently you only ‘agree’ with the other ladies without listening to what they really say. EH is not the only one blessed with a healthy dose of arrogance on the show, but she is the one ganged up on time and time again.

  4. Sapphire Says:

Elisabeth is not only the worst interviewer, she is the worst speaker and she needs to stop butting into these functions. She is enough to make many people turn against McCain!

Her remarks are not cute, clever or witty and that voice of hers grates on one’s last nerve.

  5. Dee Says:

She is an excellent example of what has happened to the Republican party…sadly:(

  6. MiamiVision Says:

EH is nothing more than an immature attention-seeking hound……..she wants *press* - even bad press - as long as she stays in the news….GAG

  7. Moe Says:

I just want her to get the hell out of the View. Cant stand her arrogance, lack of judgement, her unfairness especially when it comes to the democrat. She can criticize every democrat but non of the republicans. Also she was going on about Edwards having an affair.

News flash elizabeth, Mccain had an affair with his first wife thus that broke their marriage…So Elizabeth get your facts and stop being so bitchy… Just cant stand her.

  8. Sarah Says:

maryn48: First of all, you are making an awful lot of presumptions in your post. The first assumption being that I agree with all the other women on The View - which I do not. The second that I am not listening to what they say. You don’t know me, and you know nothing about what I listen to when I watch The View.

Secondly, I’m trying to remember ever hearing the other women on The View saying “middle America agrees with me” - or feel free to fill in the middle part with any other part of America. They stand up and express their opinions, and sometimes I agree with them and sometimes I don’t, but I’ve never heard them hide behind America’s opinion.

And before you respond to my posts it might be helpful to actually read what I said. I didn’t not say EH is the only arrogant person on The View. I said she was arrogant enough to think she can speak for America. There is a difference between those two statements. Had we been discussing arrogance in general then there are few other names I would have added to the list. But since I wasn’t, your criticism of my post doesn’t really make sense.

  9. maryn48 Says:

    Dear Sarah,
I was merely wondering why you focused only on EH because I HAVE heard some of the other ladies make very generalized statements about what America (or the world) thinks and believes. If they did not anger you as much as EH then I assumed you agreed with them. Sorry, my mistake. And you’re right–just because you quote only one person doesn’t mean you haven’t heard or listened to the others. (So do two presumptions qualify as ‘an awful lot’?)

As to your second point, I can’t help you with whether you can remember if any of the other women have said “middle America agrees with me”. I don’t have perfect recall on everything that is said on the show. And, I’m not presuming that you do.

And…if you read my post thoroughly or actually read it, you will note I did not say that you said EH was the ONLY arrogant person; I said that she wasn’t the only one. Big difference. And that was my own opinion about the View. (Could it be that you were too quick with your own presumption about what you ‘thought’ I meant?) So your last paragraph doesn’t make any sense and is not relevant.

And, changing the topic–but since this is my post, I think I can do that–liberal spewing can be just as caustic and abrasive as conservative blather. And I will stick to what I originally said–EH is ganged up on time and time again.

  10. Janice Says:

Elisabeth Hasslebitch strikes again. While speaking at the luncheon, she takes a swing at Michelle Obama which was completely uncalled for and blatantly shows her immaturity. In her world, there is no wrong with anyone who is a Republican. LOL! She is an uppidity snottly dumb broad who basically get her ideas from Faux News. If she is fired from the View, I would not be surprised. That was just dumb and clearly shows her hate and desparation. Fake ass!! Sarah Palin has a photo of her on the web wearing ho heels, and a very mini skirt. (I believe the website is claycane.com) This photo doesn’t appear to be a fake…..not at all. I wish I could send that in to The View. Elisabeth went too far this time. Her ignorance and arrogance has caused her to put her foot in her ever so large mouth again. I could not stand her politically. ( I am an independent)But, I basically saw her as a nice young lady nonetheless. Now, I have lost what respect I did have for her. She went too far and, again, her actions were uncalled for.

  11. rainlillie Says:

“EH is ganged up on time and time again.”

For the life of me, I don’t understand how anyone can defend such a vile person. Doesn’t it bother you that she supports torture or that she supported this criminal administration? A senate report found that we were lied into this war. She knows that and continues to follow them blindly.

What would you suggest that people who disagree with her do, keep quiet? She may be cute and perky, but she’s not a person of good character. I’m going to use an analogy like her PB&J… Ted Budny was cute too, that doesn’t mean that he wasn’t a serial killer.

  12. maryn48 Says:

It is a bit extreme to label her as a vile person. Is everyone who supports this administration considered vile?

I haven’t finished reading the Senate report, so I’m delaying my own conclusions about whether we were ‘lied’ into the war.

I would never suggest keep quiet, but would suggest have a courteous discourse. And, puh-lease, it isn’t necessary to respond that she is ‘rude, snide, and all those other adjectives’ so she gets what she deserves. Joy Behar is so rude, snide, and snarly sometimes, it makes me want to spit nails. And her frequent flippant, off topic remarks (just when the discussion is going good) are really irritating. But all this doesn’t mean that I’m a big fan of or dislike either JB or EH. I want to HEAR what they have to say. Hearing and evaluating other people’s points of view help me to clarify and redefine my own thinking.

And the cute and perky/good character analogy is an insult to my intelligence. (I’m assuming it is directed to me. If not, I’ll ignore it.) Isn’t that a bit like saying “Oh you’re a liberal, then you must be pro-choice, therefore you must be a baby killer?”

All this to say there are many layers to everyone. I would welcome another conservative Republican at the View table just to even out the discussions. EH is no match by herself to the older ladies.

FYI, I’m not a registered Repub. I’m just an adjunct instructor for a mid-size university doing preps, research and a little footwork for a course I’m going to teach. And the course has nothing to do with politics!!

  13. rainlillie Says:

    maryn48,
Yes she is vile person. She supports the torture of other human beings. Just like she sat there when Ms. Kennedy was on the view and made excuses for the use of torture, you’re making excuses for her.

You’ve insulted my intelligence by telling me you haven’t read the report yet. The senate found that Bush and his cohorts lied. Here’s a short summary that may save you some reading…”WASHINGTON — President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and other top officials promoted the invasion of Iraq with public statements that weren’t supported by intelligence or that concealed differences among intelligence agencies, the Senate Intelligence Committee said on Thursday.”
    http://www.mcclatchydc.com/244/story/39963.html

Yes I’m a liberal and pro-choice. Having an abortion is not killing a baby. Abortion is a legal act and killing a baby is illegal .

    FYI, I’m not a Democrat, I’m a Independent.

  14. maryn48 Says:

I have downloaded the full report. It’s on my desktop now, but it is rather lengthy. I already read the short summary which led me to getting the report. I know it’s weird, but I read things like that.

I didn’t imply that YOU were pro-choice. It was only an analogy. I’m pro-choice also, but that’s not the point. My point is that you cannot deny that for some people life begins at conception and aborting a fetus is torture and killing of a human being. I respect those views. What I don’t like is for a pro-life person to say they are against abortion except in cases of rape or incest, etc. What that says to me is that I can decide when I can have an abortion and I can also decide when you can’t have one. And on the other side to pro-choice–I don’t want funding of abortions as a form of birth control. There are no easy answers. And you’re definitely not to going to like what I say next. I was glad when Palin stated she did not believe in abortion even in the cases of rape and incest. I liked that much better than if she had qualified it ‘except in certain cases.’ This let me know where she stood and now I have to listen to what she says she is going to do about it.

I really didn’t want this post to be about pro-choice vs pro-life. I am pro-choice and that’s enough said. My point is that for some people this is an emotional and sacred issue. Labeling EH a vile person because she supports torture is wrong because, if I’m not mistaken, she is pro-life. What I might say is, ‘EH, think about this. Can you really be both? Explain this to me.’

One more thing and then I’ll stop. Using the legal act to defend your beliefs is not valid. It will only keep you out of jail. Once upon a time, in this country, it was legal for blacks to be considered 3/5 a human, to deny women/blacks the right to vote, to deny women freedom of choice. It was legal, but that didn’t make it right.

Sorry, one more thing. I voted Independent once. His name was Ross Perot!

  15. rainlillie Says:

It doesn’t matter when they think life begins. Abortion is legal and murder isn’t. The rest is irrelevant to me.

Only a sick ,twisted person would force a rape victim to carry her rapist baby to term.

Anyone who supports torture is a vile human being.

  16. Nellie Says:

There needs to be integrity in the media. That is what the other hosts bring to the table. EH tells blatant lies and spouts rhetoric fed to her by the Republican Party.

Everyone is entitled to their viewpoint, but should it not be presented with hard facts? By being in the media EH is obligated to be honest.

“Integrity is what we do, what we say, and what we say we do”

    Don Galer

  17. Sarah Says:

maryn48: If you merely wondered why I only focused on EH, then why didn’t you just ask that instead of implying that I agree with the others.

In answer to the question of why I only mentioned EH, because this post is about EH and her statement. Had this been a post about the entire cast of The View, and had I actually witnessed one of the other members of The View saying “Middle America agrees with me” then I would have commented on that too. If you want to know why I say something all you have to do is ask. But instead you jumped to conclusions.

And no, you did not say that I said EH was the only arrogant one. What you said was that I agree with the others without even listenting to what they said. So it still appears as if you’re implying I said things in my post that I never said. If you want to debate subjects then fine, I’ll debate. But there’s no point in doing that if you’re going to try to put words in my mouth.

  18. Lajet Says:

PRIOR POST: FYI, I’m not a registered Repub. I’m just an adjunct instructor for a mid-size university doing preps, research and a little footwork for a course I’m going to teach. And the course has nothing to do with politics!!

RESPONSE: It is possible this is true, but I don’t believe it. I may be wrong, but what you describe isn’t consistent to me. You can repeat it a million times, and I doubt I’ll change my mind. Maybe if your posts changed in their tenor I might believe it, but thus far you just don’t come across as an informed, thoughtful, unbiased college level instructor.

PRIOR POST: It is a bit extreme to label her as a vile person.

RESPONSE: Why? How do you define vile?

PRIOR PSOT: I haven’t finished reading the Senate report, so I’m delaying my own conclusions about whether we were ‘lied’ into the war.

RESPONSE: That’s your choice. A choice I can understand. But it shouldn’t stop others from asserting their understanding of the contents and arguing from the report. Nor doesn’t it have one iota of relevance to the point being made. You can argue you don’t think we were lied into a war, but your ignorance is not grounds for stopping discussion or assertions about whether we were lied into a war.

  19. maryn48 Says:

Prior Post: It is possible this is true, but I don’t believe it. I may be wrong, but what you describe isn’t consistent to me. You can repeat it a million times, and I doubt I’ll change my mind.
    Response: It’s true.

Prior Post: You can argue you don’t think we were lied into a war, but your ignorance is not grounds for stopping discussion or assertions about whether we were lied into a war.
Response: Where did I imply, state, or suggest that my ignorance should stop any discussion? And where did I argue about being lied into a war? Don’t twist words. Stating that I wanted to read the report first was something I thought an “informed, thoughtful, unbiased college level instructor” would do.

Prior Post: Why? How do you define vile?
Response: Carolyn’s Post from another blog….carolyn Says:
Now I have read that Sarah Palin’s son is going to Iraq as an alternative to jail for cutting the brakes on a school bus.

To besmirch the name of a young man by spreading an unsubstantiated rumor because you don’t like his mom, is a vile thing to do.

  20. maryn48 Says:

Sorry about the comma in the last sentence. It’s late and I was rushing.
