-Does anyone else have trouble reconciling this with the person who said Playboys are bad because they lead to improper thoughts (something like that) and her husband wouldn’t read them either (I’m sure that went over well for Tim in the locker room the next day). (Note: I’m not even arguing EH is wrong on her position on Playboys, just that it seems incongruous with this photo shoot.)
-Does she look to you like she is celebrating the human body, or that she has a “come hither” look (or attempt at a reasonable facsimile thereof). Is that consistent with her previous pontifications?
I can think of more questions, but I’ll stop. I’m probably showing my age once again.

I don’t associate that magazine cover with a Playboy style. To me, it just looks more like she’s ready to play beach volleyball or have some fun in the sun. There isn’t anything risque about it when I look at it.
I think women have been slutted out so much in the movies and media that people associate showing skin with sex and sleaze whenever they see it and it’s sad we’ve come to that. That’s just my opinion.
What I don’t like about it is the big lose the baby weight theme that the media loves. Let women be women, let them enjoy becoming a mother and the whole beautiful process without stressing and obsessing on immediately getting the baby wait off and that if they don’t take extreme measures they’ll be looked down upon because so and so was able to.

PRIOR POST: I don’t associate that magazine cover with a Playboy style.
RESPONSE: I sort of agree with you, and I’m not sure if I was clear on what I meant. I don’t think it is an indecent picture, or pornography, or anything like that. It certainly isn’t a Playboy material. I’m fairly certain if I showed the picture to my brother, his thoughts would be closer to those that are evoked by looking/oogling at beautiful women than they would be to relax wtih the sense of playing on the beach. She doesn’t look like she is ready to relax in the sand. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It just seems incongruous to me with what she spouts about morality and women’s images and proper thoughts.

RESPOSNE: Maybe that’s what I was thinking too. She’s talked so much about healthy body images. Doing a photo shoot in a bikini advertising how you lost baby weight by exercising like an NFL player in training doesn’t seem congruous either.

–”I can think of more questions, but I’ll stop.”
Well I’d like to know what they are, Lajet. I enjoy your questions and musings very much.
–”I’m probably showing my age once again.”
Nothing wrong with that. In fact it’s a good thing.
– “She’s talked so much about healthy body images. Doing a photo shoot in a bikini advertising how you lost baby weight by exercising like an NFL player in training doesn’t seem congruous either.”
I tend to agree about the incongruity. If she hadn’t been so wall-eyed about Playboy (as I remember her being), maybe it wouldn’t have been so apparent.
I wonder how her die-hard fans can keep from being irritated with her about the “NFL training” to lose baby weight. Most women don’t have the means (time or money) to do that, so I wonder if they are rolling their eyes at her.

Well I’m not a die hard fan of Elisabeth, but I do like her, as in, she’s okay, I don’t have a problem with her.
so from my prospective,
I like the cover photo. It fits, the Fitness magazine. She does look healthy and fit, and ready for some beach fun.
I also though, do not like, that it portrays that you should worry about loosing that baby weight. I agree wholeheartedly with what ShannonP, expressed, let women enjoy the whole becoming a mother process, without stressing about loosing the baby weight. Enjoy their babies, without worrying all the time about loosing the weight.
As far as her having a trainer to help with loosing the weight, I’m not irritated at all with her. I think she also had the trainer because she knew she was going to do this cover shoot.
However I DO understand your point.
As for Playboy, I didn’t see the show where Elisabeth talked about that. i have read some comments on here pertaining to that.
I’m not a fan of Playboy, or other magazines like that either. Not so much to do with morality, but My opinion is that they exploit women, and I don’t like that.

“As far as her having a trainer to help with loosing the weight, I’m not irritated at all with her. I think she also had the trainer because she knew she was going to do this cover shoot.”
Sandy, the women who would surely be irritated would be the ones who buy that magazine with that headline that makes it sound like EH is going to give consumers tips on losing weight like she did, using exercise rather than dieting. But that’s not the truth, is it? The TRUE story is that SHE lost the weight because of not just a trainer (which a lot of women can’t afford) but the kind of ultra heavy-duty intense training only a celebrity or wealthy person does to prepare for a magazine photo shoot. That’s misleading. So my question is that maybe even her die-hard fans, the ones who like her much more than you are saying you do, will be irritated at not getting honest information.
I wonder why she’d pose on that cover, since she’s not really giving regular women truthful advice that helps them. My guess is that she is simply showing off. What else could the reason be?

# 6 Shelley,
Oh I understand the point you were making, and I wasn’t necessarily disagreeing with you. I did say that I understood the point you were making.
I hope that did disclose in the article that she had training and what type.
Actually though, as far as her die-hard fans, I have doubts that they would be irritated with her. Big fans tend to some times overlook things.
My guess is she did the cover because she was ask, wanted to, and yes, I’m sure there was some pride, or maybe showing off too. She is a celebrity, and I’m sure wants all the coverage she can get. Money too may have been an issue. Heck if I were her, I think I’d have done it too.
But I’m not her, thank goodness. I wouldn’t want to be.

“Heck if I were her, I think I’d have done it too.”
Somehow I doubt you would do something that deceitful, Sandy.
Even if the mag told the entire story, readers who buy it based on the cover & headline are thinking they’re going to learn how to do things the way she did it. I guess she loved the media exposure and money too much to worry about how deceitful this was to ordinary people who buy that magazine.
“Actually though, as far as her die-hard fans, I have doubts that they would be irritated with her. Big fans tend to some times overlook things.”
Maybe they overlook things that don’t affect their own lives. I’m sure it must depend on the celeb and each individual situation. Maybe they would not overlook deceit like this. I guess if they’re like you and are only reading it for information about her instead of how to get help for themselves, they would be as easy-going as you are about it.
I think a lot less of her than you do, so we’re coming at this from very different perspectives.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:08 am
Why would anyone think less of her for working hard to be healthy and talking about how she did it? Not inspiring?
May 12th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
First of all, lets not forget her “diet” is regulated by Crohn’s disease or whatever she has, thats not normal. Working out like an athlete is not normal and everyone knows by now that no matter how good you look the computers improve a lot on magazine covers. So before we let her set the bar too high for all new Moms, lets get real. Not everyone can achieve that figure even with a healthy diet and a normal amount of exercise. She is what she is and other people are what they are it doesn’t make anyone better than anyone else just because they lost the “baby weight”.

# 8 Shelley,
I agree, I think we do have different perspectives.

Absolutely!! I myself don’t feel that there should even be that big of an emphasis on it. (loosing the baby weight).
May 12th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
I’m not a fan, but it’s a nice picture. We must also remember that she is naturally thin and it is easier I think for people who are naturally thin to drop the baby weight. At least it was for me. I gained 40 pounds with my second child and it took a few months for me to go back to my normal size. There are a ton of people working on these celebrities when they do photo shoots, hair, make up and I’m sure any flaws she had were airbrushed out.
