Feb 19 Recap: Reaction to Britney Spears and “Hero” Jack Coleman
Rosie O’Donnell was not on today’s episode, because she is on the R Family Vacation in the Caribbean. Sherri Shepherd filled in as guest host.
The first hot topic was the head-shaving antics of Britney Spears. As I posted previously, Rosie already weighed in on the matter on her blog, expressing sadness for Britney and repeating her offer of stepping in to help Britney.
On today’s show, Joy Behar called Britney “poor girl,” and said that she is “out of control” and “pathologically sick.” Joy suggested that the head-shaving incident was a form of self-mutilation and said that Britney needed therapy to deal with whatever trauma she has had in her past.
Barbara Walters said Britney is “disturbed in many ways” and fears that her actions may be an example to young girls, who will copy her actions.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck chimed in, saying that, for a woman, cutting your hair is cathartic. Elisabeth said that sometimes when she is stressed out, she feels like shaving her head. She thinks maybe Britney saw the head-shaving as a fresh start for her, but that it was also an extreme cry for help. Elisabeth added that maybe Britney shaved her head so that she could feel like she was in control of something. Sherri Shepherd added that she hoped that K-fed was not the one taking care of the babies.
Jack Coleman, who stars as HRG on Heroes appeared on the show. He revealed that he is a sixth generation descendant of Ben Franklin. Jack also said that he has a daughter who 7-years-old. He said that although he is “not a gun person,” when she is 14 or 15 years old and dating, he might have to get the shotgun ready. His character on Heroes, HRG, is so named for his horn-rimmed glasses. He said that the first time he put the glasses on and looked in the mirror, he said, “Dad?” Below is a picture of Jack in character and a picture of his dad, which shows the striking resemblance.

When asked if HRG is good or bad, Jack responded “a little bit of both.” He revealed that in an upcoming episode, a series of flashbacks will reveal the origin and history of his character. He said that there are no plans to kill off his character that he knows of, but later added “not just yet.” Jack was embarrassed when they showed a clip of his role as Steven Carrington on Dynasty in the 1980s. Here is a picture of him when he appeared on that show. For more on HRG and the rest of the Heroes cast, visit Watching Heroes.

[...] Make sure to go and read the whole thing in case you missed the view (I did! DOH!). I thought it was pretty cool to find out that Jack is a 6th generation descendant of Ben Fanklin. [...]
