Feb 6th Recap: Yunjin Kim from Lost

by Winnie McCarthy

In hot topics, the women discussed a photo shoot done by potential presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani and his wife for Harper’s Bazaar. The pictures show them passionately embracing. His current wife was at one point “the other woman,” who caused an end to his previous marriage. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that the pictures are risky for a politician and Joy Behar added that it might not sit well with the “family values crowd,” who the republicans need to support Giuliani.

They also discussed the Snickers candy advertisement that aired during the super bowl. It showed two men accidentally kiss and then rip out their chest hair because they needed to “do something manly.” The advertisement has now been pulled after GLAAD complained that it was anti-gay. One of the main problems, according to GLAAD, was the clips on the Snickers website, which showed several football players’ negative reactions to the men kissing. According to Rosie, the clips have also been pulled from the website. Rosie said that when she saw the ad, her initial thought was “there’s going to be a lawsuit,” but she did not say anything on the show yesterday when they played the commercial because she is “sick of being the gay police.”

Yunjin Kim, star of television’s Lost, appeared on the show to talk about the show’s return to the air Wednesday, after a long hiatus. Yunjin, who was born in Korea and came to the United States at the age of 10, says that she considered changing her first name at one point, but was told to concentrate on being a good actress and then people would learn her name. Yunjin, who has been called the “Korean Julia Roberts,” says that her mother actually liked her sexy photo spread in Stuff magazine, because she never gets to show that side of herself on Lost. She was unable to give any insight into who is the father of her character’s baby, because she said she does not even know yet! She also added that the slow rate at which time passes on the show means that her character will probably not even be showing her pregnancy until season five. For more on Lost, visit Watching Lost.

Jackie Earle Haley, former child actor and current Oscar nominee for best supporting actor for Little Children appeared on the show. His character in the film is a convicted sex offender who has to live in the community and deal with his obsessions and urges. The movie deals with his character’s relationship with his mother and her unending support of him, despite his faults. Jackie said that in order play the role, he focused on his real-life brother’s relationship with their mother. His brother was a heroin addict for many years before dying of an overdose. He said that, through it all, his mother gave his brother unconditional love. He drew on that to play the role.
