February 12th Recap: Anna Nicole Smith’s Death and Eva Longoria

by

Rosie O’Donnell responded to claims that she was exploiting Anna Nicole Smith on last Thursday’s show, just hours before her death. Rosie said that her point was that she did not want to see Anna Nicole disintegrate before her eyes and wanted to know whether someone had culpability for her decline. Rosie said that Anna Nicole was obviously in distress and in a “severe state.” Rosie said that she was “being propped on all these shows” in that state, often paid for the interviews on shows like Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight. She said that everyone was just watching the train wreck and the producers of shows did not take any responsibility when Anna Nicole was obviously stoned, unable to stand, and unable to speak, but rather chose to put her on television anyway.

Rosie said that she left her last show because she thought the fame was becoming like a drug. She said that fame is similar to the Macy’s Day Parade balloons. The balloons have 200 people with tethers to help move them along and prevent injury. If you are famous and you don’t have any “tethers” in your life, you will be out of control and harm yourself or others. She said that maybe Anna Nicole did not have any tethers in her life and no one who loved her enough to save her from her addictions. She added, though, that not everyone can be saved from their addictions.

The Dixie Chicks won numerous Grammy Awards Sunday night for their song “Not Ready to Make Nice.” Barbara Walters thinks that the awards were not just for the music, but that the voters were saying that they agree with the stand the Chicks took. The song is about the aftermath of Natalie Maines’s comment that the Chicks were embarrassed to be from the same state as President Bush. After the comment, their songs were no longer played on country radio and people publicly burned their CDs. Elisabeth Hasselbeck thinks it is more about their music and talent than about the voters backing their message.

evalongoria.jpgEva Longoria, star of Desperate Housewives, was on the show and said that her wedding plans to NBA star Tony Parker are going well. She likes the process of wedding planning because everyone is so congratulatory and she joked that she wants to stay engaged forever. She said that she and Tony will be living in San Antonio. Barbara Walters asked Eva “do you still skin cats?” Eva was very taken aback and said “I never skinned a cat!” Apparently Barbara was referring to the fact that Eva grew up on a ranch and has skinned deer in the past.

Eva said that, unlike her character, she looks forward to growing older and said that “every wrinkle tells a story.” Her character has a new love interest coming up on the show, played by former Sex and the City actor John Slattery. Eva also revealed that her character will get back to her ex-husband Carlos, but not until next season. She also said that because Marcia Cross is on bedrest because she is pregnant with twins, the producers rebuilt the set for her inside her own house. Eva said that if she knew that were possible, she would just stay home to work. For more on Eva, Marcia and the rest of the cast, visit Watching Desperate Housewives.

[...] Eva Longoria on “The View” February 13th, 2007 by Marilyn Porter In case you missed it, Eva Longoria was on “The View” yesterday morning. While she was there, she talked about her wedding to Tony Parker and how much she enjoys being engaged. In fact, if she had her wish, she would be engaged forever because she is loving all the celebration, congratulations and pageantry that goes along with it. She flashed her ring (at the ladies’ request), and boy, is it a doozy! She also talked a little bit about The Dixie Chicks, who were big winners at Sunday night’s Grammy awards and a big Hot Topic that morning. And, of course, she talked about “Desperate Housewives”, and things going on with her character. She made it clear that she doesn’t share Gabby’s notion that getting old is a bad thing. In fact, Eva said she was looking forward to getting older, that every wrinkle tells a story and she wants to embrace the wisdom that age will give her. That’s a pretty healthy outlook! She mentioned that Gabby and Carlos WILL be reunited but don’t look for it to happen anytime this season. She will, however, get a new love interest sometime fairly soon played by former “Sex in the City” star John Slattery.
