I can almost picture it now…

by

I am not one to do New Year’s resolutions. When I was in the seventh grade, we had to do resolutions as a writing assignment. All I remember including is “Not worry so much.” Honestly I could put that same “resolution” every year and it will not do much good. I am a worrier; that’s just who I am.

While I am not a fan of once-a-year resolutions, I am a goal-oriented person. I often need goals to keep me motivated. For example, if I don’t have a particular event I am training for, I find myself running a lot less. Give me a training schedule, though, and I am out on the path every day.

With that in mind, spurred on by this week’s Project Blog, I decided to think of what my ultimate goal should be for 2008. Since I want to dream big, my goal for 2008 is…to be a guest host on The View!

my-2008-goal-be-view-guest-host.jpg

Yes, I realize that it will most likely never happen, but please indulge me this fantasy of how the day would go:

*********
Whoopi Goldberg will be in her moderator spot, then Joy Behar, then me. Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck will be to my left. We will start the hot topics segment with me explaining about my website and that not all blogging is mean and snarky. (I get the impression that Joy and Whoopi only think of gossip type sites when they mention blogging).

We will then have a wonderful hot topics segment where I am insightful, intelligent and poised. (Ha! Who am I kidding? Just imagining it in my head is making me nervous. I will be lucky if I don’t clam up completely!). I may go toe-to-toe with Elisabeth about a political issue or maybe debate religion with Sherri. Oh, and I will be funny! Can’t forget that. I won’t be slinging one-liners, but my wit will be obvious to all within earshot.

The first guest will be Reese Witherspoon and I will tell her (without freaking her out) that if they ever make a movie about me, she should play me. As a wild coincidence, she will be presently starring in a movie with Matt Damon, so he will come out to answer a few questions. I will try not to fawn over him like a teenage girl as I ask him about how he keeps in such great shape.

The second segment will be “Introduction to Running” where Elisabeth and I (since she is also a runner) will give tips on how to get started as a runner. We will show how to pick out the right shoes, sports bra, and other clothing. I will talk about how I started running by using the Couch Potato to 5k program which incorporates walking with running.

The final segment will be musical guests the Dixie Chicks (Yes, like I said, it is a dream world) and Elisabeth will tell them that she is sorry that she stopped listening to their music because they opposed the war. They will then ask me to sing back-up with them on “Not Ready to Make Nice,” but will be smart enough to turn off my microphone.

At the end of the show, Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie will come out on the stage and declare that I was the best guest host ever and wouldn’t I like to come work for the show?

The end.
***********

So how do I meet this goal? Hmm, maybe I should have set a more reasonable goal, like “eat more vegetables.” What about all of you? Do you have goals for 2008?

Great post Winnie! That would be awesome if you could be a guest host. My only request is that that you ask them to book Johnny Depp. I don’t think he’s ever been on the View.

  3. Winnie McCarthy Says:

Rainlillie: I rarely see Johnny do interviews. I guess he is press shy? I would love to see him on as well.

Winnie, I knew you were a smart lady when I first came to this website but who knew you had such good taste in musicians? I’m just sooo happy that you would choose the Dixie Chicks in your fantasy episode. :)

    I absolutely LOVE them!!!!!!!

I was actually going to suggest Natalie Maines when you had the contest about which celebrity co-host would be interesting on the show. I guess I should have ;)

  6. Winnie McCarthy Says:

Stephanie: That would have been a GREAT suggestion!

  7. May Says:

Winnie, Loved your latest “writing assignment”. Would like to see you on “The View”..How about singing backup for Barry Manilow…right in front of EH even? The Dixie Chicks would be great as guests! You’re much more lenient than I would be, having EH on period.
My fond dream would be to see EH replaced on the show by Roseanne Barr. What fun!

  8. Sandy Says:

    Wow!!!,
I absolutely love your fantasy goal. I would love to see you as a guest host. Who knows, strange things one never expects happens all the time.

My goal is to be as strong as I can be, in letting go, ..some.. as my baby turns 18, graduates, and goes on to college this coming year.

  9. rainlillie Says:

Johnny doesn’t give a lot of interviews. The ones I have watched, he seemed really uncomfortable. I think Sherri would make him feel at ease. IMO she’s at her best when she’s gushing over an attractive actor. As fans, you’re thinking I would probably act like that too.

  10. Sally Says:

Ha! Winnie, you and I totally wrote (near) identical introductions to our dream goal!

  15. Kara Says:

Yes, Winnie. You need to find out how they hire (?) or choose guest hosts. Do they ever run contests? You would SO win just based on your knowledge of and enthusiasm for the show. And didn’t Sherri S. comment here once? You need to be a guest host. We should start a letter-writing campaign.:-)

  16. Jodie Says:

    Reese Witherspoon! *swoons*
She’s one of the few chicks who would make me go into fangirl mode. Good choice!

  18. Peaches Says:

Well, hell (or, HAY–el, if you’re one of my Texas kin), Winnie … let’s just go for broke on this one: It can be (for the first time in The View’s history), a TWO-HOUR, super-dooper View … to make time for a very special guest …… (drumroll):
    Rosie O’Donnell!

Surely if YOU’re a guest host, you’d have to have Rosie on, right ??? And while EH is apologizing, she can tell Rosie how sorry she is for not taking up for her during the Big Blow-Up. For selling her out so she could brown-nose her pals in the White House and on Fox News…..

I think you’d make a pefect guest host. And I love your idea of having the Dixie Chicks. This was another great submission for the contest. Good luck! (And congrats for last week’s WIN!)

  19. rainlillie Says:

I know everyone is busy, but please take the time to vote for Winnie. This race is getting close. Here’s the link here:
