John and Cindy McCain on September 12th episode of The View
Although the ABC website lists the September 12th episode of The View as “to be announced,” People Magazine has reported that the guests that day will be John McCain and Cindy McCain.
From People.com:
Then on Friday, John and Cindy McCain will sit with Hasselbeck, Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Sherri Shepherd on the chat-fest’s couch for an entire show. Their appearance will kick off The View’s “Red, White and View” campaign of programming aimed at getting the vote out in November.
The People article also discusses how many were labelling Elisabeth Hasselbeck a “rock star” at the Republican National Convention and that she also “scored a one-on-one meeting the GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.” Elisabeth also handed out “vintage-style “McCain ‘08″ T-shirts she designed herself” and reportedly gave one to friend Sean Hannity.

[...] I will update this post again once they decide what Friday’s episode will be about. (Currently listed as “to be announced”) EDITED TO ADD: It may be even more McCain-themed than I thought. People magazine is reporting that the guests on Friday are John and Cindy McCain. [...]

it seems pretty clear to me eh intentionally dissed michelle obama at the luncheon yesterday so there would be no chance of her or barack wanting to come back on the view
September 5th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Only in America
That People reporter should be slapped – please don’t feed the megalomaniac! Even Howard Sterns has fans.
EH spoke at the last convention – this convention: lunch monitor.
Snagged a ‘meeting’ with Oil Barbie – so. If I were Oil Barbie, I would only feel comfortable speaking into the mirror too. SAFE
She wrote her own speech? Did it start, “LET ME FINISH!”
The View better dedicate the following week to Obama – or I’m sending a strongly worded letter to Billy.
September 5th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
I am really disgusted with the View for allowing her to be disrespectful publically to Michelle Obama. I think all self respecting celebritis should ban appearances on the show. They should have enough grace and respect for all guests. If BW and BG allow this then the View can do without my viewing. EH’s little victory will win her battle for acceptance but lose a bigger prize.
Say good-bye EH. We as viewers who dislike EH should protest and shun that program out of respect for all candidates.
The team of McCain, Palin and Hasselback is so snarly, snide and sarcastic. I don’t think Cindy McCain would have acted that way.
September 5th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
wow, i know people accuse Joy of being too far-left and rigid in her views yet she went on Larry King and had nothing but nice things to say about Cindy Mccain.
Elisabeth, on the other hand is just plain nasty. And watching the clip of her at the luncheon gave me the impression that she is just fanatical and deranged.
September 5th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Why all the venom against EH? And just who would you suggest to replace her? She is a Republican and is very open about it. Is no one allowed to have differing opinions? It is The View. If there were no EH, it would be a very boring show with the ladies “Ah-huh, that’s right!” to each other. And why would Barrack not come back to the View? Joy, Whoopi, BW, and Sherri are there to back him up against the evil EH. And how did EH dis M. Obama at the luncheon? If the View polices her actions at a luncheon for C. McCain, then they should police what Whoopi says on her blog. And last, is it not Whoopi who is always scrunching up her face saying, “Let me finish”??
This discussion just reinforces that many people can watch the same show and see entirely different things.
(Here’s another thought-ABC Evening News has just reported that 24% of Democrats have a favorable opinion of Palin. I think that’s significant.)
I’ve been around a long time, People (60 in Nov.). I have proudly voted on both sides of the ticket throughout the years. I want discourse from both sides not condemnation. Do you honestly think that Democrats have the monopoly on open mindedness or correctness?
September 5th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Apologies for not respecting my elder, but at 60 Maryn, you should be a lot more independent in thought.
September 5th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
as a replacement i would love to see Amy Holmes because she actually lets people talk and is very well versed. The difference between what Whoopi is doing on the blog is that she is actually discussing issues and she is judging the candidate running for president, not his wife. That swipe Elisabeth took at Michelle Obama- after Michelle was nothing but gracious to Elisabeth- was ridiculous. And i know people might say that Elisabeth is outnumbered with liberals on the show but it’s pretty obvious that there are a lot of things that Joy or Whoopi don’t bring up to counter Elisabeth. For example:Elisabeth is always attacking Bill Clinton on his infidelities and saying how she would never vote for someone who is a cheater and yet we all know John Mccain cheated on his first wife. It would definitely expose Elisabeth for the phony that she is. But it’s never brought up in the show. I doubt that Joy doesn’t know this. I think she is being told that certain things are off limits.

maryn48 Says:
“And last, is it not Whoopi who is always scrunching up her face saying, “Let me finish”??”
She certainly does! And good for her! EH is always rudely interupting and yapping in the background when someone else is trying to make a point. I don’t blame Whoopi one bit for wanting to be able to finish a point uninterupted.
maryn48 Says:
“And how did EH dis M. Obama at the luncheon? ”
If you read the other blog post Winnie wrote and don’t see anything wrong with her behavior, there is nothing anyone can say that would help you understand.
If you like her and enjoy her on the show, fine. Continue doing so. You have just about the same amount of chance of convincing us she’s a great person as we do in convincing you that she is not. It is what it is.
September 5th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
You’re right, ShannonP. I should let the all the “independent thoughts” expressed in this blog open my mind.
September 5th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
If EH had one independent thought, Maybe I would take her seriously. It seems as if all of the repub. pundits spout the same talking points. Do they get a weekly/daily newsletter telling them how to respond to every issue. I’m all for intelligent discourse. That’s how you learn. But this rabid dog, regurgitated hateful drivel that comes out of her mouth. Whew! Has she ever watched a rerun of the show? Not a pretty sight.
September 5th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
NOT EVERYONES LIBERAL.
people can have differnet points of view than yourseleves.
just because she is Rebulican doesnt mean you hate on her
its pathetic and low
grow up
September 5th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
I don’t know why I’m even shocked that EH would act so unprofessional, but yet I am shocked. I thought that surely even she wouldn’t stoop so low as to bash guests. But, alas, EH always finds a way to sink even lower.
Jenny; This is not a Republican vs. Demoncrat issue. This about someone bashing a former guest on camera. That is not a professional way to behave. But then I probably shouldn’t even waste my breath, as a PP poster already said if you don’t see a problem with EH’s behavior then there’s nothing we could do to make you see.
September 5th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
I have always disliked EH but her comments about Michelle Obama was a new low on her part. Will BW really let this happen with out doing something?
I think EH is just looking to make a career move to FOX
No class, very immature to say the least
If she does not get fired for this there is really something wrobng at the View
(BG)!
September 5th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
Saw EH on Hannity and Colmes tonight and witnessed another display of ignorance. She again quoted the lie that Obama has not authored a single bill. Let me inform her of the numbers:Since entering the State/U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. Including Strengthening Transparency and Accountability in Federal Spending Act of 2008 with John McCain.
As to what do Community Organizers do? (You remember those points of light that GB wished for?) Here are some names that might ring a bell. Jane Addams, Martin Luther King, Lech Walesa, Gandhi, César Chávez,Mother Jones,Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
So next time you feel the need to giggle at some tagline the Republicans are feeding you, educate yourself.
Oh and as a kicker as to who does more in the Senate:
Percent of votes MISSED:
John McCain: 55.7% (second only to Tim Johnson, who has a valid excuse– he’s been hospitalized for a brain hemmorhage)
Barack Obama: 38.8%
September 6th, 2008 at 5:47 am
For those of you who think that people don’t like TLB, because she’s a republican, you are extremely uniformed. I judge a person by their actions not by party affiliation. She supports torture… That sealed the deal for me. Is that to hard to understand? Maybe it is for the morally challenged.
In any case she behaved very unprofessionally by talking about something a guest said or did behind the scenes. It’s tacky and catty, sort of like her. I hope any guest who goes on the View realizes that anything they say behind the scenes, no matter how personal will be used against them. Joy went out of her way to avoid saying something bad about Cindy McCain. That’s the difference between a person of good character and someone like TLB.
Stacee, your post hit the nail on the head!
September 6th, 2008 at 6:02 am
Hopefully the View crew would check this article:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/sep/06/uselections2008.sarahpalin
Since they love to talk sex I found this tidbit horrifying:
Alaska has the highest per capita incidence of chlamydia in the country, and that the rate of teenage pregnancies across the US, including within her state, has just risen for the first time in 14 years - a trend many blame on George Bush’s preferment of abstinence-only education. “
September 6th, 2008 at 7:56 am
Is it EH’s place to invite the McCain’s on the view or to interview Palin? It seems she is trying to usurp BW’s place. She’s out of line and out of her depth. Is she a self appointed political analyst now on Hannity?
September 6th, 2008 at 11:54 am
[...] Politics aside, do you think it is appropriate for the hosts to be discussing behind-the-scenes conversations with the guests? Does anyone think that Barbara Walters or Bill Geddie will be upset by her comment given that it may make other guests hesitant to go on the show? Do you think that Elisabeth made the comment hoping that it would deter Michelle and Barack Obama from returning to the show in the future? (The McCains will be on The View next Friday) [...]

I hope everyone is emailing the View Master to let him know how they feel!
September 6th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
PRIOR POST: Why all the venom against EH?
RESPONSE: let me count the ways
rude
immature
interrupts WAY more than anyone else
complains about others interrupting more than others (perhaps not WAY more; Whoopi complains about it too)
intolerant
hypocrite
doesn’t listen
doesn’t let others talk
doesn’t even let others listen and absorb
mean-spirited (so is Joy sometimes - not nearly so often, but I don’t like it in her either)
dim-witted
inconsistent
stops thoughtful discussion
holds republicans to lesser standard than democrats
blah
blah
blah
September 6th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
PRIOR POST: I hope everyone is emailing the View Master to let him know how they feel!
RESPONSE: I assume he knows what we think and doesn’t care. He may care about this latest behavior, but I don’t think it won’t be because we’re complaining. He proved to me a long time ago he doesn’t care about thoughtful discussion or what we think.

Ask John McCain about this article…
Carol McCain
McCain likes to illustrate his moral fiber by referring to his five years as a prisoner-of-war in Vietnam . And to demonstrate his commitment to family values, the 71-year- old former US Navy pilot pays warm tribute to his beautiful blonde wife, Cindy, with whom he has four children. But there is another Mrs. McCain who casts a ghostly shadow over the Senator’s presidential campaign. She is seldom seen and rarely written about, despite being mother to McCain’s three eldest children.
She was the woman McCain dreamed of during his long incarceration and torture in Vietnam ’s infamous ‘Hanoi Hilton’ prison and the woman who faithfully stayed at home looking after the children and waiting anxiously for news. But when McCain returned to America in 1973 to a fanfare of publicity and a handshake from Richard Nixon, he discovered his wife had been disfigured in a terrible car crash three years earlier. Her car had skidded on icy roads into a telegraph pole on Christmas Eve, 1969.
Her pelvis and one arm were shattered by the impact and she suffered massive internal injuries.
When Carol was discharged from hospital after six months of life-saving surgery, the prognosis was bleak. In order to save her legs, surgeons had been forced to cut away huge sections of shattered bone, taking with it her tall, willowy figure. She was confined to a wheelchair and was forced to use a catheter. Today, she stands at just 5′ 4″ in and still walks awkwar dly, with a pronounced limp. Her body is held together by screws and metal plates and, at 70, her face is worn by wrinkles that speak of decades of silent suffering.
For nearly 30 years, Carol has maintained a dignified silence about the accident, McCain and their divorce. But last week at the bungalow where she now lives at Virginia Beach, a faded seaside resort 200 miles south of Washington, she told The Mail on Sunday how McCain divorced her in 1980 and married Cindy, 18 years his junior and the heir to an Arizona brewing fortune, just one month later.
My marriage ended because John McCain didn’t want to be 40, he wanted to be 25. You know that happens…it just does.’
In 1979 - while still married to Carol - he met Cindy at a cocktail party in Hawaii . Over the next six months he pursued her, flying around the country to see her. Then he began to push to end his marriage. Some of McCain’s acq uaintances are less forgiving, however. They portray the politician as a self-centered womanizer who effectively abandoned his crippled wife to ‘play the field’. They accuse him of finally settling on Cindy, a former rodeo beauty queen, for financial reasons.
Ted Sampley, who fought with US Special Forces in Vietnam and is now a leading campaigner for veterans’ rights,
said: ‘I have been following John McCain’s career for nearly 20 years. I know him personally. There is something wrong with this guy and let me tell you what it is -deceit.’
When he came home and saw that Carol was not the beauty he left behind, he started running around on her almost right away. Everybody around him knew it. Eventually he met Cindy and she was young and beautiful and very wealthy. At that point McCain just dumped Carol for something he thought was better.”
McCain is the classic opportunist. He ’s always reaching for attention and glory,’ he said. After he came home, Carol walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona . And the rest is history.’
Ross Perot, a billionaire Texas businessman, and a former presidential candidate, who paid her medical bills all those years ago, now believes that both Carol McCain and the American people have been taken in by a man who is unusually slick and cruel - even by the standards of modern politics.
The Will of God never takes you to where the Grace of God will not protect you.

COMMENTS
Interesting how we haven’t heard about her, huh! I bet John McCain wants this part of his past to be ignored.
Can you embrace Churchill¢s statement and apply it to McCain, after you read the information below?
“He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.” - Winston Churchill
First wife out of sight, how shallow can one man be?
September 7th, 2008 at 8:52 am
Oh, we have heard about Carol McCain - Nancy Reagan was and is her best friend and I read that Nancy hates John because of what he did to Carol when he returned from Vietnam. One can google this subject and come up with quite a bit.
Interesting that nobody brings up these many subjects that belong to John and Cindy McCain - why do they let them slide and then become pitbulls against Barack and the democrats? It’s totally unfair.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:54 am
OMG - I watched Bill Maher last night and they had an obnoxious person on there although she was a democrat - she runs neck-and-neck with EH as far as shrill, interruptions, never letting anyone finish their thought - KERRY WASHINGTON is her name and I found her to be as obnoxious as EH, only on opposite sides.
I think these 2 should go at it - Kerry Washington and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Two peas in a pod.

Response: This marriage lasted another 5 years after he returned from Vietnam. That’s probably longer than the average marriage of returning POWs.
Prior Post: Interesting how we haven’t heard about her, huh! I bet John McCain wants this part of his past to be ignored.
Response: Where have you been? This is old news. He has fully acknowledged it and his own fault in the matter.
This was over 28 years ago! By Carol’s own statements the divorce is amicable and she supports him for President. That ought to be enough for us about this topic. I mean for every Repub lapse in moral behavior can we not find a Dem one…do the names Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, John Edwards ring a bell?
On to something else and let’s leave her along…please!
September 9th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
I understand we all have “Views” but I am finding Elizabeth “WAY” out of line. I did not understand why ABC allowed her RNC clip to aired. EH is very one sided and narrow minded, which worries me at nights to think voters like her may have the majority. Could she not open her narrow mind and understand the general people have different circumstances that may not fall into your narrow ways.
With all of Elizabeth HIGH VALUES, read above MCain’s true character. Granted Carol is obviously a lovely lady and respected by her friends and peers. I find it ironic John McCain marries a “TROPHY WIFE” and picks a “TROPHY VP”. Has he really changed his color as a “WOMANIZER”!!!!!! Do man stop being “WOMANIZERS”? DO YOU ELIZABETH FEEL IT WAS OKAY FOR JOHN MCCAIN TO CHEAT ON HIS FIRST WIFE OF THREE CHILDREN?
September 9th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
EH has become intolerable with her holier than thow attitude. its her way or the highway, cant stand her talking over and interupting everyone. Sarah is a phony and is pushing what she thinks we women want to hear. J Mc only picked her to satisify the women who said they would vote for him if H.C. wasnt nominated and the religious right . UGH!! he needs his head examined.
September 10th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Please! Please! Please! Get Elisabeth Hasselbach off of the view. She has just breached confidentiality with guest information on her job. this is her job like we have a job and depending on what type of job you have to sign a confidentiality agreement. Obviously she thinks she is above the law. don’t care if she is helping to campaign for the entire world, you don’t do what she has done. She has caused so much controversy since she has been on board. They really need to let her go. Let Elisabeth find her own way on someone else’s time. Please for all of us get rid of her.
Thank you

I am a supporter of the Democratic Party and Sen. Obama. Up to now, I have respected the opinion of Elisabeth, even defended her right to her opinion (I’m one of the few people I know that can tolerate her). She went too far revealing behind the scene conversations. Why didn’t she mention the list on the View? I think it was cowardly move to wait until she’s at Republican Convention. She should be reprimanded and forced to publicly apologize to Mrs. Obama.
September 11th, 2008 at 8:17 am
Elizabeth Hasslebeck is pathetic. She is a whining and simple woman!
I listen to the View on tv-band radio. When Elizabeth talks I turn the volumn down. I can’t stand to hear her voice. She is a know-it-all, but knows nothing! Barbara Walters should do us a favor and add an adult on the show and remove EH.
I am sick of EH.
September 11th, 2008 at 8:22 am
Just viewed the Hasslebeck/Obama video. Hasslebeck has some real issues!
I’m sorry she has The View to promote her hypocritical thinking!
Is she represents the GOP women, that’s a sad commentary!
September 11th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
I’m no more surprised by EH’s comments then I am that the View is doing nothing about it. EH should have some more decorum when it comes to thing that should be left behind View doors.
September 11th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
I have decided not to what the view until EH is reprimanded for comments and she publicly apologizes to the Obama family. EH is just empty vessel of pure nothingness.
September 11th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Lets start a boycott until this issue of EH comments have been publicly address!!!!
September 12th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
I think it is fine that EH is a proud Republican, but why does she have to be so rude and nasty. Yell it from the roof tops if you want to Lizzy but quit acting crazy. Quit trying to yell over everyone to get your point across. It is my opinion she is the female version of Sean Hannity, I am sure if she read this she would be thrilled. I already quit watching the View, I mostly hear of her crazy antics on other news sources. I would BW would care what people think of her show thanks to that bubble head EH, but it sure does not seem like it.
September 12th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
I just watch the EH speech regarding Michelle. I find this very unprofessional and rude to the guest of the View. I believe this is crossing the line and should be fired.
