July 13th Recap: Perez Hilton to have his own TV show

by

perez.jpg In what was probably recorded on Monday, this new (but taped) episode again featured co-hosts Sherri Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg, with Barbara Walters being absent. Elisabeth is contemplating getting a 3-D ultrasound, but she doesn’t want to see too much of the baby before its born. Sherri had one done and it was cute because her son always “kept his hand on his little piece” in the pictures.

Whoopi brought up the topic that some people think that Barack Obama is “not Black enough.” Sherri said she is concerned about things that are not black and white issues, such as health care and poverty. Joy said that Obama was criticized for calling America “a magical place.” Whoopi said considering how recent slavery and Jim Crow laws are in our history, it is magical that we are considering electing a Black man.

They talked about today’s guest Perez Hilton, who has what Joy called the most-hated website, although it gets millions of hits everyday. He calls Elisabeth, “Elisabitch.” Joy said that she is the farthest thing from a bitch. Whoopi said that people like to see celebrities slide. Sherri said she goes to his site everyday to see what celebrities are up to. Whoopi revealed that she doesn’t have a computer, but she has an iPhone. She doesn’t know what a blog is.

Whoopi then brought up the topic sexomnia, where you engage in sex while you are sleeping. Sherri said her husband has this problem. Joy revealed that she had a dream about Jimmy Carter hitting on her. She told him to meet her upstairs and then told her boyfriend Steve to go tell Carter that she could not do it with him. Sherri said that she had a lot of sex dreams while she was pregnant. Sherri said she is dreading that her husband’s birthday is coming up. Elisabeth interjected (I think), “The birthday blowjob,” but it was bleeped. Joy said, “Oh, you are going to do a Monica Lewinsky!”

Sherri has a new movie coming out July 27th called Who’s Your Caddy.

Tom Bergeron, host of Dancing with the Stars appeared on the show. He hosted Hollywood Squares for six years, four of those years with Whoopi and he said that was enough tic-tac-toe for a lifetime. He would not confirm rumors than Jennie Garth or Spice Girl Melanie B. will be on the next season of Dancing with the Stars.

Perez Hilton, gossip blogger at PerezHilton.com appeared on the show. He had orange hair today! He said that he starting using the fake name when he started getting death threats from Clay Aiken fans. He had posted some photos purporting to show Clay engage in homosexual activities. He said that he thinks that talking about celebrities’ sexuality is reporting and he wants to treat them equally with heterosexual couples.

He said that the reason that he calls Elisabeth “Elisabitch” is that when Star Jones left the show, Elisabeth became the bitch of the show, in a good way. Elisabeth asked him how he could sleep at night and why he doesn’t treat everyone with respect. He said that he likes to push the envelope and get people talking. They all told him that he should not make fun of children because they don’t understand his humor and cannot defend themselves. Joy asked him to promise that he would not make fun of children and he said that he would not make any promises that he could not keep.

He announced that he will be coming out with a television show on Vh-1, which will be a series of one-hour specials. He joked that he will be the gay Barbara Walters. Whoopi asked him if he is ready to be a celebrity himself and be subjected to the same type of criticism. He noted that many of the comments to his site are mean toward him and he doesn’t mind, adding that he can take what he dishes out.

I was surprised at how contentious all of the women were with Perez. I would have preferred if they had allowed him to speak more freely, rather than just defending himself for the majority of the interview. It was weird how Whoopi, who said she had no idea who he was, reacted so negatively to him. I would have liked them to ask him how he acquired all of his sources, how he decides what stories to publish, and why he thinks that his website has become so popular.  This would have been more interesting than different variations on how what he does is hurtful.

The final segment was about backyard gadgets with Dr. Gadget. Here are the things he talked about:

  • Pawleys Island Customized Hammock: $720
  • George Foreman MP3 indoor/outdoor grill
  • Frontgate Waterprood iPod Stereo Case which floats in the water
  • No-crank garden hose reel
  • Gadget Universe Wireless Video Camera to keep track of the kids in the backyard.

    1. Stacee Says:

Today’s show felt really awkward. The laughter seemed a little forced in places. There seemed to be some odd moments. I don’t know if it was because of Whoopi co-hosting but today dd not seem to have a good flow.

Perez being on the show was pretty interesting. I agree with much of Winnie’s assessment. I wanted so much to hate him but he actually handled himself very well in spite of the circumstances. He’s still not one of my favorite people but at least he showed up to face the wolves (so to speak). I also thought that while Elisabeth tried to act like the “Elisabitch” comment did not bother her, it seemed like it really did.

I so agree that they didn’t handle the Perez interview well at all. This current cast of ladies has no chemistry and the show is suffering. They made themselves look bad with this interview. Whether you like Perez or not, it was refreshing to see someone stand their ground and not just nod and smile like when the ladies say something stupid (often)…

    3. Elsie Says:

Yes, Perez H. did pull it off well. Oh, they never critize/attack anyon @ The View! And since whn doe Joy defends Elisabeth? Joy of all people attacking Perez Hilton. At least he’s funny, what he has is a blog, and really he’s no worse than other, i.e. TMZ. Sheri is lovely, can lose a few lbs.

    4. jacob Says:

wow so agree with you guys… the mauling of perez seemed a little too pre-meditated for my liking… i mean i love the view, but who are they kidding? they devote 90% of hot topics to gossiping and bitching about celebrities, usually under the familiar guise of ‘people are saying…. or i’ve heard….’ at least perez had the intgrity to owe his actions. I feel that JB was the most hypocitical during this segment i mean really joy :(

    5. lilkunta Says:

So eh is okay w letting Perez come on when he is calling her Elisabitch; but she has banned Mariska H/Chris M/Tamara Tunie/Rich Belzar and the rest of the SVU show bc of the Elisabeth Hassenback show from oct ?

Just go off and have your baby eh.
