July 25th Recap: James Marsden and Cheryl Ladd

Giuliana DePandi, from E! News, was the guest host on The View on Wednesday. She is engaged to Bill Rancic, the first winner of The Apprentice. She met him when she interviewed him for E!. She is going to take his last name. Guiliani came to the United States from Italy when she was seven.
Barbara and Joy feel bad for Lindsay Lohan. Elisabeth feels bad that she does not have the support system, but stopped feeling bad when she got the behind the wheel of a car drunk and 43,000 people a year are killed by drunk drivers. Giuliana pointed out that Lindsay’s father is an alcoholic and she believes that Lindsay is sick. Elisabeth said that she has the money to hire a driver.
Barbara thought that the segment on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno where Rob Schneider dressed up like Lindsay Lohan was “mean.” Giuliana said it was crossing the line and it is probably difficult for Lindsay because all of her friends use her to get into nightclubs and probably pressure her to go out.
Next they talked about Britney Spears and her latest problems. She did a photoshoot and exclusive interview with Ok! Magazine, who are now saying that Britney was a mess and had a meltdown. She is accused of acting out of it and ruining clothing. There next issue will tell all about the interview. Joy joked that they should call it “Not Ok!” magazine.
Joy and Barbara went to an “off-the-record” event with Barack Obama. Barbara invited Barack to come on The View and he said that he had been on before. Barbara said, “I must not have been on that day.” Barack assured that she was there. (I guess everyone was on the money with their comments about Barbara’s failing memory). Joy said that she was really impressed with Barack and that she hopes that America really gets to know him.
Barack Obama is currently in a “feud” with Hillary Clinton about whether a President should visit the leaders of countries like Syria or Cuba. Hillary said that she should not until she knew their agenda, but Barack said that he would meet with them because ignoring them does not make them go away. People are now saying that Hillary represents experience, while Barack represents a change.
James Marsden appeared to promote the movie Hairspray. He plays “Corny Collins,” the host of the dance show, “The Corny Collins Show” in the movie. He said “it was a blast” making the movie. When he first saw John Travolta in the fat suit, dressed as a woman, he was a bit taken aback. He still dances great, despite all the prosthetics. James did not really have a musical background, but sang as a hobby. At Barbara’s instance, he got up and danced the mashed potato and the twist.
He has two children, who are six and two. He and his wife just celebrated their seventh anniversary. His son just started playing the drums, much to the dismay of his neighbors. His children are not that impressed by his work, because his son just assumes everyone has an actor father. Joy asked if he would like the next X-Men movie to be a musical version. He said that a lot of the actors have a musical background, so it could work.
Cheryl Ladd appeared on the show to talk about menopause. She recently became a grandmother. She said that she is “in bliss.” They showed a clip of an interview that Barbara did with her in 1980. Cheryl’s daughter Jordan is an actress and has appeared in a lot of horror films. She did have some hesitation about talking with such an age-sensitive topic as menopause. She mentioned a website called Know Menopause.
