July 26th Recap: Martin Sheen and Billy Ray Cyrus

Dayna Devon, from Extra, was the guest host. She came out onto the stage holding hands with Barbara. She has two children under the age of two. She had them one after the other because her husband told her that her eggs were drying out. Her husband is a plastic surgeon. (Did anyone else find her to be really annoying? I guess it figures, then, that Barbara seemed to like her).
More couples are not having children. Elisabeth wants seven. Barbara wants her daughter to have children because she wants grandchildren.
Hillary Clinton is in the news again because at the debate John Edwards said he did not like her jacket when he was asked to name something he did not like about her. Joy said that the problem is that John is not witty. Elisabeth said that Hillary cannot win, because no matter what she wears, people complain, either because it is too masculine or too feminine. Barbara does not think he was being sexist, but just being flippant.
They then had some (even more) boring topics about whether your weight is determined by the weight of those you spend time with and whether you should sue if someone says something bad about you.
There is a cat at a nursing home in Rhode Island that seems to know when someone is going to die. When it goes over to a person, they die later. Joy said that maybe the cat is killing the people!
Martin Sheen appeared on the show to discuss his new movie Talk to Me, which co-stars Don Cheadle. Martin said that for his character as president on West Wing, he was a combination of John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton. The new movie is about a controversial radio personality. Martin plays the owner of the station.
Martin has been married to his wife for 46 years. Barbara brought up his son Charlie who is doing well now after some rough experiences with drugs. Martin said that you have to do everything you possible can to help your child. He said that the hardest part of helping Charlie was getting through his entourage to get to him. He said that his only regret in having four children was that he did not have four more. Martin has a boys clothing line called Jackson Clay.
Billy Ray Cyrus appeared on the show to promote his album Home at Last. His fourteen year old daughter is Miley Cyrus, star of Hannah Montana. He has always tried to be Miley’s best friend. He said that she has a great head on her shoulders and she will make good decisions. He is a fan of Lindsay Lohan and he is pulling for her. He sang the song “Ready, Set, Don’t Go,” which is about having to let go of Miley when she went to Los Angeles for a time without him.

Re: John Edwards and Hillary’s jacket
When I saw this clip, I completely thought that John E. was just being nice. He was asked to point out something he didn’t like about Hillary, and he said, “I’m not sure about the jacket?” Kind of like a question…
I just think he was too classy to say something he really didn’t like about her. I think they blew this thing way out of proportion.

Is anyone else disappointed with how boring this show has been lately? I think they better announce the new co-hosts soon because I can’t deal anymore with Barbara being on everyday.
