June 20th Recap: Bon Jovi and Gayle King
Gayle King was guest host on The View today. She will also be guest host again on Thursday. Although I did have some reservations about her as a possible permanent host, because I feel like she is just “Oprah’s friend,” I did find her fairly enjoyable today. She is the editor-at-large for O Magazine (Oprah’s magazine) and also has an XM radio show (which I assume is also affiliated with Oprah, but I am not sure).
The first topic of the day was the way that this Presidential election is already shaping up to be different than past years because of the heavy reliance on the internet. They showed the video that Hillary and Bill Clinton made that spoofed the season finale of The Sopranos. Gayle said that she thinks the video is funny and clever. Joy said that is smart to use the internet to get younger voters.
They also talked about the video that someone made where a scantily-clad woman sings “I’ve got a crush on Obama.” The video is not affiliated with the Barack Obama campaign. Joy said that the singer is “hookerville” because she did the video and doesn’t even know if she is going to vote for Obama. Here are the two videos:
Hillary Clinton is getting some criticism for choosing a Celine Dion song as her campaign song, because Celine is a Canadian citizen. Elisabeth said that maybe that has something to do with her plans for universal health care. Gayle said that it shouldn’t matter that the singer of the song is Canadian.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York has left the Republican party and is now Independent. Gayle thinks that he is laying the groundwork for announcing a bid for President. He is not married, but has a girlfriend. Barbara asked whether he should marry the woman if he decides to run and becomes president. Elisabeth asked if they didn’t get married would she be the “first girlfriend”? Barbara showed a clip of when they had their “fantasy weddings” on The View and she chose Bloomberg as her groom. She was going to just have a cardboard cut-out, but then Bloomberg surprised her.
They also talked about the family of Ron Goldman now owns the rights to the book that O.J. Simpson wrote called If I did it. Barbara Walters read the book and she said that it is “so graphic.” Gayle said that when she goes out on a date, one of the questions she asks her date is if he believes that O.J. is innocent. If he says, “Yes,” then the date is pretty much over. Gayle says that she just wants O.J to “go away.” She also said that she doesn’t like the idea of the Goldman family selling the book because it is “blood money.” Elisabeth said that maybe the it will be good for the family to get the truth out. Joy thinks that the family should do it so that they can get something out of the tragedy that they have gone through.
They also talked the new television show Age of Love which is a Bachelor-type show with women in their 40s and 20s. Gayle said that she doesn’t like it when the women are begging to be chosen and that they should not want to be with a man who does not want to be with them. Then Barbara, Gayle, and Joy all broke into song, singing “let it be him” (I think?) Then Elisabeth starting singing the “I’ve got a crush on Obama song,” which she admitted she thought was catchy.
Jon Bon Jovi appeared on the show in support of his new album Lost Highway. Bon Jovi has been making music for 25 years. This new album has a Nashville/country influence. Jon said that he is not embarrassed to look at the photos of himself and the band from the 1980s and considers those photos his “baby pictures.”
He said that he had to get a police escort to the show today day because he was running late. He was nervous sitting in the back of the police car, afraid that the tabloids would get a picture of him. He said that he has four children, ages 14, 12, 5, and 3. He works hard to keep them out of the public eye.
Jon said that Richie Sambora is “in very good shape” after having a rough year and a half, with his divorce from Heather Locklear, public relationship with Denise Richards, and the death of his father.
Bon Jovi then performed two songs.
The View, Barbara Walters, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Joy Behar, Gayle King, Oprah Winfrey, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, I’ve got a crush on Obama, The Sopranos, Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Jon Bon Jovi, OJ Simpson, Denise Richards, Heather Locklear

Is it me, or was Jon Bon Jovi’s upper lip over botoxed? It looked like he couldn’t move his lips the whole time. Otherwise, I thought Gayle King was good…much better than that other witch Star they had on earlier this week….Oh and does anyone else think Bill Gedde is kind of a moron?

guys what did you think of Gayle? i have to say she is definitly my lead contender for permanent co-host (sooo much better then whoopi, please don’t let it be whoopi, she is just sooo boring)…..
Getting Gayle to co-host would be as good as getting Oprah herself, maybe even better. She added a depth and honesty that we havn’t seen on the view before.
Although she was a little quiet i believe that she would be into getting her hands a little dirty once she was more comfortable…

Who did Joy marry on the show? Why wouldn’t she talk about it when Barbara said that she “married” Mayor Mike?
