June 4th Recap: Kathy Griffin Returns and Barbara speaks to Paris Hilton
Kathy Griffin returned for another stint as guest host today.
Barbara Walters said that she spoke to Paris Hilton and her mother Kathy about Paris going to jail. Paris said that her life will change and it will be the first time in her life that she is alone. Paris also told Barbara that there is a reason that she is meant to go to jail and she is ready to face the consequences. Joy said that she was driving drunk is the reason she is supposed to go to jail.
Barbara said that Paris snuck out the back gate of her grandfather’s house to escape the paparazzi last night. She then was escorted to the jail by a sheriff through an underground tunnel. Kathy joked “What’s the point of going to jail if there is no paparazzi?”
Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that people were saying that Paris left the MTV Movie Awards early because she was upset by jokes made at her expense by Sarah Silverman. Sarah joked that to make Paris’ time at the jail more pleasant they were going to make the jail bars look like penises, but hoped that she wouldn’t chip a tooth. Barbara added that Paris does have feelings and Paris told her that she hoped by going to jail maybe it would make people less mean to her.
They talked about the Democratic candidate debate last night. Joy Behar joked that Hillary Clinton was so far ahead that “even Bill wants to date her again.” Hillary said she thinks our country is safer than we were before, but not safe enough. Joy said that she believes that since the war in Iraq we are less safe because of the increased number of jihadists. Kathy added that traveling globally is less safe now. Elisabeth said that we have not been attacked because of the Patriot Act and other measures by the government. Kathy said something about the Patriot Act violating our civil rights and Barbara scolded her not to debate. Kathy said she felt like she was in trouble.
Hillary thinks that the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy should be abandoned and that gays should be permitted to openly serve in the military. She said that the policy was a compromise at the time that should now be changed. Barbara said that Hillary also mentioned that when she becomes president, she will make her husband a roving ambassador.
They also discussed the foiled plot to blow up fuel tanks at JFK airport. The men were not tied to Al Qaeda. One of the men used to work at JFK. Elisabeth brought up the Patriot Act again and Kathy said it is a bad thing.
They discussed the latest episode of The Sopranos series finale. Barbara predicted that Carmela will be killed in the final episode.
James Watson has developed a test that will tell you all of the illnesses and conditions that you are predisposed to genetically. The test is currently $10,000. Elisabeth expressed concern that health insurance companies or employers may use the evidence against people. Joy said that religious conservatives might be more likely to vote for stem cell research if they knew that they, or their children, were likely to get certain diseases.
Wayne Brady appeared on the show to promote his new show, Making %@it Up, at the Venitian in Las Vegas. He does improvisational songs and parodies in the show. Kathy said that Wayne is the best improviser that she has ever seen. Wayne said that his four-year-old daughter gives him tips on what works in his show and what doesn’t. Wayne used to stutter when he was a child and was very shy. When he began acting, he gained confidence and it cured his stuttering.
They then had the audience give some fake song titles and he made up some songs on the spot. The songs were:
Ne-Yo then appeared on the show to promote his new album Because of You. He has written songs for many artists in the past, including Beyonce and is currently writing for Whitney Houston and is “trying” to write something for the comeback of Britney Spears. He is also possibly going to write a song for Michael Jackson. It “took some getting used to” as he transitioned from behind-the-scenes songwriter to performer. He writes songs about things that happen to him and his personal experiences. He then performed the title track from the album for the audience.

Good update/summary-makes me wish that I had seen it.

What is this with BW saying “not to debate”? The View has always been about debating hot topics! The original cast always was discussing things….and not always agreeing. I do not like the sound of that.
I am sick of EH blindly supporting the government….the Patriot Act is taking away
some of our rights that veterans in former wars have fought to ensure for us. I sometimes wonder if people have not had the type of history and poli sci classes I took. It seems as if they are blithely going along with the Administration under the guise of being protected against the “terrorists” …giving up our rights, even the smallest ones, is a huge mistake.

Random Musings,
Get a grip on reality. Did you read the story about the terrorplot at JFK airport that was stopped by local officials? The reality is terrorists want us dead and if it means that the government has to eavesdrop a little, I say do it. The JFK terror plot was going to be huge. Gas pipelines exploding which would have pretty much decimated that airport.

silly nick, T.V. is for kids. Gas pipelines only blow up if the gas is pressurized. It would have never done that. There are shut off valves throughout the lines. They are just trying to scare you. Those guys had no money and their survaillence composed of looking on Google Earth. Wow. High tech stuff. There is a possibility of attacks everywhere. Did you know that the president wants to change the 22nd Amendment? Yeah, where he could just take over without congress….its just a little eavesdropping…just a little dictatorship…before you know it us brown people better run for the hills…its just a little gas chambers…silly nick…ever read a history book?

Jess,
Unless you can back up what you say with, you know, credible sources, you’re just spouting tin-foil-hat nonsense.
Put up or shut up…
June 4th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
But, hey, jess, fire _never_ melted steel, right?
June 4th, 2007 at 7:15 pm
NYC Officials said the terror plot was just an idea that could never have been executed by that motley crew.
EH is old before her time. She needs to take her nervous behind and move to some random state where there is a minimal population, and bunker down. Boo!

I resent the fact that anyone would assume I believe everything anyone tells me. I read this article in the Sydney Morning Herald; the plan was just that, a plan.I don’t pee my pants, everytime I hear someone wants to kill us. I already know there are such people. Our national security depends solely on how we treat others in the world. If we treat people badly, guess what..they may not like it. But of course…”they hate us for our freedom”. Right. Check it out for yourself. You are such an expert, J. I never said I was an expert. And if you want more info on the President and the 22nd Amendment just google , President and the 22nd Amendment. Its real simple. Unless you enjoy living in a bubble. You don’t even need a tin foil hat for that.

Thanks for sharing my Sarah Silverman link Winnie!

I agree with you, Jess. The news attaches to every horrible fear-mongering story. We can shake in our boots or we can open our eyes. We can research beyond the network broadcasts. If people stopped calling each other names and started talking about the issues, perhaps this country would experience positive change.
June 5th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Thanks Liz. Name calling will never get us anywhere. We need change. We need more than what is provided by mainstream. I believe the American people deserve at least that much. I love American and will not let the poeple outside this country or INSIDE this country take my COUNTRY away from me.

Yes, Liz, I agree, stop the name calling and hate and lets all work together.
