June 8th Recap: Robert Iler and Crazy Love
Kathy Griffin was back once again as guest host. She revealed that the photos that appeared in the tabloids earlier this year that showed her falling out of a taxi were a stunt. Sharon Osbourne told her that to become famous in England, you need to fall out of a taxi and throw up. Kathy called the paparazzi herself and, in full hair and make-up, staged a fall out of a taxi. She said that the ploy worked and she ended up in all of the magazines. Her mom was upset, though, because she was afraid people would think Kathy was a drunk. Kathy joked that if people would now just say that she needs to go to rehab, it would be perfect.
They discussed Linda and Burt Pugach, the couple that will be on later in the show. They got into a fight and he hired someone to throw lye in her face, which disfigured her. He also tried to get someone to kill her new boyfriend. He spent 14 years in prison and when he got out, she married him.
They talked about another couple who decided to have sex for 100 days in a row to spice up their marriage and then wrote a book about it. Joy said that there are a lot of couples where the man always wants to have more sex than the woman. Kathy said that is not true in her case. She joked that she has men quivering in the corner saying “I’m still sore” when she wants them to be ready to go again.
Robert Iler, AJ from The Sopranos appeared on the show. His character in this final season has gone through a lot, including depression. He said that if he could write the finale, he would make it so that everyone is okay and happy, in case they want to continue it later.
Kathy said that they lost a lot of characters last week and asked “What is it like when someone is killed off the show.” He responded, looking at the other hosts, “I don’t know. What is it like?” The look that Barbara gave him, complete with a full smile and a piercing glare, was great. Kathy Griffin laughed and clapped and the audience thought it was funny. Joy and Elisabeth changed the subject immediately. (I couldn’t tell if maybe Joy didn’t get the joke?)
Robert was 12 when the show began and is now 22. He is reading scripts now and hopes to find a great film role. He doesn’t watch the show because he doesn’t like watching or hearing himself. The scene that he filmed earlier this season where his character attempted suicide was very emotional. He said that his mom was traumatized when she watched the scene on television.
He said that he is not dating Lorraine Bracco’s daughter, but that they are “great friends” and he has “a huge crush on her.” Kathy asked him if he would have sex with her for 100 days and he said “why not?”
Linda and Burt Pugach appeared on the show to promote the documentary about their life called Crazy Love. They have been married for 33 years. When they first met, Burt was married. When she broke up with him, he put a hit out on her and someone threw lye on her face. It caused her to have severe vision impairment. She had some vision until 1990. Burt said that he was crazy with love for her and that is why he did it. When he was in jail for fourteen years, Linda was dating other men and “having a good time.”
When he got out of prison, “he looked fantastic” thanks to working out in prison, so she married him. Her friend encouraged her to get back with him because he loved her and had paid for his crime. Burt said that Linda is her “best friend” and they do everything together.
Burt was arrested years later for stalking another woman, but he was acquitted. Joy asked Linda “What does this guy have to do before you dump him?” Linda said, “What is the point of me getting angry. I can’t change it. I have to make the best of it.” She added that she would be dead without him, because he gives her the medication.
I think that the couple was not quite expecting the reception that they got from both Joy and Barbara, who both expressed much shock that she married him and that she is still with him. What did you all think of this “crazy” couple? Part of me felt bad for her because she is so dependent on him. I also have to agree with what Kathy said that maybe Linda thought she could not do any better.
They then had a segment about “cheap summer shoes.”
