March 16th Recap: Sara Ramirez, Balthazar Getty, and Dave Annable

by Winnie McCarthy

sara.jpg Kathy Griffin sat in as guest host today. The new season of her reality show My Life on the D-List premieres June 5th on Bravo. She said that in her attempt to become more famous and appear in magazines, she wants to date a famous man. Since her divorce she joked that has become a “wild single slut.” She has a poll set up where you can vote for which man you think she should date. The choices are:

Sanjaya
Mario Lopez
K-Fed
Larry Birkhead
Prince William

To cast your vote, head to Off the D List. Kathy joked that if she cannot date one of those men, she would like to date Warren Buffet or Bill Gates, because she has a thing for smart guys.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck revealed that she received an e-mail from Blake from American Idol, thanking her for her support. Rosie O’Donnell was jealous, because she has been such a big fan of him. Kathy joked that it won’t make a difference when he is “working at a mall in six months.”

Barbara Walters revealed that she received a phone call from Kathy Hilton, mom to Paris. Kathy Hilton said, “We can only hope that something positive will come from all this. Hopefully young people who look up to people like Paris will learn from this.” Kathy Griffin wants to know where all the positive role models are for young women. Elisabeth said that people like Mandy Moore, Laila Ali, and female soccer stars are all good role models. Griffin added that the women’s movement seems to be going backward and it is worse that when she was a teenager.

They talked about singer Akon who is under fire for simulating a sex act on stage with a 15 year old girl. According to Griffin, another man held the girl down, making it like a simulated rape. Since Akon is the opening act for Gwen Stefani, Griffin hopes that Stefani, as a strong woman, will remove him from her tour. Elisabeth said that one positive thing happening is that Master P has formed a new record label that will prohibit the use of offensive language and negative portrayals of women.

Sara Ramierez, star of Grey’s Anatomy, appeared on the show. She would not reveal any secrets about the show. When asked about her character’s feelings of the relationship between George and Izzy, she said that she knows that they have a deep connection and a strong friendship, and she is trying to be the bigger person and allow them to be friends. She said that when she did the scene on the show where she danced in her underwear, she was uncomfortable, but is glad that she did the scene.

Sara won a Tony Award for her role in Spamalot. She said that theater and New York are her first loves creatively, and she likes that it is separate from Grey’s Anatomy. Sara is involved in Dove’s “real beauty” campaign, which shows women and girls that beauty doesn’t come in just one way. She was also named one of the “50 Most Beautiful People” by People en Espanol.

Balthazar Getty and Dave Annable, stars of Brothers and Sisters also appeared on the show. Balthazar has three children and one on the way. He said that he went through some health issues with his first son, not unlike what his character on the show dealt with, which made the storyline very moving for him. Dave says that having Sally Field playing his mother “doesn’t suck.” He joked that whenever his mom yells at him on the phone he tells her that Sally wouldn’t do that. Dave is obsessed with his hair and Balthazar joked that there is a whole crew on the show just for his hair.
