March 28th Recap: Patricia Arquette and Macy Gray
Jacque Reid appeared again as guest host. They discussed American Idol and Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that they received “Blaker girl” shirts from current American Idol contestant Blake. They talked about Sanjaya’s wacky hairstyle last night. Joy Behar wondered if the hair is to compensate for his lack of talent. Jacque said that Sanjaya seems to be getting more confidence lately. They also talked about Dancing With the Stars and how it is a bit of popularity contest, so the lesser-known contestants are at more of a risk for getting kicked off.
Monica Goodling, senior adviser to Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez is taking the fifth amendment and won’t be revealing anything about the firing of the U.S. Attorneys. Elisabeth said that they are “criminalizing political differences” and she said that is what happened with the Scooter Libby case. Joy said in the case of Bill Clinton you could argue the same thing. Jacque pointed out that now the big issue is that Gonzalez previously said that he didn’t know anything about the possible illegal motivations for the firings, but now some e-mails have come out that show that he was aware of the situation.
Rosie said that if she were Monica Goodling, she would take the fifth too, because she wouldn’t want to be the fall guy. She said it is like the soldiers at Abu Ghraib who are in prison, while Donald Rumsfeld is off scot-free. Elisabeth said that Rumsfield did not authorize urinating on prisoners and other tactics. Rosie said that his handwriting is on the torture memo. Elisabeth said that he wrote “standing on a box for 10 hours is not so bad” on the “interrogation memo.” Rosie pointed out that it was not like the standing on a box that Elisabeth had to do on Survivor, but it was with a bag over their heads and electrodes attached to their bodies.
Later, Jacque brought up a study that said that more and more marriages are “sexless,” characterized by having sex less than 10 times per year. Elisabeth suggested that couples have so much going on now, that by the time they get to bed they are exhausted. Rosie said that often lesbian couples experience a lack of sexual activity because, in general, men want to have sex more often than women, but if you have two women together it doesn’t happens as often. Joy revealed later that she enjoys phone sex.
Patricia Arquette appeared on the show promote her television show Medium. They showed a clip from the show where she was in the shower and she joked that she had sweatpants on for the scene and wears more clothes “in a nude scene than most people where in their normal life.” She is very crafty and wants to come out with a line of children’s toys that are durable and can be passed through the generations.
Patricia said that when Medium first began, one of the producers told her she had to lose weight for the role, but she thinks that the character, who is a mother of three, should look like her. Patricia likes the topic of her show, as well as the interactions of the family. She believes there really are psychics out there, but that there are a lot of charlatans out there who like to prey on the grieving. Rosie went to a psychic a long time ago and the women accurately predicted many events that have come true in her life. She said that she knew the woman was for real because she refused to take any money from Rosie because she thought the vision was a gift from God.
Macy Gray appeared to promote her new album “Big.” Macy said that the title of her album refers to her “big brain, big heart, and big butt.” She said that she just went to bed an hour ago. She has three kids, aged 12, 11, and 9, and a lot of the songs on the album are about them. She then performed one of the songs from her new album.
