Mario Cantone revels in political incorrectness
Tuesday on “The View,” comedian Mario Cantone was on the show to give his comedic take on the previous night’s Golden Globe awards. He commented that when his favorite show “Ugly Betty” won for best drama, it took the cast a very long time to get to the stage. He said, “If there was a fence in front of their table they’d be up there like that.” He said he knew the comment was “a little offensive,” but that he has to hear gay jokes on a daily basis and is sick of having to be politically correct. Joy Behar, who was interviewing him, didn’t understand the joke, so he said “because they are all Latin.” He went on to say that “if I said there was a fence in front of the table and German Shepherds that would have been even more offensive!”
Do you agree with his line of argument? Is it okay for a comedian to be offensive toward an ethnic group because he is part of a different group that is also the target of negative jokes?

I don’t think that he is right. That is like saying it is ok to be prejudice against someone because people are prejudice against you. I also think people use comedy as a way to say things they really mean, but are afraid to admit. Like oh I didn’t mean that it was just a joke, then why did you say it.
