May 10 Recap: Marie Osmond, Geoffey Rush, and James Pickens, Jr.
Marie Osmond sat in as guest host. Marie is going through a divorce and she joked that she “just lost about 240 pounds” and is feeling good. She was married for twenty years. She has eight children, some of whom are adopted. She said that she can’t remember which ones are adopted because there is no difference.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck mentioned the Dunger family who has seventeen children. Joy Behar said that it is not socially or economically responsible to give birth to that many children. Rosie O’Donnell said that Joy thinks that way because she is an only child and that many only children have a “my way or the highway” attitude. Joy countered back that Rosie has that type of personality more than she does.
Rosie said that now on the news they have spun her words into saying that she is a drunk driver and supports Paris Hilton. Her point was that drunk driving is a horrible thing, but that all adults have done it at one point in their life. Marie said that they never had to worry about that because, as Mormons, they do not drink alcohol. Marie said that big problem today for kids is drugs, especially stealing prescription drugs from their parents.
Joy Behar brought that Al Sharpton said “Those of that really believe in God will defeat Romney for the White House.” Romney is a Mormon and said that the statement could be taken as a bigoted remark. Marie said that she doesn’t understand why people say Mormons don’t believe in Jesus Christ, when the official name of the church is “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”
Marie Osmond is working with the Children’s Miracle Network, which helps fund hospitals to treat children who cannot afford hospital care. You can purchase balloons at various stores and the money will go to a local hospital.
They talked about Lindsay Lohan’s mother, Dina, who was working the red carpet for Lindsay’s movie Georgia Rule. Rosie and Marie both said that it is a sad situation that she is being a stage mother and getting fame off of her daughter. Rosie said that obviously Lindsay is struggling with some addiction issues and Dina should be focused on helping her daughter and not going to events and posing with champagne in Vanity Fair magazine.
Geoffrey Rush appeared on the show to promote Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. He said his character should not be trusted and that he is noble, but horrible. He said that when he was about 40, he went through a period of panic disorders and anxiety attacks and he was on medication. He said that he jokes that the cure was getting an international film career with Shine. He was once roommates with Mel Gibson in Australia in the late 1970s.
James Pickens Jr, Dr. Richard Webber from Grey’s Anatomy appeared on the show. They all tried to get him to say whether he will really be leaving as chief of surgery. He said that we will all just have to wait and see. He said that if he could choose his own replacement it would be Dr. Bailey. He never intended to be an actor and thought he would be an artist. When he was a senior in college, someone came up and told him he looked like an actor, and asked him to be a play and the rest is history. He has spoken with doctors and they said that the show gets it right regarding the amount of sex that takes place in the hospital between the staff.
Editor’s note: Every time there is a guest host now, I wonder if they are “auditioning” for a permanent role. My thoughts on Marie Osmond: She had a few remarks aimed at Joy, so there is a potential for some conflict there, which could be good or bad. She did not seem to be afraid of stating her thoughts and her Mormon roots would give her an interesting perspective on topics. What do you all think of her as a possible host?

I think Marie would be a WONDERFUL host! I enjoy watching her on tv and I love that she is opinionated and smart! Her opinions are relevant unlike some of Joy’s comments.

Marie Osmond is Flawless! I have to admit that when she said that she’d “Just lost about 240 lbs, and she was feeling great”, I almost fell off the sofa. I did not expect her to joke about her soon-to-be ex-husband. I thought it was great! I was really surprised when she said that she should have divorced her husband 7 years ago. But, this is how she should be, saying what’s on her mind. Usually, she will dance around the subject and jump to something else when she wants to avoid the subject. Marie, now I know why you are my Hero! I hope Marie gets to take Rosie O’Donnell’s place on “The View”, she’d be perfect! Marie, you go girl!!!!

I think Marie would be lovely. Sherri Shepherd is a favorite, too. But I’m just counting the days until ROD is no longer able to pollute the troposphere the way she currently does.
