May 23rd Recap: Alicia Silverstone and Elizabeth Mitchell

by

There was more to today’s episode than the fight between Rosie O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Sherri Shepherd was back as guest host, although she did not get too much opportunity to speak today during the hot topics. She did say that she is back with her estranged husband who cheated on her. She revealed that a big part of the reason that she had filed for divorce was because he fathered a child with the other woman. Sherri decided, in part on advice from viewers who said that she should give him another chance, that she would be forgiving and give it another try. They attend marriage counseling three times a week and she is learning a lot about herself.

Alicia Silverstone appeared on the show to talk about her involvement with Silk soy milk and their green caps for energy promotion. If you purchase Silk soy milk with a green cap, go home and type the UPC code on their website, Silk will donate money to buy wind energy. Alicia has been vegan for almost nine years and became that way, in part, because she could never imagine eating her dog. She said that she doesn’t mind if people are vegetarian, but still wear leather, as long as they are doing something.

The most shocking part of her interview was when she first walked onto the stage and completely bypassed Elisabeth Hasselbeck before continuing on to warmly great the other three hosts. It was not a matter of Elisabeth not having her hand out, she clearly just snubbed her. Here is some photographic proof:

Elizabeth Mitchell who plays Juliet on Lost appeared on the show. She said that she does not even know how the season finale tonight will end. She said that she was glad when she received the final script and it had a lot of blank pages, because then she could be surprised too. She is married to a stand-up comedian and they have a 20-month old son called C.J. She said that C.J is already a comedian and does pratfalls to make her laugh. She said that the way she has perfecting her “death stare” is to stare very intently at someone and then think about how to destroy them. Rosie joked that she needed to learn that for the last few weeks that she is on The View.

Guests snubbing Elisabeth has happened before. Just that today it was extra obvious and has added significance. I believe in earlier shows Sara Ramirez and Delta Burke both just hugged Rosie and just kind of acknowledged the others. If Rosie quits the show before her last day, there will be quite a bit of damage control to be done. Rosie tried to leave the show on a high note with good vibes and hopefully an Emmy for the team, but it seems some people would rather create a huge mess. Dumb move.

  2. Sue from NNY Says:

After seeing how the other “hosts” are treating Rosie it makes me wonder if that’s how they ran Star Jones out? Barbra seems to be losing it…And EH is just showing her snotty, catty side that she has kept under wraps from the public.

  3. Shannon Says:

I felt such anger today and yesterday watching Elizabeth set Rosie up…like she’d just come back from some Fox sponsored empowerment retreat. I wanted to snap her finger off the way she kept pointing it in everyones face. She is the epitome of backstabbing b*tch. Good for Alicia for snubbing her, I’ll have to YouTube that one.

  4. kc Says:

Star didn’t bring the ratings and crossed Barbara intentionally. She made her own trouble. But Rosie brought the ratings, decided to leave on her own and complemented Barbara just the other day for hiring her, but still the claws from Joy (during the Emmy discussion this week) and now Elisabeth came out. It’s rather pathetic that Elisabeth would kowtow to the talking heads at Fox rather than preserve the integrity of her own show. The show would suffer once Rosie leaves but for Rosie to leave on a bad note would do way more damage.

[...] by Winnie McCarthy Here is a video from YouTube of Alicia Silverstone on The View on May 23rd. As I mentioned before, when she came onto the stage, she completely snubbed Elisabeth Hasselbeck, but then greeted the [...]

  6. Katie Says:

I thought it was very rude of Alicia Silverstone. It shows extreme immaturity to act that way on a show she was a guest on. I like Rosie and I like Elizabeth their debates are what makes this show; however, I do not like the way that they talk over each other. They need a system to cut the cross talk. I do not like Joy though, ever notice she is the only one that laughs at her jokes.

  7. Tracey Says:

    Katie
She doesn’t have to hug anyone. She gave her a friendly smile and that’s nice of her if she doesn’t like Elizabeth. Some people would have given her an angry look and she didn’t.

  8. a mom Says:

CANNOT SAY IT ENOUGH…..IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE THE SAME WAY THEY DO……YOU ARE HATED. Alicia is a prime example of taking VIEWS PERSONALLY just like ROSIE. Hate the views, not the people

  9. miatalover Says:

i saw that too and said joy started this yesterday, why? i thought she and rosie were
friends. elizabeth was way out of line
and should have answered rosie;s question.
it is too bad it has come to this . why does
eh wear such low cut tops when she is always cold and that horrible tan ? i would have done the same thing that alicia did. eh is a very rude lady

  10. mandy Says:

let’s not forget this ALL STARTED when Rosie REFUSED TO ANSWER ELISABETH’S QUESTION…..Rosie made an insinuation about our troops, and then tried to back peddle, and expected her co-worker to defend her actions. Sad

  11. kc Says:

Rosie made no insinuation. She stated a published fact about the number of Iraqi casualty and asked people to think about it! (Gasp!) Who are the terrorists? And Fox spun that into a slanderous comment. Elisabeth only repeated Fox’s talking point. Now the real question about The View’s situation is: Who is the villain here? To me, it is clearly Elisabeth and the people who enabled her. Elisabeth should have known better from knowing Rosie’s contribution to help wounded soldiers that what Fox News said was outrageous. Instead, she acted like a fool and probably lost a friend on live television.

  12. jazmin Says:

I dont think rosie will be back…..just went to the abc the view website….and at the top it has a listing to emial the ladies from the view …and rosies name is not there….but her picture is still up….i hope rosie does her own show…and wins a daytime emmy the first year……..jazz

  13. JR Says:

Jazmin, where have you been? Rosie’s e-mail has never been among the options one can write to on the show’s site. She is so polarizing that she would probably shut down the servers with the volume of e-mail ABC would get from people taking her to task for her diatribes. She should consider herself fortunate for having had such a forum for this long. When she joined, I predicted the show wouldn’t last 18 months with her commandeering every conversation. I never could have predicted it could sink to such lows. I was a huge Lisa Ling fan, but Elisabeth has added something that has been needed for far too long on this show. The View has never recovered from Meredith’s departure. She must be laughing all the way to the bank everytime she cashes a check from NBC.
