May 3rd Recap: Jenny McCarthy and Marcia Cross
Jenny McCarthy sat in as guest host today. She talked about how she lost sixty pounds after the birth of her son Evan, with help from Weight Watchers.
Her son, who will be five soon, has been diagnosed with autism. She said that he has “come a long way.” She has written a book about autism that will be out this September. She said that she is going to be back in a few months and she is going to use her “big, giant, controversial mouth to blow the lid off of a lot things relating to autism and to give moms hope.”
Joy Behar said that Bill O’Reilly reportedly insults someone every 6.8 seconds. Rosie said that when she went on his show many years ago, to talk about adoption laws in Florida, she thought it went well. She said that since she inadvertently mentioned his controversy on the air, she has become his enemy number one.
Joy said that once you have an opinion, there will automatically be people who love you and people who hate you. She said that is why The View has never won an Emmy: there is always one of them that people don’t like. Rosie said they haven’t won before because they haven’t talked about political issues as much as they have this year. Joy said that they used to talk to about controversial things, but it didn’t draw the attention that Rosie has. Rosie says it is because she is “very loud.”
Rosie said that when she came on the show, she told Barbara Walters that she would love for them to win the Emmy. Barbara said “we’ll never win.” Rosie said that is the wrong attitude and that they should strive to be the best that they can in their field. Elisabeth said that it is more important to her that the audience likes the show than whatever committee decides the Emmy Awards. She also said, “I think we have a shot.”
There is a debate of the Republican Presidential candidates tonight. Joy is waiting for Rudy Giuliani to answer the question about “family values,” because of his scandals. He has had three marriages, one to his first cousin. According to Joy, he also announced that he was leaving his wife Donna Hanover on television and she didn’t even know. Elisabeth said that she doesn’t know if those issues will play into this election as much, because we are in a forgiving society right now. She said that the big issues are going to be safety and the war on terror.
Marcia Cross of Desperate Housewives appeared on the show. She gave birth to fraternal twins, Savannah and Eden, in February. She said, “I am so deliriously happy, I can’t even breathe.” She said that many years ago, she tried to get pregnant on her own, but it didn’t happen. During that process, she heard a voice or something telling her that she would have a child named Savannah. When she got pregnant with the twins, her husband sent her an e-mail saying that he heard a name that would be great and it was Savannah. The name Eden came to her while she was having a massage.
Joy said that Marcia is nothing like her character Bree on Desperate Housewives. Marcia said that if she was like her character, she doesn’t think her husband would be interested in her. She just went back to work last week and it was an adjustment. She was on bedrest during the last months of her pregnancy, so the show was filmed at her house. Marcia said that the only time she gets to watch TV now is when she pumps her breast milk, so she tapes The View to watch it during those times.
Marcia was 190 pounds when she went into the hospital and was down to 150 two weeks later. She had a cesarean section and she can’t believe that women say that it is easy, because it was difficult. Jenny McCarthy said that she had one too and “it was horrible.” Rosie’s wife Kelli also had a c-section and Rosie said that she was in bed for awhile afterward. Rosie said that she was in the room when Kelli had her c-section and that if you don’t believe in God, you should watch a baby being born and it will change your perspective. She added that “it was really the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed in my life.” Jenny added that “you feel your heart explode.” Joy joked that the babies are better looking after a c-section because they don’t get squished.
Marcia has been working with Olay on a skin cancer awareness campaign. You can go to their website and get a free skin cancer screening for you and a friend.
Eric Mabius, of Ugly Betty, also appeared on the show. He says that he likes to be on a show where he doesn’t have to be naked as much as he did on The L Word. His character, Daniel, is on a slippery slope right now and things are going to get worse for him before they get better. He said that when people ask him if his character will ever hook up with Betty, he points out other shows, like Cheers, that went downhill when the main characters got together.
He has a 10 month old baby and helped in the delivery by pulling the baby out. He was scared he was going to drop him because he was like a “greasy bowling ball.” He met his wife in sex ed class in high school, although they didn’t date until later. He works with the charity America’s Second Harvest, which is a food bank that helps people throughout the country. He said that one out of every four people in a soup kitchen line is a child. He says he finds that much more meaningful now that he has a child of his own.

[...] “Into the Woods” promo and Marcia on “The View” May 4th, 2007 by Marilyn Porter In case you missed it, Marcia Cross was on “The View” yesterday! There, she talked quite a bit about her twins and the show. She talked about where she got the names Eden and Savannah and how she’d tried for many years on her own to get pregnant with no success. She also talked about having a c-section and how it wasn’t as easy as some people had led her to believe. Since a great deal of the women there had had c-sections (or watched someone have one, in the case of Rosie), there was some discussion about them. She also talked about returning to the show and her skin cancer awareness campaign with Oil of Olay. It’s so nice to see her in the media’s eye once again. I’m looking forward to getting Bree back on the show. [...]
