May 4th Recap: Edie Falco, Peter Krause, and Judy Gold
Comedienne Judy Gold sat in as guest host. She has a new book called 25 Questions For a Jewish Mother, which was also the name of her one-woman show. She said that her mother is the most negative person in the world and likes Joy Behar better than her.
Judy Gold said that she knew she knew she was a lesbian when she was about 3 or 4. Rosie said that she first thought maybe she was when she was in the 4th grade and she had a crush on her friend’s older sister. Joy added that she played “doctor” with a girl when she was little, but she is not a lesbian. Judy said that there is a spectrum, so maybe Joy is not completely straight. Rosie said that when she was 28, she lived with a man. She had never been with a man until that point, but was with him for about a year and a half. She said that all her lesbian friends were really nice about it, even though she thought it was strange that she had fallen in love with a man.
Judy had two sons, Henry and Ben, and she said that she doesn’t understand why they are always fighting, like kicking each other in the testicles, and then hugging. She said “it is always fight-love-fight.” Judy gave birth to one son and her ex-partner, Wendy, gave birth to other. One time Joy asked her if they were both drowning if she would save Ben, the one she gave birth to, first.
Judy said that when she and Wendy broke up they didn’t tell the boys right away. Judy went on Rosie’s cruise with just the boys and they had a great time. When they back, they told the boys that they were breaking up. Henry was very upset because he thought they couldn’t go on the cruise again next year because Judy was “just divorced” and “not gay anymore.”
Elisabeth Hasselbeck said she will be off on Monday because she is going to the State dinner for the Queen of England. She said there is a rule that you have to stop eating when the Queen stops eating. She said she will need binoculars because she will be so far away from her. She is unsure of what she is supposed to do in the receiving line, so Joy suggested she do a fist-bump. She is extremely nervous.
The show was taped earlier in the week, so there was no discussion about the previous night’s GOP debate. I am sure they will talk about it on Monday (or maybe Tuesday when Elisabeth returns).
Edie Falco of The Sopranos appeared on the show. The Sopranos is in its 10th and final year. Edie said that she already missed the cast and crew and it has only been two weeks since she saw them last. She didn’t know she would be “that person,” but ended up crying at the close of shooting. She took some hideous plaques off the wall in the kitchen and took them home with her. Edie said that every season the show’s creator told her that she was too thin and had to gain weight. She lost and gained weight several times. They filmed several different endings to the show and she doesn’t know which one they will chose. There is a rumor that her character might “get whacked,” but she didn’t say whether it was true or not.
Edie said that she is “a little gun shy” about doing another television show, but wants to do a play. She has also gotten a lot of scripts and a lot of it is very good.
Peter Krause appeared on the show to promote his new film Civic Duty. The movie is about a man who thinks his neighbor is a terrorist. It is patterned after Alfred Hitchcock’s film Rear Window. It explores the line between justifiable suspicion and racial profiling. He has just finished a pilot called Dirty Sexy Money for ABC. It is about a wealthy family on the east coast. He plays the family’s attorney. He said the show is a drama, but it is also very funny. He did sketch comedy many years on The Carol Burnett Show. He has a five-year-old son called Roman who is a “very funny kid.”
Dr. Fredric Brandt, a cosmetic dermatologist and the author of 10 Minutes, 10 Years: Your Definitive Guide to a Beautiful and Youthful Appearance, appeared on the show. He has tips of easy things you can do to make yourself look younger.
