My Farewell to the View and You

by

winnie-on-beach

Winnie taking a little time to enjoy the view.

I thought about making this a gradual thing and sort of petering off my involvement with this site, but then I decided it was better to just pull off the band-aid and be done.

As of today, I am leaving Watching the View.

Now before your minds start churning with ideas of corporate take-down or external pressure, you should know that this decision was all mine. I have just reached the point where I don’t like having to watch The View or write about it or even think about it.

When I started this site in January 2007, it was for one specific reason: Rosie O’Donnell had made the show the very essence of must-see-TV. And not because of the “feuds” or the arguments, but because she is one of the most engaging personalities in the world of television and she does not hesitate to give her (real, honest, not spoon-fed or prefabricated) views.

After her departure, I stayed with this site after some hesitation, mostly because I enjoyed the community that had been created here. Because of you. That and because I really thought that The View would get better than it was in the initial wake of her absence. Two years later I am still waiting.

The show unfortunately has been extremely predictable and a caricature, with each host fitting in her pigeon-hole saying things we expect them to say, whether they truly believe it or not. When I think of the show I no longer think about anything positive, but dwell on Whoopi Goldberg’s disinterest in the guests, whining about taxes and running out on the stage to steal food in EVERY FOOD SEGMENT, the fact that Joy Behar does not even write the stale one-liners she is so fond of and cannot stop telling Monica jokes, the fact that Barbara Walters might no longer be remembered for being a TV icon, but rather for being that aging journalist who has stayed on way too long and doesn’t realize that she is embarrassing herself, Sherri Shepherd spending the majority of the time she speaks talking about how she needs a man when really she needs to be focusing on loving herself and determining what is truly important to her and not letting her religion or others tell her what to believe, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck . . . well she never did have any bright spot for me to begin with. The joy in View-ville is long gone and I do not think it is coming back.

Although the amount of money I make on this site is a barely minimum wage level given the amount of time I have to put into it, I have stuck with it anyway because of a desire to maintain the community and because others seemed to enjoy it more than I did.

Most of you have no idea what goes on behind-the-scenes, but running this blog is no easy feat. I have tried not to care about keeping the peace, not bother weeding out the negativity, ignoring all the hate e-mail and bickering, but I just cannot become detached enough from the blog because I know that what others write can affect many of you negatively and I do not want that.

I know that many of you will be saddened to have lost this place to vent, communicate, and share ideas. You are welcome to continue to post here, although I do not know if they will be hiring a new writer. You can also post comments at my other View blog which will remain up for now, although I won’t be posting there either. (I will be re-posting this entry there as well in case the powers that be here take this down for some reason).

While I am certain those at ABC who are aware of this little blog are happy to see me go because it means more people have to actually watch the show to know what happens on it, I hope that you all think about whether you need The View in your lives anymore. There are many other ways you can spend your time that will be healthier, more enlightening, or at the very least more entertaining.

Thank you all for your support over the years. My e-mail address is: winnieblogs @ gmail.com

WOW, Winnie. This site will be sorely missed.
OTOH I can really understand your closing it down. I admire your integrity and agree wholeheartedly with your reasons for doing so.

Best of luck on your new endeavors and thank you so much for your efforts with this sinking ship. The recaps were grrreat and I always enjoyed your special insights and humor.

  2. tracy Says:

    Winnie,

You did a great job on this site, but if your heart isn’t in it, then good for you for moving on. And you’re exactly right about what the show has become. It’s totally time for some competition. What I wouldn’t give to see Rosie come back with a talk show in the same format at the View and bring some life, intelligence, and spontaneity back to daytime. Rosie really was the best thing that happened to the View.

  3. stephanie Says:

Thank you for being honest with us Winnie, I completely understand your frustration. The show never did get back to the level it once was at (contrary to what BW believes). You did a great job with the site, thanks for everything :)

  4. MiamiVision Says:

Oh well, Winnie - all good things must come to an end. I just want to thank you for this site for the past 2 years (for me is close to 2 years-I read for months before I ever posted), and thank you for giving us this place. Some of us hooked up in email so we still have that.

I do get your feelings about The View. I don’t watch anymore, nor have I in a very.long.time. I sometimes watch Ellen on Lester’s Yakety Yak or an Oprah segment or 2. I never watch The View segments EVER. If Rosie was sthere, that would be an entirely different story for me, because I WOULD watch.

So, thanks again, and all the best of luck to you in your future!!

  5. tracy Says:

Hey folks, once this site closes where do you think we should go. TWOP’s moderators are Nazis. This is actually the place I come to say what I really feel. You can’t do that at TWOP.

  6. NanW. Says:

Bravo, Winnie, bravo!! So glad that you are being true to yourself and living your life as you see fit. I will miss some of the wonderful people that have posted here and especially your wonderful recaps. I will no longer watch this train wreck either. Time for a more positive view! Take care, Winnie.

  7. Random Musings Says:

Thanks, Winnie…for all your good writing and reporting. As one who taped the show before I retired to see Meredith, Star, Joy and Lisa actually discuss things, I have missed that show. What is on now is unwatchable. I appreciate your updates and all the time and effort you put into this blog.

  8. berndoubt Says:

Thanks for everything, Winnie. I will miss meeting up with the crazy bunch around here, but it was getting to be time for me to stop watching the train wreck that The View has become. You’ve just made it MUCH easier for me, because one of the few reasons I even watched was to hang with the crew here!

While I have no idea what it takes to run a blog, I want you to know I appreciate every minute of your time and all of your effort. You’ve made this a great place to be! Best of luck in everything you do!

  9. Carmella Says:

Good for you Winnie. Thanks for your blog.
Not watching the view - toxic. Warm wishes.

  10. susan brown Says:

Goodbye Winnie - Thanks for all the work you have done and I really appreciated it. Your listing why you have stopped doing such a wonderful job are basically why I have almost stopped watching The View. Please take care and have a wonderful rest of your life!!! Best wishes to you.

  11. marilyn Says:

The day your new blog was posted at Rosie’s site, I became a faithful member. I had been a fan of The View, from its original air date.
The blog started out to be “the icing on the cake”. As time went by, the blog became the cake and the icing.
Thank you , Winnie. Best wishes in all you View.

  12. marilyn Says:

    #5 Tracy says-

“Hey folks, once this site closes where do you think we should go. ”

    RESPONSE:

I would like to know ,too.
I filed a “practice” comment at Winnie’s other blog. But…..
Maybe we can stay right here.

  13. Pepperbird Says:

    Winnie,

Thanks for your meticulous blogs and hard work. I enjoyed all the new friends and acquaintances I’ve met here, and have been impressed with the worldwide attention your blog regularly receives. I agree with tracy (above) that “This is actually the place I come to say what I really feel. You can’t do that at TWOP.”

Good luck in all your future endeavors!

Why do all good things in this life have to come to an end?

  14. Jenny From Australia Says:

Winnie, thank you so much for your hard work and time you have spent on this website. You are truley amazing.

thank you and all the very best for the future.
    Your fan from australia
    Jenny.

  15. Vickie Says:

Winnie, thank you for your time and your efforts here; you’re a terrific writer. I appreciate your integrity tremendously. I tried a couple of times to leave but was always drawn back due to the interesting conversation. It actually helped me to question and to clarify what I believe politically and as a fellow traveler through this gift of life and relationship. I have to say that in the past couple of months the responses here (by a few) became more embarrassing to read than the show was to watch. So unfortunate but again you stepped in and you leave with my admiration. I wish some of your posters a fond good bye. I so enjoyed the wit and the smarts that many of your regulars demonstrated, I will miss their posts. Thanks again Winnie for your hard work - relax and enjoy the summer. Best to you!

  16. msroncon Says:

    Winnie,

I could not agree with you more. I have been watching Hoda and Kathie Lee more and more.

I find myself not being entertained by this group and wanted to throw up when they were named as one of the Top 100.

Whoopie could not be any more disinterested. Sherri has to be the spoken voice of blacks everywhere. I mean even her movies, such as the one coming out, is so anti-white. I remember people wanted her on because she was so funny saying she wanted to kill her husbanc (haha) now she’s got a new sitcom and down she goes.

EH should’nt be on at all. She acts as if she is just “so young” that she doesn’t understand some of what everyone says. But she sure seems to be a know it all about Republicanitis.

Joy is a younger version of Joan Rivers. Not really funny, just makes me feel uncomfortable with her barbs. This “old humor” sucks. Actually Joan can be funny at least.

Barbara is pimp for her book. Maybe not the best language, but just shows you how easy it is to write a book, if they all have one. Sherri will soon I’m sure.

Last but not least…all of the writers who think they are on the cutting edge of Hot Topics. Thanks for letting us see behind the scenes. We can’t blame everything on the women of the view. Rosie at least made a stand and took her earpiece out.

The fashion dept is just awful. Joy is never in anything that doesn’t make her tug or shrug. Other than being ugly clothes. EH also. So many cute clothes out there and everyone but Barbara looks good. I’m sure she brings her own clothes.

Sherri needs to wear her size and down play the breasts that are just unsightly, but she thinks they make her in every way.

And last bu not least, Bill Gedde, the viewmaster or rather the puppetmaster. Good riddence.

Winnie I’m done too. I actually stopped reading on this site and only found out you were leaving because of Twitter. So I don’t blame you a bit.

The show leaves a person feeling uptight and confrontational. I fly down the hall sometime to post a comment and my boyfriend says “OMG, what happened on the View now”. I don’t want to feel like that anymore.

Winnie, you did a great job. See you on Twitter.

    Rhonda Cleveland, OH

  17. Stacee Says:

I saw this coming. I don’t know how, but something told me this was coming. I’ve noticed in your writings, you seemed to lose passion and interest.

I recapped the View at Rain’s site for a very short time. It was during that time period that I said I can’t watch this show anymore.

Recapping is indeed hard work, I admire you so much for doing it as long as you did. The show has significantly declined during the past two years, for the reasons you cited above; same old, same old.

You have been an incredible moderator these past few months. I’m sorry you received hate mail and people were nasty towards you. You didn’t deserve that.

Thanks for sticking with it as long as you did. You provided a place for me to vent and share my feelings with others. You also made this a place where I could connect with some of the most warm hearted, funniest and most passionate individuals!

Thanks for all you did here on a daily basis. (((HUGS))) :-)

  18. Kelly Says:

    Fair Winds Winnie –

This site was so much more than a “View” chat board. And you were so much more than its writer and moderator. You lead by example and your displays of autonomy and silence spoke volumes.

Your blog became a battleground during our historic election, and I was proud to be a part of a community that was so vocal about the direction our country needed to go. As you said, “I know this site has a lot of passionate, intelligent, and insightful readers. Focus that and use it to change the world, change something in your town, or maybe just something in your life.”

And if this site should cease to exist as people leave “The View” and the dark cloud behind – if the community flutters off – I will miss all of them as well. I’ve made many friends on this site and for that I’m grateful.

Thank you for the forum, the fun, and the frustrations you’ve allowed us to express. On those occasions when discussions got too personal or venting went too far – I regret that you got pulled into the crossfire.

I admire you Winnie – and thank you for the sound advice you leave behind.

You will be thought of often.

  19. Stacee Says:

By the way, Winnie; Excellent picture. And it’s so fitting :-)

  20. Michele Says:

Thanks for everything, Winnie! I didn’t post much, but I read your re-caps everyday. Honestly, I can’t get through an episode of The View since Rosie left, so I relied on your re-caps. I totally understand your reasons for leaving. Please take care, and take time to enjoy your view.

  21. ShannonP Says:

Smart move Winnie. It’s not healthy to have a daily obligation to a negative source. Good luck in new pursuits!

  22. heatherspeaks Says:

    oh my goodness.
    winnie, you will be missed.
i understand why you cannot do this blog anymore.
in recent months, i’ve cut back on watching the view dramatically since.
    i’ll miss the recaps.
i’ll miss the wonderful posters who come to your blog.
thanks for providing this outlet for many who enjoy respect-filled dialogue.
    thank you again, winnie.
p.s. the kitty pic was cute.

  23. Roger from Ohio Says:

    Winnie–

You will be missed….. This place is more than a blog… it is a community. One that wouldnt be what it is without you.

Pepperbird made the quote that pretty much all of us think…. even thought we all understand why you are leaving… Why do all good things in this life have to come to an end?

The show doesnt live up to its expectation any longer….. I watch it so I can come here and be informative because there are so many thoughtful and intelligent women here, I didnt want to embarrass myself.

The View is a trainwreck…. this we all know….. Winnie, you made this site wonderful and the show bearable. Sorry that the trolls got to you…. you never deserved “hate mail”

I want to also share my love to all the posters in here. you will all be missed.

If anyone wants to keep in touch with me, send an email to Winnie….. She did provide that service in the past to forward emails to those that wanted to share….. If not, I wish peace to you all.

Your site will be missed Winnie….. always know that…. you did a wonderful thing…. so many of us cant say that.

  24. mokka Says:

Oh no! I haven’t been posting here long, but I’ve grown to enjoy coming here to let off some steam without worrying about consequences and repercussions.

Still, I totally understand where you’re coming from Winnie. Life’s too short to be stuck doing something you no longer have a passion for. Good luck in your future endeavours. :)

  25. lynn c Says:

Winnie, you will be missed! I just got back from vacation and haven’t watched The View in several days. Did NOT miss it as it is ridiculous. You, I shall miss….good luck to you!

  26. dana Says:

Thank you Winnie, I gave up watching The View a few months ago, I was only reading this website because it was so entertaining and you did such a great job. Then I gave up commenting because The View isn’t worth my time. I truly believe the show has become about the personal benefits the hosts can reap from the show. I don’t get the feeling that they care at all about the audience. I agree with everything that you said but you can articulate it 100 times better than I can. Thank you again. May all our roads cross again when Rosie finds the right daytime vehicle.

  27. mokka Says:

But before the site goes away, can we talk about the verbal ass whooping Bitsy received courtesy of Jesse Ventura? It was a thing of beauty. :)

  28. June Says:

    Winnie,

I stopped watching around the New Year, and don’t miss it anymore at all! I completely understand. I have stopped by here a few times since and for some reason was lucky enough to stop by today. I’m glad to have the chance to wish you well. The picture is so perfect and that “View” much more worth while! Best wishes to you and thank you for all you have done here.
    <3

  29. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #27 mokka–

But before the site goes away, can we talk about the verbal ass whooping Bitsy received courtesy of Jesse Ventura? It was a thing of beauty.

It was great…. if it would have been anyone else making those strong arguments, Bill Geddie would have made Whoopi break for commercial and end the thumping.

But that chicken hawk was afraid that Jesse would open that can of whoop ass and present it to Billie boy.

    Well done Jesse.

  30. rainlillie Says:

    Winnie,
The Views standards may have slipped, but your standards remained high. Best of luck with all your future endeavors

  31. NanC Says:

Winnie, wow, what can I say that has not already been said, you will be missed bigtime. This blog has so many intelligent, thoughtful people, I will miss reading their thoughts as well.

Is there anywhere else we can get together & keep up thise spirited discussions???

All the best to you Winnie in your future endeavours ((((Winnie))))))

  32. marilyn Says:

I will still watch the view ( selectively ).
I had a doctors appt. this morning and have not watched my DVR of today’s show…. I will keep checking in, and see if there is some action here, after I watch the recording.
Mokka - you have “wet my whistle” regarding Jesse V.

  33. Pepperbird Says:

Hi All, Winging back briefly to tell you I post sometimes on several TWoP sites and I think you can send messages a la email to posters like me there. I plan to try to comment sometimes on the View there if inspired to do so. I *won’t* be commenting or even reading the ABC board on this show. That site would be a “valentine” to BW and EH especially, and won’t reflect all points of view, I am sure.

Take care, all you wonderful peeps–I miss you already–maybe this site will continue if someone new wants to recap?

  34. marilyn Says:

ROGER- Thanks for your input. I think many of us are feeling “alone” this morning.

    NanC - ITA

  35. marilyn Says:

    Pepperbird

I hope we can stay right here.

Thanks for sharing your blogging locations. See Ya .

  36. marthe Says:

Winnie, I’m sad but I understand. Pre-election passion led to hysterical emails, then you weren’t getting paid and then you feel it has settled down but the hosts are still phony. My guess is babs mentioned her book one more time and Winnie said “I’m done.”

Whoa sherri just sat in it. planned parenthood coerced her to have an abortion?

I hate that quasi-argument well some women have felt just terribly about the experience. my sister went away to camp and cried to come home homesick. I had a great time at my camp.

the jesse part is already up on youtube. you’re talking about apples and oranges. bits: i’m against torture, but for enhanced interrogation.” Jesse [paraphrasing]: if you put lipstick on a pitbull, it is still a stupid bitch.”

  37. marthe Says:

After I got banned from TWOP [jeez i thought my first two warnings would expire after a year or two, like speeding points on your driver's license], I did join survivor sucks, which has a comment site for the view in the subcategory “other shows that suck,” but it is kinda moribund.

I’m guessing that they have a new fashion stylist fresh out of college, because dangly costume earrings seem so early 20s.

She has some boring parts, but Bonnie Hunt I think is the best talk show host. She is as genuine as they come. She thinks part of her job is to be welcoming to the guest. She is empathetic like obama, let us find our commonalities, like pets or families. And she comes from improv, so her zingers I think are her own.

  38. gonnavent Says:

    Winnie-

So sad to see you go. You have been awesome!

Well, for all those people who want a new place to comment - a while ago I set up a view blog but then never used it. still sitting there - hmmmmmm - maybe I’ll take up the torch for a year…..

  39. Pepperbird Says:

    Yay gonnavent!!

  40. Kelly Says:

If you want to do it gonnavent – I would be happy to commit to one recap a week.

We still have one more iron in the fire…

  41. Vegas Says:

I will miss this blog a lot. I always look forward to the posts here. Winnie, can anyone take over this blog for you instead of closing it?

  42. Mary Evans Says:

That would be terrific gonnavent! just finished today’s show and there is SO MUCH to say!

  43. NanC Says:

    WOW gonnavent

That would be so awesome if we could meet on your site, terrific.

Jesse sure knew how to “deal” with Bitsy, totally WOW!!!!

  44. gonnavent Says:

    Awesome ladies!

I’ll totally do it! Heck - why not. Yes, anyone who would like to offer to do a recap once a week e-mail me at contact@theviewtvreportcard.com

    we’ll get it going!

  45. kellyjo Says:

Winnie, when I first started coming on this site, I had questions and a few problems getting my comments posted. I emailed you and you were extremely kind and patient with me. I thank you for that.

Best of luck in your future endeavors. You deserve to be happy at whatever you choose to do.

  46. Cassy Says:

I rarely post and hardly ever watch the show. I was an infrequent visitor who just loved reading the comments.

Winnie, I promise to pick three things from your list of alternatives to the View and do them this week. Thank you and best of luck!

  47. mibi Says:

winnie your great and will be missed but you got to live your life. It has been real. xoxo best wishes.

  48. AC Says:

Well Winnie, like Cassy I hardly ever watched the show and was an infrequent visitor but I’m glad you are going! You sound far too intelligent and talented to waste your time on this pathetic show and even worse, a site to it. Rock on girl and congratulations on breaking free. The first step is admitting you have a problem, after that it is all good!

  49. gonnavent Says:

I put a post up at my blog for today’s show - feel free to comment there….click on my name for link.

  50. JoeyfromSC Says:

Winnie, thanks for all of your hard work while you were here!

I whole-heartedly agree with you!! It is rather a chore to watch now lol

Rosie brought that fun, exciting element just by being herself..and it is missed!:(

    Good luck to you!

  51. Stacee Says:

    Thank you gonnavent!!!

  52. Joey Says:

Winnie, thank you so very much for all your efforts. They enabled us to not only discuss The View, but to establish a community that has included mostly wonderful people and their great comments. I will miss the opportunity to share my opinions and thoughts, but also I will miss the kind words and encouragement given to myself and others by so many who come to this site.

I understand your reasons for leaving the blog, and I look forward to hearing about your new ventures. Good luck to you Winnie and thanks again…

  53. May Says:

Thank you, Winnie, for a great run and blog!
Don’t blame you a bit for taking an exit at this time. You worked hard and made it look easy for us posters.
I’ll miss reading your ideas and many of the posters here.
I missed the smackdown of EH by Jesse V. today, also had dr appt but HOORAY for Jesse! He doesn’t put up with much bull.
On another note, yesterday the book of EH was in # 6 on the NY Times list. Slipping.

  54. Danielle Says:

    Thanks Winnie-
I totally understand how you feel. I use to post comments quite frequently, but have not done so in a couple of months, because I can’t bare to watch the view anymore. It’s hard to listen to people that are soooo misinformed, and uneducated as the view hosts. No wonder our society is slowly drowning. Winnie you believe in facts and the power of knowledge, and there’s too many people in our country that would rather be dumb than learn something.

Thank you all for the kind words. They mean a lot to me.

To clarify, the blog is staying even though I am leaving. 451 press may hire someone new. If not, the posts will all continue to stay up as far as I know. That has been the case for other sites on the network. I will be happy to pass on your name/email if you are interested in writing, but I don’t know that they will take my suggestions anyway.

    QUESTION :
What Is the one more iron in the fire ?
Is it the option of staying on this blog site?

  60. lilkunta Says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I will miss you Winnie! I loved how you replied to my comments here & via email.

Thanks for your meticulous recaps. I dont know the amount of time it took to run this blog but Im so appreciative that you did.

As much traffic as you get I thought you’d @ least earn mimi wage.

I agree that TV is boring.
I watch from 11-11:20a then stop. The ladies interviews suck.

  61. May Says:

Stacee #52. Thanx for the Jesse beats the crud out of bleached blond loudmouth, know it all twit! She doesn’t know when to back off and it was good to have Jesse talk her down and speak louder when she tried that “Look!” shoutdown.
    That is a feelgood moment.

  62. misslingdow Says:

Winnie– Thanks for the memories!! I enjoyed the recaps and the podcasts!!

  63. lurker315 Says:

Winnie - Thanks for all your efforts. I didn’t post often, but read the board everyday. I’m sadly deleting you from my favorites. Good luck in your future endeavors. Your wit will be missed.

  64. red Says:

I’m sad to see you go, Winnie. But i understand. Thank you for providing your great re-caps and making this such a wonderful place to share thoughts and silly comments with such awesome, interesting people. :)

  65. marthe Says:

Lol, Bonnie Hunt just had a joke giveaway. She had some squirrel video and then said guess what? Every audience member is going home with a squirrel!

And now she just said in response to brooke shields saying you’ve got puppies, why yes it is a new bra, thank you for noticing. pure funny, not tacky.

Lol, one last abortion comment. Some women feel bad about it? Gee, that is unfortunate. Some women can’t handle running a jackhammer or being a soldier, does that mean all women should be banned from being in the military?

bits and her well some women are just having abortions because it is convenient. so what? get your nose out of my business. miss california got breast implants because it was convenient to enable her to go further in pageants.

I’ve never had an abortion or breast implants and I would not be happy if anybody I know had either.

  66. Sandy Says:

    Winnie,
I haven’t had much time lately to read and comment, but, I sure am going to miss you, and this blog. I send you all my VERY BEST heartfelt wishes.
I thank you for all the hard work and time you put into this site. .
Also, I thank you for the several good friendships I’ve developed here. Without your site, those wouldn’t have come about.

  67. Sandy Says:

I just went back to read the comments.

    # 38 & 44 gonnavent,
    THANK YOU

    # 56 Winnie,
Okay, thanks, I don’t think it would seem the same without you though.
Best wishes again for a happy, healthy and prosperous future.

Don’t feel disloyal… gonnavent has a great site and I will feel much better about posting there if I know you are there…I don’t have a link but if you clink on gonnavent’s earlier post there you are…I would hate to miss all that you make me think about

  69. msroncon Says:

I went and did it. I watched today’s View on the website.

Elisabeth says she knows a lot of very smart, capabale 15 year olds that could raise a baby??? Again shows her ignorance.

Sherri actually asking Joy ” Is the milk ok for a 66 year old?” Like it’s sitting in there for 40 years waiting. Sherri should not have any children. She’s too childlike to raise Jeffrey.

Loved how Joy said that many grandmothers are raising children. Sherri said before that she has plenty that she knows. I hope they give her grief for what she said.

    Dear Winnie ~~~

Thank you so much for all of your efforts on Watching The View. This site has truly meant so much to me. Please know that you have played a vital role in bringing people together, and providing a wonderful vehicle for us to feel that our thoughts and ideas matter.

I wish you all the best for the future - health, happiness, success. Please stay in touch at Gonnavent’s site - and let us know what you are up to .

    Sincerely~Diane from NJ
Ps. And thanks for linking me to dear new friends around the country - and for allowing me to change my screen name early on so I would not be confused with some others….Hearts & Hugs to you.

  71. Lajet Says:

Winnie - I wish you the best of things, and TOTALLY understand. I believe I have mused in the past about how you could stand to watch The View in recent years. I gave up long ago. You spoke of your committment to the lovely community that has developed. You have been good to us to keep it this long.
I came back today to see about what was written about the Jesse Ventura segment and found your announcement. I’m sad you won’t be here when I want it, but it’s pretty selfish, and unreasonable for me to want you to stay for my convenience, and I don’t want that for you.

Again, best wishes, and thanks for the lovely community and great ride.

  72. Elsie Says:

Thanks, Winnie. It’s been fun. Good Luck. :(

  73. Marie Says:

wow gonnavent! just went to your site. The View Report looks great! Thank you.

  74. Elsie Says:

BW grilling EE for not spending her ‘last days’ w/her children. “How long do you have?” !!!!???. Her book was NOT about JE’s infidelity, but EE decided to include a little bit of it. HOWEVER, the whole interview turned to that.*****Glen Beck today, oy! Very interesting. *** The ladies must know WTV stopped recapping.

  75. monica Says:

Ditto….Shannon, Roger and many others regarding the fantastic job Winnie has done….

I have not watched the View for some time and just happen to have TV on this morning….I find it disgusting….

I did feel there was a sense of community…..among many of us….something we have so little of in the insanity of this world today…

People I don’t know what your thinking is….but I have come to the conclusion most citizens who say they care……value party above their country, their family….and this to me is sad….it is so apparent that most of the people we have voted into office put party above everything…..and nothing will ever change…..while those who are making earnest efforts are villified or out right lied about.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO COMMON SENSE?

And finally….I believe our government, our elected officials and especially the CIA have consistently distorted the truth by comission or omission or out right lying……so if Elizabeth and all the closed minded people in this country believe they have been told the truth they are beyond being merely foolish.

Roger and Shannon….I sure will miss reading your thoughts and opinions….along with many others…..Thanks to all and you all take care…..Monica

  76. MiamiVision Says:

Monica: The CIA is merely another gang and this has been known for decades by some of us oldsters.

MsRincon: No need to go to The View website to watch the View (why give them the ratings?) Here is a link to Lester’s blog where he has not only the View but Ellen and Oprah as well in multiple clips. The only thing Lester asks for is that you turn off your pop-up blocker once there because that’s the only way he makes a little bit of money and if we don’t turn off the pop-up blocker, eventually Lester will shut this down. We don’t want that. *S* Click on my name for his link to see whatever you want, you can pick and choose which clips you want to see.

Thanks Winnie, once again, for this great place that hooked up lots of nice people! Saw you over at the new place today, nice that you visited!! Come back often too. *S*

  77. ds Says:

Hi Winnie! I don’t know if you are still checking in to read comments but I just got back. My favourite thing to do after I get back from a week away is check my favourite blog and o…m…g…say WHAT??? I can confirm that this is a surprise but not completely unexpected. Lately, the recaps were “coming up later”. It is a testament to your integrity that you chose to sign off rather than do a half-effort, since you had that option, when your heart was not in it. That is something to be respected. I love your writing style: quick, smart, witty and fun, always entertaining, and if you ever choose to publish, I will be first in line to buy it. Thank you kindly for offering an outlet to vent. All the best.

    Debra from Canada

Debra (ds) - we’re over at gonnavent’s site.

    Winnie,

You did more than enough!! Thank you for these amazing 2 and half years. I am a mega Rosie fan too and totally understand. I write to her alot on her blog and she answers me when she can and I always get a REAL response…she is the real thing and the reason I get through my own troubles becauase I know she’s been through it and back. Good luck to you!!! Maybe you should blog about Bonnie Hunt…she is as Ro would say FANTASTIC and her show reminds me of the run of the TROS. Fun, light-hearted, down to earth and most of all REAL! Peace and love to you!

  80. Heather in LA Says:

    hey winnie -

totally agree! I realized I was wasting an hour on the site and then - hours - posting my frustrations here. for what? It was interesting during the election because something real was at stake, but if we all think the shows sucks THAT much, why do we bother watching it?

thanks for providing this (much needed) outlet.

  81. Heather in LA Says:

I meant an hour on the *show* then hours on this site…

  82. Dee Says:

    Winnie,

I just got back from holiday and noticed your note, I don’t know how you lasted as long as you did…but you were a first class warrior for the cause!

Bless you for seeing the good in Rosie and for giving us a place to analyze the good and the bad on the crap show.

Have a wonderful life and maybe we will see you on another forum some day!

    Hugs

    Dee

  83. Carmen Says:

The biggest time waster isn’t watching The View, or reading the recaps about The View. It’s the endless tit for tatting by the “commenters” here , who go round and round making the same points over and over again.

  84. LouiseInAlabama Says:

I couldn’t agree with you more. I stopped watching a very long time ago. Good Luck to you Winnie.
