Partial Video of Elisabeth Hasselbeck at Cindy McCain Luncheon

by Winnie McCarthy

Here is a partial video of the Cindy McCain tribute luncheon at which Elisabeth Hasselbeck served as the MC today. (Courtesy of C-SPAN) I am not sure how long the luncheon lasted before the part that is at the start of the clip and am I not sure if we missed anything in that earlier part. For those of you who don’t want to watch the video, here is a brief summary.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck appears at the beginning of the clip and introduces country singer Clay Walker. He jokes that he has never been on The View and hopes maybe if the audience likes him that he will be invited to her show. He then sings “I’m proud to be an American.”

Elisabeth then returns to the podium and says that it felt good to sing that song. She then tells Clay that he is going to be booked on The View. Then she introduces actor Jon Voight who speaks. (I don’t know what he said, I fast-forwarded through it).

A video tribute clip to Cindy McCain then plays. Following that, Elisabeth introduces Todd Palin, husband of VP-candidate Sarah Palin, which I wrote about earlier today. Elisabeth says that Sarah Palin “knocked the cover off the ball last night” and she “knocked the wind out of the liberal smear machine” and she showed “grit and passion.”

Todd Palin then spoke. (I fast-forwarded again, but his remarks are summarized here). Todd Palin then introduced Cindy McCain who spoke for several minutes. When she left the stage at the end of the speech, she got a big hug from Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

[...] More information on his remarks here. I will post pictures of Elisabeth at the event if any become available. (Be sure to let me know if you see photos or video of her at the event anywhere!) EDITED TO ADD: I found video of the event on the C-SPAN website. I have posted it here: Video of Elisabeth Hasselbeck MC’s Cindy McCain Luncheon. [...]

  2. carolyn Says:

I did hear that she complained about Michelle Obama and told the attendees that she brought a list of subjects that were off limits, but “Cindy” let them ask her anything. Is she supposed to be telling this kind of behind the scene details from the show, is she actually running the View now??? She’s booking this mediocre singer next week she said. Now I know why I don’t watch anymore, she is shrill and untalented.

  3. susieq Says:

carolyn, i heard the same thing…i can see why the view isn’t getting a-list celebrities anymore…they’re afraid eh will tell unflattering stories about them

  4. edie Says:

It seems to me that she’s assuring that Michele Obama never comes back to the show, but that Sarah Palin and Cindy McCain and other Republicans can. How many actors and actresses will have to walk past her for the View folks to get the message? She’s like the Manchurian hostess, parroting everything on Fox, with no real depth or opinion of her own.
I hope they address this tomorrow. Worst of all, I think she lies. When will they give her her own show on FOx? I think she wants to be booted off the View and then boo hoo for the rest of her life about how the liberals just couldn’t handle the truth. Frankly she’s a disgrace and a hypocrite.

  5. Sunny Says:

OMG. words cannot describe how terrible, unprofessional and embarassing this is. i really dislike EH and i can’t bear to watch this it is just so, so….

  6. Sunny Says:

how much do you want to bet that EH wears multi-strand pearls like CM next week?

  7. Dee Says:

Here is the website regarding her tale on the behind the scenes View details:

It is well known that Bits cannot be gracious when someone from the opposite team is on the panel…cue Rory Kennedy. I would imagine the Dems put the deal in place knowing this immature brat would try and pull a Fox stunt.

  8. rainlillie Says:

I agree It’s very unprofessional and catty too.
Is anyone really surprised? I know I’m not.

  9. Sunny Says:

Fox News has just advertised that EH is going to appear on Hannity & Colmes tonight (Friday night) to provide “insight” on the selection of Sarah Palin. My guess is the only reason she got the invite is because Hannity wants to seize on EH’s comments about Michelle Obama’s “demands”. BUT how much do you wanna bet that Barbra Walters is pissed off and tells EH she cannot repeat or talk about what she said. BW will be very focused on getting future Obama interviews and will not tolerate this twit’s unprofessionalism. Watch for it. Hannity will ask her to elaborate but she will decline. Her appearance will be a big bust like it was last time. I’ll try to watch but not sure if I can handle the smug, bug-eyed EH and her voice.

  10. berndoubt Says:

I’d love to know what Elisabeth is referring to at the beginning of the clip when she says, “I always wanted one of those, but I just wasn’t fast enough.”

I think there should be a finish the joke contest for that one.

  11. Kelly Says:

berndoubt…that would be the day God passed out a limited supply of moral compasses.

    God help us today -

  14. DL Says:

Wow! That was painful to watch. She was worse than horrible. She kept pausing and just standing there.

  15. FRANCINE Says:

I never understood why she was on the view. She has no point of view is not interesting at all. I was watch the view because of the other interesting hosts, but now I think I had enough of the view and EH.

  16. mumbles Says:

Here’s what’s funny - all the movies that she lists in her introduction to Jon Voigt - “Varsity Blues”, “National Treasure” - are goddamn awful. But of course, mentioning “Coming Home” or “Midnight Cowboy” may not play well with this crowd.

  17. Amy Says:

Eilsabeth feels she is speaking for all America. What a twit. The only thing Sarah proved is that she has a knack for insults. EH is an utter moron and no different that that hateful Ann Coulter chick. I saw on showbiz tonight that she made a remark regarding Michelle Obama’s visit to The View. Mrs. Obama was nice to everyone and to see how this uppidity stupid bitch turn on her only shows her profound stupidity and immaturity. Can’t stand her!

  18. MiamiVision Says:

Amy: I cannot stand the insulting Ms. Coulter too, but EH is far different - because EH doesn’t have the education that Coulter has nor the IQ nor level of intelligence. Remember Ann Coulter doesn’t tear up cards, act all immature, start crying, and then burying her head in Barbara’s lap. There is a world of difference between Ann and EH.

EH has many problems and I think needs help for her emotional instability and her 6 faces. Multiple personality disorder comes to mind.

  19. Rachael Says:

@MiamiVision, you may very well have a point there. LOL! I have seen her actually tear up her cards when she feels she hasn’t gotten her point across and just act like a brat in general. She is over 30 years old and acts likes this spoiled kid who has tantrums. This poor girl actually feels she knows what she is speaking of just because she speaks with Shamity on the regular. You know, the chunky guy from Faux news. I am just sick of them saying that all Obama did was write two memoirs. Clearly, they are clueless and thinks that the rest of America is too.

  20. Kelly Says:

    mumbles…lol

You forgot DELIVERANCE…with Burt Reynolds and Ned Beatty.

Dueling Banjos and Squealing Like a Pig!!

That crowd’s nothing but hypocrites - they probably watch Deliverance on loop.

  21. Kelly Says:

It seems Obama only wrote ONE memoir; McCain wrote TWO!!! LOL

  22. Nellie Says:

I wish one of the other hosts would point blank ask her about her comments about Obama not having written any bills.

Just ask here where she verified the information. Make her admit she did not verify it she just took the republican party at their word.

That and to call her on the dismissing of community organizers.

    She owes people an apology.

The integrity of the show is at stake and I cannot imagine women of such high standards are BW, JB and WG would let her behavior pass.

Imagine the weight of having the darling of the republican party apologizing for passing along lies.

    That would be beautiful

I think we should all demand an apology on the show for such despicable behavior. I am writing them now and I am calling in the morning.

  23. Missy Says:

^^^Good for you. I hope your call is broadcast. They really should send this tool to Faux News where she belongs. Shamity would love to have her as a permanent guest. Ann Coulter has a twin. I just saw a clip of Rash Limbaugh wish for a riot to happen at the DNC, but instead it happened at the RNC. LOL!!!

  24. Sophie Says:

Can someone post the phone number to the view, because i want to call in.
I wrote a letter. How can they have Elisbeth on? When she speaks of Barack and Michelle you can see the hate…Is is racist I wonder? She is using her hate to continue dividing this nation as if it were the superbowl and her party can not loose. When listening to Baracks speach I felt united with Americans no blue no red. Sean, Bill, Rupert Murdoch who is not from our country but owns the media, Elisabeth, Fox news they have divided this country. We all need to get writing, this is what Karl Rove did for Bush. They would have their people call tv stationns and protest..write and protest. Lets beat them at their own game for Americans. I don’t get it Lisa Ling to Elisabeth..Barbara what is going on? When are they going to address this issue.

  25. Patti Says:

    Nellie,

This taken off the web site -

    http://www.washingtonwatch.com/blog/2008/09/07/senator-obamas-priorities/

“Obama is the most prolific legislator as far as bills introduced, but the least successful at getting them passed. None of his 59 bills have become law.”

I think it’s great to write a bunch of Bills - anyone can do that. It’s the fight to get them PASSED - that matters AND his own party is in charge of Congress.

  26. Althea Says:

I’m disturbed by Mrs. Hasselbeck’s comments however, I’m more disturbed by the fact that Barbara Walters is more concerned about Sherry Shepherd possibly being a loose canon than Elizabeth sharing what should have been priviledged information. Mrs. Hasselbeck is entitled to her opinion and that is the premise of the show however she shouldn’t take that information outside of the appropriate arena. Mrs. Walter’s should be more concerned about viewers like me who love the show however I’m no longer interested in viewing this show because I feel that Elizabeths comments are overlooked and not even addressed but Sherry is a loose canon. Let’s reevaluate and hope that I begin to watch the view again in the future.

  27. resa Says:

I am very disappointed at the comment made by Ms. Elisabeth Hasselbeck at the recent Republican Luncheon regarding Michelle Obamas request to have certain topics kept off limits. Once again Ms. Hasselbeck has opened up her big mouth making remarks that should be kept confidential. I think it is time for her to join Star Jones and Rosie Odonell and depart The View. The show will be much better without her.

  28. rita Says:

EH, your 15 minutes is up babe. If you want to be remembered for being smug, rude, unprofessional, bratty, and ignorant…you did it! Congrats!!

  29. Nellie Says:

    Pattie:

The site you link is written by a Libertarian with an agends.

Here is a link to a non-partisan website where you can get actual facts:

    http://www.factcheck.org

    A quote from them on Obama;

    Tough Grader

Palin disparaged Obama’s legislative record, both in Illinois and in Washington:

Palin: But listening to him speak, it’s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or even a reform, not even in the state Senate.

Of course, we can’t say what Palin considers “major.” But if Palin’s own ethics reforms in Alaska were important enough to highlight in her convention address, then it’s only fair to credit Obama’s efforts on that topic. In 1998 in the Illinois Senate, Obama cosponsored an ethics overhaul that bars elected officials from using their campaign funds for personal use and and was called the the first major overhaul of Illinois campaign and ethics laws in 25 years. It also bans fundraisers in the state Capitol during legislative sessions. Obama’s Republican cosponsor Kirk Dillard even appeared in an Obama ad last summer describing Obama’s skills working with members of both parties to get legislation passed.

In Washington, Obama was instrumental in helping to craft the 2007 ethics reform law that ended gifts and meals from lobbyists, cut off subsidized jet travel for members of Congress, required lobbyists to disclose contributions they “bundle” to candidates, and put the brakes on other, similar common practices.

In addition, we already noted in a recent article Obama’s efforts with Republican senators to help detect and secure weapons of mass destruction and to destroy conventional weapons stockpiles around the world, and to create a publicly searchable database on federal spending.

  30. Sandee Romero Says:

I have not watched The View for quite a while now amd it is solely because I cannot stand to listen to the repeated racial and condescending remarks by Elisabeth. She has no respect for anyone unless they are a white republican like herself. I really wish you would get rid of her once and for all. I really miss watching the show. Her behavior this time is unforgivable. Has she no shame? What is wrong with her attacking Michelle Obama like that? Why does the show allow her to be so mean and hateful. I can only hope something is done to deter her terrible behavior. It has already gone way too far. Does Barbara have any say about this behavior or does she quietly agree with her? Honestly, sometimes I wonder…
