Project Blog Competition and Ecoist

by Winnie McCarthy

Announcement time, everyone! I am participating in an exciting contest called “Project Blog” put on by Reality on Bravo to coincide with this season of Project Runway.

Each week I will have to do a special post dictated by the contest organizers which is based on the theme of that week’s episode of Project Runway. The best post each week will win prizes and the worst will be eliminated from the competition.

From the organizers of the contest:

Project Blog is an on-going competition at Reality on Bravo where top-notch bloggers from around the world are competing to be named the ultimate “top blogger.” We’ve got some great prizes lined up, and there’s good news - you can win too! Every Monday, I’ll announce the weekly sponsor and the prize. Make sure that you play every week - you can win some amazing things, thanks to our awesome sponsors!

The winners will be determined by a panel of judges, as well as from votes by readers! That’s where you come in! I need you all to vote for me to help keep me in the competition. This is the first week of the competition and I will have my post up at the end of this week. I will give you all the details then on where to go to vote!

Every week there is a great new sponsor and I will be posting a little bit about each one as the weeks go by. This week’s sponsor is Ecoist.com. Here is a little bit about the company:

Ecoist’s eco-friendly bracelets are created with recycled papers like candy wrappers and soda labels, and for every “Stop Global Warming” bracelet sold, the company will plant a tree!

According to Jonathan Marcoschamer from Ecoist, “Our objective is to merge design with social and environmental consciousness to provide stylish, functional, and durable products that people will love to own. All our products are made from recycled, organic, or earth-friendly materials, and are manufactured through our network of fair trade partnerships around the world.”

They don’t just make bracelets either - at Ecoist’s website, you can find all sorts of handmade items made from recycled products. Check out the movie billboard handbags, the recycled records bowls, the reusable shopping bags, and all of the other great products available for purchase at their site. The best part? Everything is moderately priced, so you don’t have to break your budget to grab some great gear at their site!

What’s even better, is that you, as a reader, can win prizes each week too! Here is a description on how you can enter, according to Reality on Bravo:

Want a chance to win this week’s prize? You can enter up to three times! For one chance, leave a comment on this post on Reality on Bravo with your favorite product from Ecoist’s website (make sure to use a valid email address to win). For a second chance, blog about this contest on your own site and email the link to me at allison.boyer-at-yahoo-dot-com. Want a third chance? Check back here on Friday, vote for your favorite in our Project Blog competition, and leave a comment showing support! The winner will be drawn at random from all qualifying entries.

I think that this should be a fun competition! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions and check back later this week for my first contest entry and information on how to vote!

Good luck Winnie! You have my vote. I’ll try to link to it on my blog. I owe you a great deal of thanks, if it weren’t for you I would have to actually sit through the View every day. Your recaps are awesome!

  2. Stacee Says:

You have my vote too Winnie :)
I agree with rainlillie, your recaps are GREAT and you provide me with an outlet to express my thoughts about the show as well as life in general. Thank you thank you thank you!

    Good luck!

Good for you, Wiinnie! Of course you have my vote. (Are we only allowed one vote per person? I’ll be eager to see how it works.) Please make sure you have the rules and your postings front and center, okay? Sometimes I think I don’t see everythng that gets posted here, and I don’t want to miss this.

I appreciate your postings for their thoroughness, readabilty, and unique combination of neutrality and sly asides—that’s a hard combo to pull off. As Stacee said, I am also very appreciative of your letting us have this forum to say what we feel we need to say about this show, and other things. Thanks for not creating one of those fan-site atmospheres, where you feel you shouldn’t say anything except how pretty the set looks or how much you liked so-and-so’s hairdo.

    Good luck!

What a happy coincidence to learn about this ecoist site! Just last night I was discussing with someone how folk art museums’ gift shops are museums in and of themselves because of all of the innovative (and eco-friendly) items they sell that are made out of everyday materials—like rugs crocheted out of Wonder Bread plastic wrappers; or chewing-gum and candy-bar wrappers woven into bracelets. The problem is that the prices are outrageous! I’m very eager to know there is an affordable alternative.

  5. Sandy Says:

As the others above, you certainly have my vote. The best of luck!!!!!!!!
As well I so appreciate your site.

  6. Winnie McCarthy Says:

    Thanks everyone!

    You can now start voting!!!
