Rosie O’Donnell Answers Fox News Claim
On The View today, Rosie O’Donnell asked Elisabeth Hasselbeck if she saw what her favorite channel, the Fox News Network said about her this weekend. Rosie said that they are saying “Rosie O’Donnell thinks our troops are terrorists.” Elisabeth said maybe it is because Rosie made the comment about state-sponsored terrorism.
Rosie said, to clarify:
I do not think our American troops are terrorists.
I want our American troops home, able-bodied.
I don’t want them to invade countries who have done nothing to the–us.
I don’t want to die at the hands of a Republican administration that doesn’t care enough about them to give them health care when they return.
I love our troops and will work for our troops, and no matter what you say on your shitty cable news shows, I–that’s the truth.
Rosie also added that people like Jimmy Carter and Ron Paul have the right idea when they say that we have to examine our middle east policy and see what it is that people hate our country so much.
UPDATE: Here is the video of the original discussion. Here is video of today’s show.

[...] For Rosie’s response today to Fox News claim that she think the troops are terrorists, check out my post from earlier today. The discussion got pretty contentious, which made the transition into the guest segment rather awkward when a discussion of the previous night’s Desperate Housewives finale suddenly felt unimportant. It has become painfully obvious that Elizabeth is purposely setting Rosie up to score brownie points (and perhaps a job) with Fox News Channel. She knew good and well that Rosie didn’t call our troops terrorists like FNC claimed, but she refused to defend Rosie just to stay in their good graces. She’s an opportunistic and I hope Rosie takes off the kid gloves and really lets her have it before she leaves!

Rosie said something on her blog about Elisabeth getting briefed before the show (by the ep) with talking points, which I think is interesting.

I keep sensing Rosie is further distancing herself from The View (i.e. not going to the Emmy Awards supposedly because of school events) due to some displeasure with the running of the show. I think she still thinks Elisabeth is cute and all, and won’t be too harsh on her esp. with her pregnancy, but Rosie will fight back against Fox. I think she should sue them because they are so outrageous.

I do watch the View some days. I heard what Rosie said about Terrorist, and the perticular day in question. “656,000 dead, who is the terrorist”? One could certainly get the impression she was referring to our troops. Watching the view often, I felt she was referring to our Presidenbt. She should watch how she says things, if she doesn’t like being quoted on Fox, or anywhere else.

I don’t watch the show but catch the clips of all the dumb stuff Rosie says. I heard what she said about terrorists and I got the impression that she was talking about US troops being terrorits. And I got that implication because THAT is what she was doing-she was calling US troops terrorists. If that wasn’t who was she saying killed 656,000 people?
May 21st, 2007 at 3:00 pm
I think she was saying that from the perspective of the Iraqis, the Americans are terrorists, because we invaded their country and now 600,000 people are dead.
May 21st, 2007 at 3:06 pm
So Winnie in other words by inference and implication she said that American troops are terrorists, thank for clearing that up for us.
May 21st, 2007 at 3:15 pm
First off 30-60 thousand are dead.
Second, she did call our troops terrorists. She just realized that an idiotic thing to say, and now she is going to pretend she didnt say it.
Third, someone said Liz was receiving talking points. Thats absurd. Rosie practacally reads her TP’s right off far-left websites.
Fourth, my friends are soldiers in Iraq right now. They think she is the most offensive person on tv right now. The fact she is still on really says which network is sh***y.

Fox makes up news, and fabricates a caricature of Rosie for their audience… Not unlike what DT did with his diatribes. Well, it didn’t work for him. Those guys at Fox best watch it…
Rosie is correct that the word “terrorists” have become a jingoism to instill fear in people and the word “troops” is being used as some badge of patriotism bantered about by people. Elisabeth is a great example of someone who lives blissfully in ignorance and fear which somehow justifies in her mind an endless war.

Rosie should apply more perspective to her views and words. Fox News is not attacking her no more than she claims she is not calling American troops terrorists: Some Talk Personalities - with admitted conservative views - are expressing their opinions about her and her words.
While vitriolic attacks have been a part of American politics before its foundations, that doesn’t mean it should continue, Rosie.

Keith, you ROCK!

Keith does rock!
The show is called the View where she gets to express her view yet she never lets Elizabeth finish whatever she starts saying nor does she listen to a “view” that isn’t a reflection of her own. And now that people on the biggest cable news network, people that have their own shows where they can express THEIR “view” are saying stuff about her she doesn like (because it’s true, no doubt), and she gets upset. Gee, I wonder if there are any troops that are a bit annoyed that she’s calling them terrorists!

Thanks for the comments.
Great point, SA: The View is about (or should be) diverse views (women only allowed, apparently); but if those ‘views’ don’t jibe with Rosie’s, apparently they are not allowed. Lizzie tries, bless her suviror heart, but her voice doesn’t have the range of Rosie’s.
I’d like to see Ann Coulter sit in on the show and deal with Rosie. Hell, I’d pay to see that!!!

To kc:
You said “I think she should sue them because they are so outrageous.” Okay, I give… under what grounds would that be claims for a lawsuit?
You also said: “Fox makes up news, and fabricates a caricature of Rosie for their audience…” Can you please give me an exact example of ‘made-up news’ Fox has broadcast?
Until you can provide either answer, you are truly irrelevant.

There ya go MSunderestimated…even tho Fox didn’t make this up…they claimed it as real news ( It was an article first reported in the Onion)…how anyone with half a brain who could support this network is beyond me…

Fox is a joke its the news equivalent of pro wrestling!
May 23rd, 2007 at 6:39 pm
And yet FOX gets better ratings than CNN or MSNBC. Maybe if they had WWE on instead of Olbermann or Harball, ratings would improve

Well done, Elizabeth. How refreshing to actually hear some truth on your program. I quit watching long ago having decided the show was inappropriately named “The View” when it clearly should be called “The Left Wing View.” I applaud you for your integrity and support of this great nation. I may watch the show more often now that I’m not being terrorized by Rosie on a daily basis! Now if we can just come up with a plan to stick a sock in Joy’s mouth the program might be worthy of being called a talk show rather than the “Let’s Listen to Joy Talk” show.
