Rosie O’Donnell posts full picture of costume
This photo was uploaded by Rosie O’Donnell today and labeled “U.S. Army Costume.” I don’t think this is Vivi in the picture, so maybe one of her brothers has a similar costume? UPDATE: A clever reader, “pnbzmom” deduced that the initials CBOD on the uniform probably refer to Chelsea Belle O’Donnell, Rosie’s older daughter.
If you go back and look at the picture of Vivi, there are empty velcro patches where the stars and Army patches are on this costume.
I wonder if Rosie posted this photo to counteract all the of the media who have claimed that Vivi was dressed like a terrorist in that other photo. I did find it odd that many people thought she was dressed as a terrorist, rather than a soldier. Perhaps she is trying to make a point about how people are quick to judgment in branding people terrorists? Or does this go back to her previous point about how American soldiers are seen as terrorists by many people in Iraq?
What is interesting to me is how most of the media outlets have failed to pick up on Rosie’s point, which is that her daughter in a costume should not be news and Paris Hilton should not be news, when there is a war going on and thousands of our soldiers have been killed and severely injured.

The initials CHOD could stand for Chelsea O’Donnell, so maybe that is Chelsea in the picture. The U.S. flag patch looks like it could come off easily while the kid is playing, so that could be the reason why it doesn’t appear on Vivi’s uniform. And if you aren’t going to put a U.S. flag patch on, then you wouldn’t put on the stars patches on, either, because they wouldn’t make sense alone. I’m thinking that Vivi’s patch-less uniform makes her look more like a generic soldier, and makes the whole thing less of a political statement and thus reinforces Rosie’s explanation that this picture reflects a child playing make-believe solider just like last year she was a make-believe princess. And of course a generic soldier could indeed have some type of political message: that every country has soldiers. (By the way: Did Blake’s camo uniform have any distinguishing patches on it?)
I haven’t watched the coverage of it on the news, but have read online news accounts and have been astonished at how most of them seem to say that Rosie’s blog fans have “turned” on her. I guess that reinforces the notion that some people have that there should never be dissent, or that all dissent means you have “turned on” someone: your government, Rosie, whatever.
I have been very deeply disturbed by the comments I’ve read on Rosie’s blog, and in the comments section of news articles, by people who think child protective services should take her children away. Surely they know that the bullet belt can be purchased on that costume site Rosie has often mentioned, so clearly it is a toy. So are they saying that by law you are not allowed to post a picture on your website that could be construed as using your child to make a political point? One person (a TV talking head, a while back) even said that Rosie should not be allowed to drink alochol on a “public website.” This was in reference to her sitting with one of her JaHeRo friends in Rosie’s home and blogging while sipping from a beer. The hatred for this woman boggles the mind. If any of these people had looked at her blog on a regular basis and had seen the various adorable pictures & videos of her kids, buying shoes online, looking at the bird’s nest, blowing bubbles in the yard, they would not be so hysterical now.

I haven’t watched any news stories about the picture of Vivi, nor have I read any articles about it. I haven’t read Rosie’s blog in a while. I saw the picture here yesterday, and my reaction was NOT negative.
I felt that Vivi was most likely playing with her brothers, and Rosie snapped the picture. I thought it was a picture that said a lot. I felt that Rosie most likely had a purpose in posting it, because it Did seem to say many things and remind us that war is real, and this could be your daughter, or her’s,(or son) going off to fight in a war. To me it also seemed to say that even though Rosie is anti-war, she doesn’t let that interfer with the way she raises her children, an ex; they are free to explore their immaginations in play.to me this is a reflection of a good parent. (it also seems to express obviously she does NOT condemn our soldiers & troops)
It never once entered my mind that Vivi was dressed as a terrorist. As for the new picture, perhaps it is to show that this was a US soldier costume, perhaps it is to say that American soldiers can be seen as terrorist as well.
Whatever her point she sure has people talking. That is a GOOD thing

I find that there is an extraordinary lesson to be learned by reading Rosie’s blog and then seeing the news regardless of what you may feel about her. The distortion of reality is amazing.
The comments about CPS are just sad. There is a lot of hatred towards her from a section of our society. I am sometimes appalled at how easy it is for some to be downright mean. There was another poster in the past week that told her essentially that because the child is not biologically hers than there is no connection. I don’t remember the exact words but it was similar. How hurtful that was to every person who was adopted or has adopted.
I also find that those on particualar websites making the most negative comments know only what is told to them by particular news outlets, entertainment slants and various conservative hosts. For some, I think their view of her would change if they even read her site for a week and then compared it to what they were told. I think they would feel differently.

Alice, I know what you mean. Some of the comments I read on her blog as well as other sites were incredibly hate filled. Attacking her sexuality, her marriage, her weight… Some even accused Rosie of abusing Kelly!
