Rosie O’Donnell Talks About Lack of View Camaraderie
According to LA Times blog, while publicizing her upcoming (Wednesday, November 26th) variety special, Rosie O’Donnell was asked about her time on The View. Rosie stated that Barbara Walters, “wanted everyone to believe and think and act as if [the hosts] get along and are really good friends and happy and hang out together, and, you know, that’s just not the reality. I’m not saying they loathe each other, but the fact of the matter is, there was not a lot of camaraderie off camera.”
Rosie also stated that arguing about politics is not the best use of her talent and her variety show will be “an hour of fun, laughter, singing and dancing. No politics. No arguing. No talking about controversial things. That, to me, is what is needed now.” Scheduled guests on the show include Liza Minnelli, Alec Baldwin, Ne-Yo, Alanis Morissette, Gloria Estefan, Kathy Griffin (Yay!) and Jane Krakowski.

I posted this on a previous thread… but it belonged here.
I have a tough time believing the info in this article. I was reading Rosie’s blog during that whole time. She said on her blog many times that EH and her used to send each other emails. Rosie didnt leave because they disagreed about politics, she felt betrayed by her friend when EH didnt defend her.
Also, it says that Rosie said that BW fired her…. On Rosie’s blog, she said they couldnt come to terms on the new contract so they didnt renew it well before the on air blow up.

The guest list looks fairly decent. Will Rosie be able to attract better guests than the View?
I kind of believe Rosie here. As far as whether or not Rosie was fired by BW, that one’s harder to call. I mean, the official story about Star was that she was leaving on good terms. Official, that is, until Star came out and blew the lid off of that one.

This show sounds like it should be really fun, can’t wait.

Roger, I think sometimes Rosie manufactures that there is more to a relationship than there really is so maybe that is why she felt the betrayal so much. I don’t know. But she had all that time to talk about it and to bring it up now just before her show seems kind of off to me.

I agree ShannonP
I see what is being said now as, for lack of a better term, a publicity stunt. The more made up “controversies” there are the more “buzz” about the new show.
Comedy and publicity do not have to be factual. Ill still believe what I read at the time it was happening, and Ill also watch the show.

Roger - In a comedy skit Ro joked she was fired. The press ran with it.
I believe Ro also said on her blog that she and EH hung out after work hours twice, never talked on the phone, and emailed here and there.
Ro is a mush. She tried to force a friendship. That was a bad move on her part.

Roger, I don’t think on her blog though that she ever acted like they were chummy or hung out a lot. Remember the Jehero or whatever videos? It didn’t seem like Rosie was that close to other co-hosts in those videos.
She seems to want to talk about it now that it’s more safe and in her court to do so. If she had talked about all the drama at the time she just would have fed into the frenzy over it back then. Now she can use it to draw attention to her new show. It’s just the way it works.

I dont think they hung out a lot either…..
but I do think that Rosie and EH emailed each other on a regular basis. That causes a friendship.

Those “Jehero” videos were a hoot and a half!!
I remember when they said they were gonna tour the country and have beers with different people. I even offered an invitation to come to Defiance. I bet she got a good laugh out of that…. I know I did hahahaha

I email people on a somewhat regular basis that I don’t consider a friend. I remember in my last job my boss really wanted to be my friend and I’d answer her emails to be polite, but I strongly disliked her as a person and in no way did I ever consider her a friend or do stuff with her outside of work.
When you hear the hosts talk on the show sometimes, there are things they don’t know about each other that you would think they would if they were friends.
I think there is truth to what Rosie says, I just think her timing is definitely self-serving and for her show, but that’s how it works. I actually think it’s a little sad or pathetic that she’d have to use the View to promote her show. It seems like she’d want a completely fresh start and to use that drama of the View to promote her show just seems unhealthy and like the wrong way to start it off.

I think you are putting too much blame on Rosie. There are a lot of other things directing this. First there is the press…. they expect a controversy, if they dont get it they invent one. Like Lopez said… “In a comedy skit Ro joked she was fired. The press ran with it.” Then you have the people from NBC that are promoting it.
I dont think Rosie is directing this drama. But watching the show today…. some nerve was hit with Barbara.

Rosie had the option of discussing it or not discussing it. She could have not answered the question and said she was on to new things now and that The View is old news. She is responsible for whatever comes out of her mouth. She’s not responsible for how the press spins it though.
She is using The View in her promos, that is what I think is very lame and BW is right when she says that she needs to move on. If Rosie had just talked about it, that’s one thing…but to use it in her promos for a new show? That just seems unhealthy and juvenile to me.

Rosie’s right. I plan to watch, and know that I will enjoy her show.

While I agree that Rosie should probably not be discussing The View, I do feel that is how Rosie is. She has always been one to speak her mind. She is no longer on the show and owes about as much loyalty to Barb as Barb did to her during the Donald Trump fallout.
Rosie is speaking from her experience and telling something many of us already suspect. Barb is just mad that the facade she is trying to construct is being called what it is - BS.
That said, Rosie should probably not continue speaking out about the View and particularly using the View to promote her new show. What is funny though is Barb put an even brighter spotlight on the issue in speaking about it on The View.
By the way, it’s funny what Barb chooses to address on the show. I sort of wish she had repudiated Bits’ backstab remarks about Michelle Obama at the RNC luncheon. I guess that would have gone against Barb’s “happy happy we love love each other” fairy tale though.

Thats it? That comment about them not being all lovey dovey off stage (which is pretty obvious!) is what prompted BW to make that statement today?? I HATE how it says “Rosie lashes out at BW-again”, how is that LASHING OUT?? She’s just stating the obvious, geez. The misleading title is just another example of the “liberal” media making Rosie out to be the big bad bully.
