THanks Winnie.
Hmmm, she looked a little stiff. Sorta rambled. Not as impressive (presence-wise) as she normally is in front of a camera.
Think maybe she was really nervous? Maybe that’s what it was…after all, this is her ‘baby’.
I can’t wait to read the book.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:24 pm
I definitely think she was nervous. She seemed very anxious, like she just wanted it to be over.
September 28th, 2007 at 3:03 pm
Rosie looks great! All of the proceeds from her book is going to go charity. I can’t wait for her to find another home on TV. She said in the summer she had a meeting with HBO, that would be the best place for her IMO.

Stacee,
———————————————
???
‘at some of the hotter guests’? What does that mean? Do they lower the temperature in the studio or something?
———————————————
You know what I meant by “hotter”. Haha, you are a funny one! ;}

Nervous? Maybe off her meds again. We all should pray she gets the help she so desperately needs.
September 29th, 2007 at 4:26 pm
Stephen,
We will also pray for you as well.

I don’t get nervous, just a bit shy about touting her own stuff. A snake-oil salesman, she’s not.
September 30th, 2007 at 10:22 pm
Rosie looks fabulous! I’m so excited for her and for the release of this book. All the profits go to charity and it’s a very good cause! I bought Find Me on Ebay so will read that one first. Good luck to Rosie. So nice to see her, she is so missed on The View.

“I don’t get nervous, just a bit shy about touting her own stuff.”
For someone shy about touting her own stuff, she sure pushed the first, unrelated book pretty hard! I will read the new book, as I did the first one, but more out of curiosity than anything.
And it seems a little braggadocious to say “read it, it’s a really good book”–isn’t that for ME and other readers to decide?? And “STAR” of the Flinstones????? Sorry, Betty Rubble is NOT the STAR!!
I don’t dislike Rosie, but I don’t really understand the absolute adoration she receives from so many people. She is already mentally unhealthy (Read “Find Me” if you don’t believe me…), and then to be treated like she is a “god” cannot be good for her. It only adds to her self illusions of grandeur.
October 1st, 2007 at 11:32 am
Sophie,
So you’re a psychologist and you’ve spent time with Rosie? Or maybe you’re a Psychic and you got inside her mind. Why in the world would you waste you money buying a book about someone that you despise? That would be like me buying a book about EH or GWB.
October 1st, 2007 at 12:52 pm
After reading Sophie’s post, I had to rewatch this clip because that’s not how I recall Rosie talking about her book at all. Her voice is very very low-key, she seems quite reluctant to have to plug the book. Especially when you compare it to the bragging of Donald Trump whenever he is hawking something. As for treating her like a “god” … I don’t think of her or any celeb that way at all. If people sticking up for her & admiring the good things she has done & her courage in speaking out ever starts to go to her head, don’t worry: All she has to do is turn on Fox and even the mainstream media and the torrent of hate will bring her back down to earth. It was the barrage of over-the-top invective toward her that kind of made me a fan of hers. I went to her site herself, read “Find Me” and really liked it, and realized she was nothing like what the media has portrayed her to me…. Just my “view.”
October 1st, 2007 at 1:32 pm
I think it’s pretty expected that someone would promote their book, or cd, or what have you. I didn’t watch the video (as i have slow dial-up) so can’t comment on it.
I hope her book does well.
October 1st, 2007 at 2:19 pm
“And it seems a little braggadocious to say “read it, it’s a really good book”–
Someone promoting something is not going to say “Don’t buy my book it’s crap.” I guess you never watch talk shows because it’s mostly celebs, authors etc.,promoting their stuff.
“I don’t dislike Rosie, but I don’t really understand the absolute adoration she receives from so many people.”
Ummm would this be most of the media that always is attacking her and commenting negatively about her or do you mean her fans who just happen to RESPECT her? Absolute adoration - not even close.
“mentally unhealthy”
“treated like she is a “god””
“self illusions of grandeur.”
What exactly makes her mentally unhealthy? How is she treated like a “god”? Self illusions of grandeur - I can’t even begin to try to understand that one. In all honesty I’m really confused about those comments. You say you don’t dislike her but your comments say otherwise so I’m wondering why you are so interested in everything she seems to do?
October 1st, 2007 at 2:31 pm
Just so we’re clear Sophie I’m being genuinely inquisitive. It’s hard to convey a soft tone when typing/posting so I just want to make sure you know my intention was not to attack your comments.I was just wanting clarification.

That is a very good observation, kc. One which I had not considered. Great point.
Susie, I agree. She looks wonderful.
And Bravo to Viva.
October 1st, 2007 at 3:41 pm
Wow, I really touched a nerve here. Truly, not my intention at all. And Viva, I appreciate your clarifying that this wasn’t an attack….’tone of voice’ is a shortcoming of blogs and emails and written words.
As I said, I DON’T despise Rosie. But I don’t adore the ground she walks on, either. I enjoyed TROS, but when she’s been on the View as a guest, I didn’t like the new louder, angrier Rosie. So when she was going to be the permanent moderator, I wasn’t too thrilled. Once she came on, though, I did mostly enjoy her again. I loved her energy and her obvious enjoyment for pop culture and trivia, and I loved her many references to her childhood TV shows, as we are close in age. I even liked the ‘fireworks’, for the most part. I also liked that she said what others wouldn’t, though it was inappropriate at times. But it made for good TV.
But she DID take over. Instead of “The View” it was now “Rosie’s View”. She even once said, “Welcome to the View, I am YOUR HOST, Rosie O’Donnell”. Sorry, it is an ensemble show. And I’m not a big fan of broadway numbers or confetti–at least there weren’t any Koosh balls or stupid audience games!
Of course, I’ve seen that the media has gone WAY over the top in the criticism of her and her views. I don’t get that either. But I’ve seen her blog, and the comments are what I would say beyond normal ‘fan’ reaction. I realize it is HER blog, so her fans are going there, but I still think the level of fanaticism was surprising. Not just “I love your work, Rosie” or some similar fan-type comments, but “I feel like you are the best friend I’ve never met” or “You are pure yellow” or whatever. Read the blog, if you don’t know what I mean. And yes, she will occasionally post the negative ones, but still, the level of “adoration” is surprising. Remember, we don’t KNOW her. But that is what I meant by her being treated like a ‘god’. Maybe not the right term…
Her mental health issues are not my opinion…she is very open about having PTSD (though I never knew you could suffer from Post Traumatic Stress for a trauma you did not experience yourself!), and is on meds for depression. I’m not a shrink, but based on my best friend who also has it, I would swear she is bi-polar, as well. High ups and Low downs. But I won’t argue that one. And she has been seeing a therapist for many, many years. I would think she should see a new one, if she still needs to see one for that long. It should be to help you over a tough time, not a ‘rest of your life’ kind of thing. Or maybe go back to see one as the need arises. But to see one weekly for years and years is unusual. Or at least she should have resolved some of her childhood issues that clearly still affect her life at 45! Also, she also is open about her co-dependency, so when I spoke of her being “mentally unhealthy”, I didn’t mean it as a judgment call, but rather based on what she is so very open about.
I realize this is very lengthy, but I didn’t want anyone to think I just came in here to stir the pot. As I said, I don’t hate her–shoot, I don’t even pretend to KNOW her. But I don’t know why she elicits such strong opinions, both positive AND negative, from people.
October 1st, 2007 at 3:54 pm
I’ve read Rosie’s blog, in fact she has responded to a few of my questions about politics.
I agree with her stance on the war, and I also like the fact that she isn’t afraid to take a stand.
I think the fans who write her and tell her she’s like their best friend are people who are in a lot of pain and are reaching out to her.
Just today someone wrote and told her they’re going to commit suicide.. Those type of messages are very disturbing. A lot of overweight women write in and talk about their husbands being verbally abusive.. It’s very sad.
October 1st, 2007 at 9:30 pm
“But I don’t know why she elicits such strong opinions, both positive AND negative, from people.”
My husband and I wonder the same thing Sophie. When you said you liked the fireworks for the most part that was often not even her doing but the different tv shows (or cohost). Everything she said was under a microscope and dissected and twisted into something ugly.
The media (mostly right wing and slimy entertainment shows) likes to portray her as crazy, using her depression against her. She can’t be “sane” when she’s on meds and in therapy she must be a raving lunatic.
While I don’t understand the “bond” some people feel they have with her (and I still don’t know what yellow means) I can only assume it’s because of how relatable she seems to be. She gives the impression that she can be anyone’s friend. Not every celeb gives that impression or opens themselves up like she does. She gives comfort to a lot of people in emotional pain. While it’s sad that people turn to a celebrity for that comfort it’s a good thing she’s there listening because she may be the only one there for that person.
October 1st, 2007 at 10:14 pm
My in-laws couldn’t stand Rosie. I asked them why and it was pretty much what you said Viva, the way she was portrayed on Faux News. I also think people weren’t use to a woman being so in your face.
Those same men who complained about her have the biggest mouths in the business. I don’t agree with all of her opinions, but she spoke up about the war, before any other woman did on TV and I respect her for doing that.
October 1st, 2007 at 10:35 pm
“When you said you liked the fireworks for the most part that was often not even her doing but the different tv shows (or cohost). Everything she said was under a microscope and dissected and twisted into something ugly.”
Actually, I’m referring to the “fireworks” I witnessed first-hand. I almost never watch those entertainment shows, and don’t think I’ve ever seen Fox News–at least, not on purpose. (I flip from channel to channel, and personally, I don’t see any real difference between MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News…).
Anyway, I am really referring to what Rosie said herself–not even the panel’s reaction. She called out Kirstie Alley for not losing as much weight as she claimed, she accused Kelly Ripa of being a homophobe (and outed Clay Aiken in the process–though no huge surprise there), and accused Oprah and Gail of being “a little gay”. And even the whole Donald Trump ‘feud’–I remember watching her doing the hair flip and calling him out as to why he shouldn’t be the moral compass, and I must say, I was shocked at what she was saying! Not at the content, per se, because I agreed with her, but it still was rather shocking that she said what she said! So she was a loose cannon on that show. If anyone said any of these things in private, so be it, but it wasn’t common for one celebrity to attack other celebrities on a national show!! THOSE are the fireworks I referred to.
And regardless of your political affiliation, her 9/11 conspiracy theories were pretty wild. I’ve watched Loose Change and also watched the one refuting it, and was left with some questions, yes. However, she would state things from Loose Change verbatim as if they were proven facts! And the source was highly suspect!
All in all, Rosie was entertaining to watch, and likeable (when her meds were right, I guess), but outrageous, too. And I watched as much, if not more, for those outrageous bits than anything! It was a case of “What will she say today??”
I look forward to reading her book for that same reason!

Rosie’s biggest mistake was coming in and thinking she could have the same freedom to say what she wants about current topics, politically or even about celebrities. The problem, is that Rosie’s actually famous unlike the other co-hosts (BW not included). Her opinions about other celebrities were automatically a feud, and newsworthy. How long has the show been on? I’ve heard Joy and Elisabeth both make harsh comments about other people that never got reported.

“Rosie’s biggest mistake was coming in and thinking she could have the same freedom to say what she wants about current topics, politically or even about celebrities.”
___________
I think you’re right, but I also think that the media went after her for doing something they failed to do…ask questions.

This has been a very interesting discussion & I’ve appreciated everyone’s maturity and comments. As Stephanie said, Joy makes no bones about her liberal, progressive views & the worst thing that seems to be said about her is that she is not talented or a has-been or something dismissive like that. I also tend to think, as rainlillie said, that Rosie was asking questions that no one else really wanted to — and a lot of the filth toward her had a “how dare she?” tone to it. I have a very healthy cynicism and skepticism about what the real is with celebrities, as I’m sure many people do. And I don’t fall in lockstep and agree with the ones I like or the ones I agree with politically. But I still think Rosie was brave to speak up and out where others didn’t want to tread. She didn’t follow the program, and people don’t like that. Too bad, in hindsite, she took on Trump, because that distracted from things & gave her enemies (isn’t that what they are, at this point? enemies? they act like she is an enemy) fodder for their “Rosie’s crazy” story line.

Excellent Analysis.

In Rosie’s subsequent videos, she gives a ’sneak peak’ and mini explanations about the book (why and what compelled her to write it). In those she seems MUCH more relaxed and at ease.
I’m purchasing a copy today. Can’t wait to read it.

Did anyone go to Rosie’s NYC book signing? I saw something briefly about it on The Insider and it didn’t look like they were trashing her.
