Rosie O’Donnell’s new book Celebrity Detox is now out in stores. Who has purchased the book? What are your thoughts? I haven’t read it yet, but will have a full recap of it at some point.
For those of you are reading it/have read it, feel free to comment on this post with your thoughts about the book.

Winnie you are awesome. You beat me to the punch. I had suggested this in another posting but you are obviously way ahead of the game. Thanks for this.
I will be picking a copy up just as soon as I can drag myself away from this computer.
I expect to be done by the end of this week, probably sooner and then offer my perspective.
Can’t wait to read everyones thoughts on the book!

I bought the book today and so far I LOVE IT. I have read afew sections of it, and I find ROSIE very honest and straight forward. Im sure it will be on Billo and Hannity shows tonite, along with John Gibson’s. They love attacking ROSIE. I was watching THE VIEW the day of the ROSIE/Elizabeth fight and ROSIE should have said, Elizabeth, this is a NO SPIN ZONE, Just answer the question. Just like Bill and Sean do with their guests.

I’m done reading the book.
My feelings about it are mixed. First, I think it’s important to read the book in context, in it’s entirety. The leaked exerpts IMO painted the book out to be much more feudal than it really was. Sure there were some mentions of Donald and Elisabeth and Joy and Barb. But written the way it was did not come off as catty or hateful. With Barb, I felt Rosie really respects and looks up to her - even now. The part about Elisabeth was complimentary and I thought painted her as a strong warrior. I think I expected much more combat or further explanation about the two in how they got along, but I did not see that.
My cons about the book was I did not feel it went enough in depth. I would have loved to read more about backstage after Rosies final show, what was said, how Rosie felt, who said what. I also wanted to hear more about ‘celebrity-ism’; the ins and outs, ups, downs.
My surprises in reading:
Rosie felt Barb DID say the things Trump accused her of.
Also, the way it was portrayed that Rosie felt Barb should give up her job was not actually as bad as when you read the book in context. Again, I think Rosie has great admiration and respect for BarbW. But she is right - Barb is NOT an entertainer.
The book was smaller than I thought it would be, so I suppose I should not have expected too much indepth inside info. What I felt was Rosie’s pain and anguish and how she is still struggling behind the death of her mom.
It was a good read and I could not put it down. Glad I read it.

I enjoyed your synopsis & critique, Stacee. Thanks. I won’t get to read it just yet.
In Rosie’s Q&A section of her blog she has never sounded nasty at all, that I can recall, when her fans have written her, out of loyalty, to bad-mouth Babs. And I don’t remember her saying anything bad about EH in the Q&A’s, either. So it sounds like this book reinforces that.
Do you think the critics of Rosie are just mouthing manufactured outrage over what’s in the book … or is there anything that Babs or anyone else would legitimately have reason to be annoyed about?
I wonder if Rosie’s critics ever mention that most or all proceeds go to her children’s charity.

I do feel it was manufactured outrage. A way to feed into the idea that Rosie is a mad monster who is chomping on sour grapes.
What I took away from the book was her struggles and feeling re-entering the celebrity dome. And also her experiences with the View. I can’t really see what BarbW would be so upset about. The book truly paints her moreso in a positive light. You could tell Rosie was in awe of her, revered her, even sought her approval. The ONLY thing I can say was *maybe* not so great was Rosie believing Donald’s account of Barb talking bad about Rosie. That’s really it. But the way Rosie explained was she did not think Barb should have been bought into the feud, at least not in that way. I must agree. Donald seemed to want to drive a wedge between them - and did it publicly.
To me, Barb came off as a fake and phoney. Cold even.
Rosie seemed to connect (or want to connect) to Barb because Rosie’s mom really admired her. I think thats why Rosie will always have that type of caring for her.
This was - of course - my impression after reading. I am interested to see what others gleaned from it.

Rosie’s site has an excerpt from the book if anyone wants to check it out. I’m really looking forward to reading the whole thing.
I always felt like Barbara had in fact said those things she was accused of. Why would she say those things though?

BW has always had a backstabbing rep in the industry. Harry Reasoner, Diane Sawyer, Star and Rosie. The list is probably a lot longer but it has yet to come out in the public. Roger Friedman noted it in his column when this whole fracas started. Someday, someone will write a Kitty Kelly tome about her and her scratch to the top.

I’ve never really trusted BW either. I think she’s only interested in covering her own a$$. I always thought she was overrated and I can’t stand the way she name drops.

rainlillie: Babs may be all the things you said; I wouldn’t be surprised one way or another. But I can’t forget that in the early days she was one of the first to show that women in the media didn’t have to talk about housework and clothes. She probably did claw her way, but men have clawed too, and aren’t criticized for it. I’ll always admire her for those early contributions. At the same time I have no problem ever believing backstabbing, etc., about her or most celebs.
Stacee: Fox “News”’s website has the transcript of a segment Neal Cavuto did where he lumped in Rosie with Al Greenspan as examples of 2 authors who write books that trash people in order to sell copies. He makes it sound like her book just trashes one after another. I didn’t get that sense from what you wrote. Since it’s such a short read, surely he would have read it before doing his piece?
I was hoping to find any news at all about Rosie’s book signing in NYC & her art exhibition — just coverage of the events. But I’ve found nothing at all. Is that because nothing controversial happened? In trying to find coverage online, I ran across Cavuto’s sophomoric piece.

Peaches, I just don’t understand where their ‘trashing other people’ idea is coming from. I truly did not read that in this book. Maybe because I could understand where she is coming from, I don’t know. I felt her hurt and pain in what she discussed. She did express strong feelings as it related to the DT feud. But even that was not terribly ‘knock down’, at least what I got from reading it.
I would assume they read the book. At least I hope they did. Maybe they pick and choose certain sections and based the entire book around that. I really don’t know.

Peaches,
Who is Cavuto kidding, Ann Coulter is the queen of trashy books. I wonder why he didn’t mention her?
October 11th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
True … and his definition of “trashing” people is laughable. He makes Greenspan come across as Perez Hilton.
The inability of grown-ups on Fox to even contemplate anything that criticizes this administration goes beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I think they must be appealing to a very young, naive audience.
