Rosie reflects on Emmy night and the other View ladies present
While waiting patiently for The View-related moments to happen on The Daytime Emmy Awards, I checked Rosie O’Donnell’s blog and saw she had posted a new video. The video titled “Emmy night” it is an assortment of photographs from Rosie’s time on The View. I imagine these were her favorite moments and guests during her brief tenure on the show. There are some touching photos, as well as some that made me laugh as I remembered the particular segment (like when Elisabeth and Rosie made Easter eggs).
The video made me a little sad, because I remembered how many great times there were with Rosie and how many laughs all of the women had together before it all turned so ugly. Check out the video here. It is definitely worth your time.
Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck presented a clip on the Daytime Emmys which showed the awards given the night before in several categories. When they first came onto the stage, Barbara pretended that they had won and started giving a fake acceptance speech. Elisabeth said “We didn’t win!” Joy said, “Everyone said we were going to win, but we didn’t.” Elisabeth said, “Maybe next year” and Joy said that to win they would have to kill Ellen DeGeneres.

SO disappointed The View lost! I fear it’s true what Lottie said about how if it didn’t win THIS year, it probably never will. My main reason for wanting it to win was for the message it’d send to the suits at ABC & the rest of the media–that they shouldn’t shy away from unpredictable, “controversial” discussions of current events. Because you know the bottom line behind their decision making is $$. It’s kind of a sweet justice that Ellen won–though I would have preferred The View!–because it wasn’t all that long ago, when she came out of the closet, that she was ripped apart by right-wing homophobes. Remember when they called her “Ellen Degenerate”? She took a beating; it was brutal. This year’s Daytime Emmies were probably the only time ever these folks were happy that she won something—since that, of course, meant that The View with Rosie did not win. So, that was a silver lining, and her comments about the contribution Rosie had made were great.
Winnie, you’re right about that “View” video Rosie put up on her blog: It is wonderful. It made me teary to watch it along with that beautiful Cyndi Lauper song “I’ll Be Your River” in the background. It reminded me how often I had thought that she and Elisabeth did get along in many ways. Questions for Winnie or anyone who’s seen this video (and I highly recommend it): Toward the very end, are the two little blond girls Rosie’s daughter & Elisabeth’s? Also, at end, when it shows Rosie in the background, back to the wall of an open elevator? (and what looks like the back of Babs’s & Joy’s heads, walking toward her, with a bunch of other people)—do you think that was from the final day that Rosie was on the show? And, did you notice Babs’s infamous black shoes in the final image–the one of her & Rosie sitting on The View’s table? Same shoes she was wearing in one of the pics you posted from the day she got her star on the walk of fame? They must be very comfy!

That video is great! You can see how bright and hopeful the season began. It’s interesting that Rosie looked trim and fit last September, while in the end she just looked fed up and tired. I think the photo of Rosie in the elevator pre-dates the last show. It’s really symbolic that she was facing in the opposite direction to the other ladies. And Barbara’s infamous shoes actually looked right with her black outfit in that last photo!

I’m guessing that the shoes probably serve an orthopedic function. I couldn’t see Babs teetering on 4 inch Manolos.
